Is this a thing with young women these days?

Couldn't find the correct board and this one looked interesting!!
I've noticed lately that women like to ask men that they have no romantic link to, to get them to do things for them, and wondered if it's ' a thing'
One 25 yr old at work was sitting next to a man, and she just said, 'can you get me some tissues from the kitchen, my eye is watering.' And he just went and got them. She was perfectly capable. Other things have been getting a man to lace up her shoes, another man to put her hair up and she got another to - wait for it, pick something out of her teeth. Seriously.
Maybe it's just her? Why though? If it was a man doing this there would be red flags all over.
She has a boyfriend and said if he ever cheated on her he'd be out. Maybe she's flirting??

Why do you think this isn’t just her?
It’s just her way of flirting I guess. Who cares really? If she wants to ask them ( and risk being thought inappropriate by co workers) and they want to do it that’s on them

JacquelineCarlyle · 22/09/2021 11:35

She sounds hilarious - why do someone for yourself if you can find someone else to do it for you! Sounds the height of laziness for that person rather than anything else as I know plenty of young people and none behave that way!

*Something for yourself!

This board is for people who are fed up with MN and want to flounce off in a strop!

LateDecemberBackInLowB12 · 22/09/2021 11:38

That's exactly how I flirt.

"Hey sexy, could you please pick this piece of steak out my teeth for me"

😂😂😂

These are all very odd things to ask a colleague to do. I don’t think it’s a thing among young women though, I think this woman is being weird.

Donutdisaster · 22/09/2021 11:49

It's not a thing though, as her mate has now picked it up! Can you pick up a meal deal for me etc

growinggreyer · 22/09/2021 11:49

I think she is just testing out her 'power' over men. I know I did it as a young and attractive woman. Men don't rush to help me now I am fatter and greyer, but some still offer so I let them! Why not, it's just a way of making human contact.

If you don't like my post, you can flounce off can't you?

I just thought it was completely double standards because if her bloke did it she would dump him (as she said she would)

OP posts:
growinggreyer · 22/09/2021 11:55

How would she even know if her bloke is doing this, though? I am sure he does sometimes do favours for young women that he meets eg in the supermarket or at work. He wouldn't go home and explain that he spent two minutes of his time getting a jar from the top shelf for someone who batted their eyelashes at him, would he?

growinggreyer · 22/09/2021 11:58

Recent examples from my life include - a man helped me reverse out of a parking space and even offered to move the vehicle for me but I was ok with him watching me. Another man helped me when I was litter-picking and was a bit scared to go into a field so he came with me!

Donutdisaster · 22/09/2021 12:13

@growinggreyer but they are not intimate 'helps' are they? Would you ask a man to do your hair, pick your teeth!

OP posts:
JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 22/09/2021 12:16

Did they, aye? Hmm

HebeMumsnet · 22/09/2021 12:23

Afternoon, OP. We've moved this over to Chat. We don't want any of the flouncers tripping over it.

SirenSays · 22/09/2021 12:51

She actually gets men to pick things out of her teeth? Who are these men who can do hair better than her? It took about half an hour for my DH to help me put my hair in a messy bun when I dislocated my shoulder!

AndTime · 22/09/2021 13:27

Is it some kind of bet she has going with a mate, what's the weirdest thing a man will do for me?

Is she very attractive?

Chikapu · 22/09/2021 13:29

I'm fairly certain that's just a her thing. More fool the blokes picking stuff out of her teeth.

PattyPan · 22/09/2021 13:45

Sounds like a her thing to me - as a normal young person I think asking someone to pick something out of your teeth is super weird!

MrsRobbieHart · 22/09/2021 13:48

Why on earth would this be anything to do with young women? Confused

VladmirsPoutine · 22/09/2021 14:08

Sure.

ApolloandDaphne · 22/09/2021 14:27

@Donutdisaster I really wasn't bothered where you posted I was just telling you what the board was for as you didn't seem to know. I see MNHQ have moved it now anyway.

Donutdisaster · 22/09/2021 14:50

She's not unattractive, but she's young and these men can't say no. Don't think there's a bet going but there's lots of men here at the warehouse

Because I'm in my 40s and never ever seen anything like it before.
