Why are doctors so bothered about other people's contraception choices?

This is a request for medical professionals to stop raising their eyebrows and looking at their patients as if they're weird.

First of all I've had a very shit, stressful day full of medical upset that's been going on for years, so please take this rant within the wider context of me having a generally shit day.

Why are doctors and sexual health workers so bothered? Are they on commission or something?

I've been with my DH for over ten years. We still use condoms. It works for us. We buy them with our own money and don't get them free from the NHS. I am well aware of other options such as contraceptive pills, injections, coils etc. I am also not interested. We will choose the method that suits us best and it's frankly not your business to start asking me questions like "Are you happy with that?" Yes I'm fucking happy with that. If I wasn't, I would've asked for something else long ago. Just give it a rest and stop questioning people's choices.

Great, still wouldn’t have one anywhere near me.

That’s fine. That’s your decision. Millions of women love them. You were offered a good effective treatment. You chose not to take it. It’s called informed treatment

I have never been spoken to like that by any HCP and would have told them I’m not interested in discussing my contraceptive method with them unless I bring it up myself, thank you very much.

Bit if a segway, but im 30 and I have literally never been asked by a doctor or nurse what contraception I use, and I usually have to go to the GP about 3 times a year or so.

All I can think is that they assume for some reason that I can't possible be having Sex. I must give off an air of robust celibacy! I dont know wether to feel offended or relieved!

Also, people that say they and their long term partner use condoms, usually don't all the time for one reason or another...

I use condoms with my partner of 5 years, and guess what, we do indeed use them every single time we have sex (apart from a few times when I tried a caya diaphragm) and use them correctly. This despite the fact that I am perimenopausal and have only had 2 periods in the past 18 months. I am not stupid and am aware that as I am under 50 I need to use contraception until 2 years after my last period as there is still a risk of pregnancy. Just because some people claim to use condoms, then fail to use them every time, doesn't mean most or lots of us fail to use them.
