Is there any way to smuggle alcohol into a cinema

The cinemas in my local city doesn't serve alcoholic drinks. I'm not an alcoholic by the way.

I was waiting for the James bond movie for a long time but covid came and it didn't come out. Its been a long year filled with so much shit. I'm not an alcoholic by the way. I do practice drink safety. I don't drink to get drunk. I would like to have some drinks when I go to the cinema. I want to pack my handbag with a bottle with me in my handbag. I want to enjoy some drinks while watching the movie to relax and unwind. I won't be falling out the door drunk.

Last time I was in the cinema my bag was checked or my handbag was taken off me.

One of the last times I went to the cinema pre-COVID, me and my friend watched someone take an entire unopened pack of untoasted crumpets out of their bag, plus a big two litre bottle of drink and cups.

I love a nice, buttery crumpet - when it's toasted. Not when it's cold, untoasted and all rubbery. We were fascinated by the sight of Crumpet Man munching his way through the whole pack during the film.

Getting in a small drink of any description would be a non-issue in my local cinema. Mind you, my local cinema also sells wine and alcohol. Apparently. cough

Martyitsyourkids · 20/09/2021 21:48

Never ever had my bag checked. As well as half of the sweets & crisps aisle if B&M, Dh takes couple cans of G&T in, I take couple mini bottles of red wine in...and a wine glass 😆just pour it out when the light go down. V. Enjoyable. Only thing is I can't make it through to the end without needing a wee then 🤦‍♀️ rarely go to the cinema without the kids (don't take alcohol then) so nice treat when we do.

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 20/09/2021 21:48

Terrible judgey people on here!

To the PP who said what chains serve alcohol @Gwenhwyfar (?) my local Odeon does, and if I go to watch a film I will buy a mini bottle of wine and DH will get a beer.

Very civilised and nice.

To be fair the op does seem to be repeating herself a bit snd does say she had her handbag taken off her.

I dunno, if I wanted to smuggle some wine into the cinema I’d say fancy some wine, how do I smuggle it in, it wouldn’t occur to me to point out twice I wasn’t an alkie. But I’ve not had my bag searched and my shopping and handbag taken.

notangelinajolie · 20/09/2021 22:05

I think you are going to the wrong cinema. Ours has a full food and drink menu served to your cinema seat Wine Smile

postingfortraffichere · 20/09/2021 22:33

@ftw163532

I dunno, if you are that desperate to have alcohol at the cinema it sounds pretty problematic. No matter how many times you declare you don't have a drink problem.
Exactly this
Thatsplentyjack · 21/09/2021 06:26

Confess! Confess your sins OP! Jack will forgive you if you throw yourself upon their mercy

You been on whatever the OPs on @Whitedressparis? Sounds like it 🤣. At no point was I judging, just wondering considering the ramblings if the OP

Talipesmum · 21/09/2021 06:53

@InnPain

I think it’s disgusting how so many people are giving ideas to OP on how to best snuggle alcohol in. If the cinema has a no alcohol policy then adhere to it or don’t go?

I bet it would be a whole different thread if someone came on ranting about how a person drinking in the cinema ruined their movie!

That’s what’s annoying about ours. They are fine for you to have alcohol, but only if it is theirs, bought in the cinema. And it’s nasty mini bottles of blossom hill if you’re buying wine. But they let you bring in food or soft drinks from outside, even though they sell those too. So it’s inconsistent.
Frazzledd · 21/09/2021 07:05

This thread is so outing! After reading a gazillion 'I don't touch the stuff, tea for me!' posts on MN recently it's seems most of you are vino Pirates! 🍷 ☠

cricketmum84 · 21/09/2021 07:13

2 tins of G&T in your bag.

P.s don't tell anyone on MN as you are instantly labelled a raging alcoholic if you even utter the G word Gin

Polkadots2021 · 21/09/2021 08:01

@Battlingongraciously

Is this a joke OP? How totally sad. You want AA, not the cinema.
Are you serious?! Grin

Poor OP wants to relax with a film and a drink. Isn't Mumsnet literally characterised by 'a glass of white wine in front of the tele' every night?

Seems that if you do it in your front room it's fine, but according to the fun police, if you try to do it with a bit of James Bond on the big screen you're suddenly a raging alcoholic. Bunch of nutters Grin

Whitedressparis · 21/09/2021 08:09

@Thatsplentyjack

Careful now, repeatedly asking other people if they are drunk might start to look a little “the lady doth protest too much”Grin

Hoppinggreen · 21/09/2021 08:21

I’m not saying OP does have an issue but I do find the idea that you need alcohol to relax or to enjoy a film a bit strange.
I like a glass of wine or 2 but it wouldn’t occur to me to take alcohol somewhere because it wasn’t available.
Our Odeon does actually serve booze and I have had a drink during a film but if they didn’t I would enjoy the film just as much

Lobelian · 21/09/2021 08:23

You need to ask yourself, What would James Bond do?

Simply don a tuxedo/wetsuit (ideally simultaneously) for your evening out and take ten a couple of pre-mixed martinis in a chilled cocktail shaker. If challenged, say you're dressing up for the event, Rocky Horror style, and the cocktail shaker is merely a prop. If challenged further, kick them in the shins and run away, shouting, 'That vodka has quite a kick, Moneypenny!'

Are you overly dramatic irl too @Whitedressparis? Your desperate attempts to be oh so funny are a bit sad.

Not sure what I'm protesting about 🤣

cherish123 · 21/09/2021 17:56

😆
Sounds a bit like a night club! Having your bag checked at the cinema 🙄. Independent cinemas often have a bar.

amoobaa · 21/09/2021 17:57

I’ve never had my bag checked... I once managed to smuggle a large stuffed crust Pizza in 😂

GrumpyTerrier · 21/09/2021 18:06

Ive just snuck it in my bag

Zeal · 21/09/2021 18:19

Just arrive pissed.

maddy68 · 21/09/2021 18:21

Don't all cinemas sell alcohol anyway?

PetuniaT · 21/09/2021 18:28

We're looking forward to seeing No Time To Die after almost two years also and we'll take in some tins of pre-cut gin and tonic as we always used to. And we're not alcoholic either!

Turquoise123 · 21/09/2021 18:55

I take drinks and snacks for the kids and have , for evening films taken a beer. I don’t think I would be happy going to a cinema that searches my bag

MrsCocochannel · 21/09/2021 19:12

Use an empty handsantiser bottle fill it with vodka or gin no one will check it

bondgirl76 · 21/09/2021 19:13

I get a small bottle of coke...tip half out..and fill the rest with rum....I hold it..and why do they rummage in your bag??..Dont think they will check the bottle...i would say no anyway.

Queenbee77 · 21/09/2021 19:17

Clear water bottle filled with white wine or flask with red wine and a coffee cup in the hand. Seriously? They checked your bag? Ok..well I find the more they see ...the more they dont see.....hiding things in full view is always a winner.
