Anyone fancy joining me for Ocsober?

If so, we could make this into a support thread and maybe list ideas for non alcoholic drinks, good films and tv programmes to watch etc.

Morning all, I'm raising a large coffee for us all to a sober October 😄

@Justbecauseofit

Happy October everyone!

We ended up in the pub last night Grin me and my DP had a lovely bonding night, after a bad week, we both needed it and it was a lovely last drink for a while.

Just a question, we can put wine in our food right? Hmm

I think wine in food is ok. For me it's about breaking the habit of a couple of G&Ts every night, or reaching fir a drink if I've had a bad day at work.

@goldpendant

Here we go! Good luck everyone. I'm on a detox retreat this weekend which should really help with the mindset. It's a digital detox too so I'll check in again on Sunday night!
Ah, I detox should set you up nicely for the month.

Here we go! I had a good three glasses of wine last night as a sort of fateful (well, it was winking at me from the fridge!) and am looking forward to a healthy month ahead. Have planned a big walk and am trying to implement other new healthy practices into my life, too.

After dinner I’ll have a decaf coffee then a Fever Tree light Mediterranean tonic 🙂

Stay strong, everyone.

*farewell

I polished off my gin last night, I thought it would be best not to have any alcohol in the house. It was 3/4 units.

I also calculated how much I drink in a week, I think I'm on about 25 units and rarely have a night off. Although I'm never stumbling around drunk, it's quite a bit higher than the NHS recommended amount of 14 units a week with at least 2 AF days per week.

I really think Ocsober will do me the world of good and I'm quite excited about what I can get done instead of slumping on the sofa with a G&T or two every night.

This is quite a timely article for us all. It just popped up on FB.

Hi, I'm going to be joining you all, I have signed up to October with macmillan which is a cause close to my heart in any case.

My drinking has spiralled during covid I don't mind admitting this. I've been working as a nursing home matron throughout the last eighteen months which has been a reason/excuse for really quite heavy amounts of drinking. Sometimes a bottle of wine a night Blush without many nights alcohol free in succession.

Obviously as a nurse I am aware of the health risks and now in my late thirties I know I need to rein it in.
I start a new job this month which will involve a lot of driving so I really need to moderate or stop drinking altogether.
Hopefully this thread will keep me accountable.

Best of luck to us all Smile

ThePenIsBlue · 01/10/2021 16:58

I’m going to join! I did dry January this year and then kept going for 2 more weeks. Thought I had changed my relationship with booze, but once I started again it’s crept up and up. I need another reset. I know the first 2 weeks will be hard, but just need to push through! Starting tomorrow 😆😆😆

FrasierCraneDay · 01/10/2021 17:18

Good luck everyone Smile
No alcohol in the house at all so will be enjoying some nice soft drinks and having an early night.

FanGirlX · 01/10/2021 20:04

Evening all. I'm sitting here eating pizzas at my mum's and drinking sparkling elderflower. Not feeling too deprived so far.

5BlackDoors · 01/10/2021 20:09

I will join!

day 1 today. I drank orange juice and lemonade. I was also knackered and in bed at 7.30! I am desperate for a good sleep.

Off to catch up on the thread.... :)

phonicscloud · 01/10/2021 20:20

I'm in and joining you. Never made it for a full month before but feeling determined!

ZednotZee · 01/10/2021 20:47

@FanGirlX

I do love an elderflower cordial, will pick some up when I next see some. I'm drinking rose flavoured tea and watching 'how to train your dragon ' with the DC.
I will be collecting DD12 from guides at 9pmand usually I would be looking forward to a chardonnay right now.
I'm not missing it, but I am aware this is only day one so not expecting to want a drink til Sunday, but I will resist. I already have donations on my go sober page on FB and determined not to let my sponsors down!

FanGirlX · 01/10/2021 21:03

I've moved on to the Pukka bedtime tea, quite liking it. Just put DD to bed and I'm going to snuggle up in bed and read with my tea. We've got an early start in the morning - nature walk and then in the afternoon DD is going to play with her best friend (a Labrador) which she's excited about. Not sure about tomorrow night but hoping we'll be tired. I've done dry months before and I've found planning food an non alcoholic drinks helps, as does planning films, books etc. Support threads like this are also good if temptation hits.

Hope everyone is feeling well, relaxed and not tempted!
DH has put some lovely wine in the fridge. I'm going to have to watch him drink it tonight 😡

ZednotZee · 01/10/2021 21:33

I'm really looking forward to getting a few decent books on the go. I can't concentrate on a plot after even a large glass of wine so its really fell by the wayside during covid.
Any recommendations gratefully received.

@LowbrowVictoriana stay strong you will be fresh as a daisy in the morning and wont regret not joining him.

IWanderedLonely · 01/10/2021 21:51

Day 1 done. Bedtime tea and sorting washing.

Oh god, it's so much easier to do it if you can get partner on board / don't live with anyone who is drinking. Good luck!

Same here. I'm going to go through my book pile next week and pick out 4/5 to read over the month.

Day 1 complete Smile Very surprised I haven't felt deprived of anything. Had an ice cold tonic water with lemon and it felt like a treat. Looking forward to feeling fresh in the morning and hope I can really tell the difference.

FanGirlX · 01/10/2021 22:50

Night everyone, well done on day! I'm dozing off now which tells me what I know already - I don't actually need gin to fall asleep.

OP posts:
5BlackDoors · 02/10/2021 07:46

Good morning! I was up for a bit in the night (a sick dog who needs to go out alot) but feel quite perky this morning. It's a one cup of coffee morning. :)

I do not have any sponsors for Sober October but am planning on putting aside the money I would have spent on alcohol then making a donation.

Hope everyone has a good day.

FanGirlX · 02/10/2021 08:19

Morning all, can't say I'm feeling fresh but I'm only just starting my coffee. That said I think I got a good 9 hours sleep.
