Will the free Waitrose coffee ever come back?

Because I miss it. The machine in our local store has had the "out of order for maintenance" sign on it since March 2020.

And yeah, I know, first world problems and all that.

Nah. One of those things to disappear forever ‘because covid’

BarbaraofSeville · 21/09/2021 15:46

Another coffee related thing that seems to have disappeared is the push for reusable cups.

We seem to have gone back to single use ones, or at least in my limited experience.

Last time I tried to get coffee in my reusable cup, the server was quite rude in their refusal so I haven't tried again.

Our local WR has had a make over. The cafe has reopened with new seating areas which are more separate than before, but as for the two in store coffee machines - one has disappeared and the other has a sign saying it is not in use. So probably never........ :(

I hope so!

Oldraver · 21/09/2021 16:00

Hopefully not. Twits trying to steer a trolley with a cup of coffee in one hand are a nightmare

MarmaladeMakers · 21/09/2021 16:56

If they do return I hope they ban walking round the shop with a cup. Bloody pain in the arse for everyone else trying to avoid them holding one whilsts trying to load / unload their shopping
No one is that busy

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 17/10/2022 10:49

It's back! Free with purchase if you bring a reusable (lidded) cup.

converseandjeans · 17/10/2022 10:50

Saw in the news yesterday that it's coming back soon.

bigbushes · 17/10/2022 13:44

my dd worked in waitrose for quite a few years as a student. Her hatred fir the coffee people knows no bounds!! From spilling it on people to complaining about the quality ( considering it's free!!)
Lots of people who never bought a thing but just came fir the free coffee.
Still i'd look forward to its return!!

qpmz · 17/10/2022 13:48

People only came for the free coffee rather than to shop so I don't think it's profitable.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 17/10/2022 13:51

Free coffee, very expensive everything else.

Good, back on the 7th November across all stores. I haven’t really shopped in Waitrose at all in the last couple of years but shall start going again regularly. For me the offer of a complimentary latte was enough to tip the balance over other retailers when deciding where to shop.

gogohmm · 17/10/2022 14:40

I must admit it persuaded me into the store - I tend to pick up each days dinner at lunchtime and a sandwich, I'm not price sensitive particularly though. Currently I shop in lidl which has a rather nice new fresh orange squeezing machine

user53852098 · 17/10/2022 14:42

Better dig out my cup from my car boot and give it a run through the dishwasher then

Well to be fair, I wouldn't want the nozzle in someone else's possibly dirty cup.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 17/10/2022 14:50

Is it back? I'll put my cup in the car again then!

It's steaming, literally, hottest water you are going to come into contact with. Nothing will live in it.

NormalForNuneaton · 17/10/2022 14:52

Yes, as someone else said it's back soon.

Not only that but they're teaming up with Caffe Nero for the beans so hopefully it should be good.

TheDouglasChater · 17/10/2022 14:53

Now if only M&S would follow suit with their free biscuit in the cafe!

AceofPentacles · 17/10/2022 14:54

I was told how seldom they clean the machines, and tbf I have had the shits a lot less since not drinking it!

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 17/10/2022 14:56

TBF that's just the coffee! It has that effect on many people

DogsAkimbo · 17/10/2022 14:57

The nozzle goes in the milk jug in a coffee shop and it doesn’t touch the cup / sit in the liquid in the Waitrose type machines?

MatildaMonroe · 17/10/2022 15:05

Christ my pet hate . No-one is that desperate to walk round a supermarket with a coffee surely?
It's the shoppers equivalent of walking round talking on your mobile in the 90s, you look sad

You do realise that you don't have to drink it in the shop don't you?!

In the past I've taken a coffee back to work with me, sat in the car and drunk it or even on a nearby bench enjoying the sun and watching the world go by.

2X4B523P · 17/10/2022 15:26

@MatildaMonroe

Don’t think many people were drinking whilst shopping, and couldn’t when they changed it to having to make a purchase first. I’ve always enjoyed mine on the drive home. (Whilst stationary at traffic lights I might add, and there’s plenty of lights in my town!)
