Anyone fancy joining me for Ocsober?

If so, we could make this into a support thread and maybe list ideas for non alcoholic drinks, good films and tv programmes to watch etc.

Sorry I haven't checked in for a couple of days... had various family dramas going on!
Not finding it too difficult so far... it seems to come in waves for me, the desire for alcohol. Am OK at the moment, but may be craving tomorrow!

Anyway, got my Becks Blue in the fridge for tonight so am looking forward to that.

Stay strong - and dry - everyone!

IWanderedLonely · 04/10/2021 14:34

He's fine now Zednotzee thanks. Just an upset stomach.
I 'm already worrying about tonight. We go to a club on Monday evenings - no drinking there but always pick up a bottle on the way home. Decided to leave my purse at home & tell DH not to take any money/debit card (if I ask him to buy me wine he never says no).

FanGirlX · 04/10/2021 16:19

We are already 10% of the way there...

I was lurking and I'm on day 4!!

I usually drink 5 bottles a week but waking up with palpitations and having to get into work at 6 am was getting to me.

Im ok until the evening. What do you do to unwind

Belindabelle · 04/10/2021 17:10

To unwind I will be taking long baths, maybe going for a quick evening walk. I also intend to do some cooking, dig out the old recipe books and try some new things.

Also going to try and get back into reading and watching classic films. My attention span is crap lately and I just can’t seem to ‘get in ‘ to things like I used to.

FanGirlX · 04/10/2021 17:23

I'm planning on tidying out 1 drawer or cupboard every night.

I've also got a pile of books to read. I seem to struggle to get stuck in to them these days and I think it's a mix of alcohol and concentration and faffing about on social media and concentration.

I've just finished Back to Life on iPlayer, it's a sweet comedy. S1 and S2 are on there. I noticed Happy Valley and The Fall are back on iPlayer too - both are gritty police dramas, very well acted though, if gritty police dramas are your thing.

My plan is to watch The Crown in October though.

Afternoon all,

I just tried a kombucha! Yummy stuff and could definitely sink a few of those of an evening!

I read my first whole book in 48 hours over the weekend. Left my phone downstairs and got stuck in. It's devices and is being 'connected' 24/7, it's dreadful for us I'm sure.

I'm going to carry on leaving my phone downstairs when I go to bed as it 100% results in an earlier bedtime for me.

Day 5 tomorrow everyone! Day 7 is when we start to get the energy!

ZednotZee · 04/10/2021 18:38

@FanGirlX 10% of the way there sounds really positive, I'm going to start cou ting it down in percentages now I think!

Well I'm worried about tonight too @IWanderedLonely I have been at work all day and will finish at 8pm, these twelve hour shifts seem to see me making a beeline for the fridge and the wine when I get home.
Tonight it will be a chilled pellegrino with a slice of lime just so I have a drink to hand.

I don't have any more energy either just yet, really looking forward to the seven day milestone. I haven't been dry for seven days this side of Christmas Blush

Hello everyone
I'm late to the party, but here I am ... I started on Sunday

Well, Facebook, messenger, Insta and WhatsApp are all down. No excuse not to read a book!

I think I'll go to bed! I found a huge trove of Fake or Fortune on YouTube last night which made me very happy

IWanderedLonely · 04/10/2021 21:43

Zednotzee the habits are so hard to break in the beginning. I'm home now eating toast & drinking a Becks blue. I did think for a minute of grabbing my purse and popping back out for a bottle. The wine witch can be very persuasive.
58user1514310137 I knpw what you mean - sometimes I just want to scream "But how? How do you do it?"
So far this time I've been reading anything from Sober authors. I already have a few books from previous attempts and have followed a few on Instagram.
Becks blue 0% helps (even though I normally drink wine not beer). Good luck.

Day 5 for me!! Had a Vit b shot on Saturday but still no energy!! I slept most of the day yesterday

Im trying to think of reasons why giving up is a good thing

  1. Feel better in the mornings
  2. Might lose that stubborn stone
  3. Look healthier
4 No showing myself up at work functions 5 Better relationships with my kids - no fuzzy head!

Anything else?

DotCottonsFag · 05/10/2021 06:31

Got myself a name!!

FanGirlX · 05/10/2021 08:28

Morning all, hope everyone is well today.

My friend gave me a couple of Dragonfly teas - Night Sky Calm. I had 2 of them plus 1 chamomile and I had the best sleep I've had for ages.

Day 5 here, still waiting for a good night's sleep.

This is a good one. I think it might be motivational to think about what we're going to spend the saved £ on.

goldpendant · 05/10/2021 09:03

Day 5! Congrats everyone! I've not been dry for 5 days since January!

All my saved ££ is going to Macmillan. Mum just been diagnosed with breast cancer, so I'm doubly motivated by that too.

I certainly feel a lot brighter in the mornings and so much calmer with kids.

I'm starting to remember why I don't like drinking for all the positives, rather than the negatives (eg calmness rather than hangovers).

ZednotZee · 05/10/2021 20:39

Evening everybody,

How are you all doing?
I have to admit I almost caved in earlier due to my impending period and general arsey behaviour from each and every child this evening Angry

I have resisted because I told myself how pathetic of me to not be able to go even five days without a glass of bloody wine! Have settled for some chocolate instead.

Hope everybody is having an easier time resisting than I am.

ZednotZee · 05/10/2021 20:41

@goldpendant Gosh how bloody rude of me!

Sorry, I really hope that your mum has a swift recovery and breezes through her treatment. I'm donating to macmillan too, a very worthy cause.

IWanderedLonely · 05/10/2021 21:27

I've struggled again. I am more dependent than I thought. I have distracted myself by wrapping the first Christmas presents Hmm

ZednotZee · 05/10/2021 22:15

Me too @IWanderedLonely but feeling proud to have resisted tonight.
I'm impressed you have started Christmas shopping, never mind wrapping! I'm envious of your organisation skills.
I'm usually ordering the last toys on the 23rd December Confused
Maybe I'll get a head start on it this month as a distraction.

Onwards to day 6 with us

goldpendant · 06/10/2021 08:30

Thanks @ZednotZee - it's early stage, she should be fine!

Day 6! I feel the energy! Starting my morning with a hot water/lemon infusion is helping too.

LowbrowVictoriana · 06/10/2021 08:42

Day 6 and feeling good! Glad I'm doing this now. DH is drinking a bit less too now I'm not joining him.
Might even get back into exercising this month!
