Anyone fancy joining me for Ocsober?

If so, we could make this into a support thread and maybe list ideas for non alcoholic drinks, good films and tv programmes to watch etc.

@ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts

Please can I join? I’ve started tracking my drinking on the Sober app and I’ve had a drink 16 days this month up to now Blush
Welcome!

Sorry for your loss and you are welcome here.

It's easily done. I started drinking every night when my dad died and it easily creeps up on you.

I like lemon & ginger tea - not tried Clipper version, I'll try some.
I also have some Pukka night time chai latte which is gorgeous. I don't have it often ad it means quite a few calories before bedtime - stupid thinking as rhat thought nevet stops me drinking wineHmm

FanGirlX · 28/09/2021 08:17

I went shopping last night and now feel prepared, I have:

Elderflower cordial
Lime and mint cordial
8 big bottles of sparkling water
Lemons and limes
Clipper lemon and ginger
Pukka bedtime tea (I couldn't see the Clipper version)

Couldn't find Kombucha- is it usually in the soft drink aisle?

@IWanderedLonely

The Clipper lemon and ginger has a good gingery bite (if that's the right word Smile).

@ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts

The Sober app sounds like a good idea too.

I'm in!

Had a couple of days beginning of the month (by accident) and it was easier than I thought. I've been drinking mainly every day/week since lockdown so def need a month off.

Hopefully shed a few lbs before Christmas too!

It scary how easily a few drinks per night becomes a habit.

@FanGirlX yep, it's crept up on us. We tried to stop the beginning of the year and it was so easy to make an excuse as to 'just have one tonight'.

My health has become much better recently though and it's encouraging me. I'm excited for this with you all!

Morning all, not long to go now.

I'll be on here on Friday and Saturday night (danger zones for me) to chat to anyone who is around and abstaining too.

OP posts:
LowbrowVictoriana · 29/09/2021 11:26

It's a bit unfortunate that day one is a Friday! But hey ho, we can do this.

Thanks for starting this thread @FanGirlX I had been planning a dry spell round about now, but not getting around to it. Saw the thread and thought I had no excuse not to!
Will try to abstain from crisps, too Smile

FanGirlX · 29/09/2021 12:59

I'm considering taking DD to my mum's on Friday after work. DM doesn't really drink, so I won't either.

My partner is on board now!

I mentioned it to him last week and he said to me this morning ' I'll be having a last drink tonight, it's October tomorrow!'

I didnt think he was listening 😂

We haven't done it for a while but we used to give up one thing for a month at a time and we stuck to it pretty good. Plastic bottles was a good one we cut our recycling out by loads. We've done chocolate, crisps, lie ins, fizzy pop, soy products, McDonald's hash browns and social media to name a few.

Redburnett · 30/09/2021 09:17

Count me in.

Mmm, MaccyD's hash browns and sausage McMuffins. You are a stronger person than me!

The only alcohol I have in the house is the remnants of a bottle of gin. There's about 3, max 4, units in the bottom. I'm undecided whether I should finish it off tonight in the bath or tip it away. I'll decide later.

Here we go! Good luck everyone. I'm on a detox retreat this weekend which should really help with the mindset. It's a digital detox too so I'll check in again on Sunday night!

IWanderedLonely · 01/10/2021 07:47

goldpendant a detox retreat sounds wonderful. Ibought lemon & mint presse from morrisons last night.
Feeling enthusiastic about it now.

Justbecauseofit · 01/10/2021 08:38

Happy October everyone!

We ended up in the pub last night Grin me and my DP had a lovely bonding night, after a bad week, we both needed it and it was a lovely last drink for a while.

Just a question, we can put wine in our food right? Hmm
