Is there any way to smuggle alcohol into a cinema

The cinemas in my local city doesn't serve alcoholic drinks. I'm not an alcoholic by the way.

I was waiting for the James bond movie for a long time but covid came and it didn't come out. Its been a long year filled with so much shit. I'm not an alcoholic by the way. I do practice drink safety. I don't drink to get drunk. I would like to have some drinks when I go to the cinema. I want to pack my handbag with a bottle with me in my handbag. I want to enjoy some drinks while watching the movie to relax and unwind. I won't be falling out the door drunk.

Last time I was in the cinema my bag was checked or my handbag was taken off me.

Absolutely wouldn’t submit to being searched when going to the cinema, so wouldn’t be going back in a hurry. If you really must take a drink in, buy a bottle of Coke and put a shot in that.

Ellie56 · 20/09/2021 19:53

@ZealAndArdour

You sure told us a lot of times there that you’re not an alcoholic and don’t have a drink problem Grin

Maybe just go to a cinema that serves alcohol. But also, never had my bag searched, not once in any cinema I’ve ever been to anywhere in the UK.

I used to wash out old medication bottles (I work in a pharmacy) and fill them with gin if I was trying to smuggle booze anywhere. No one will take your 'medication' from you.

Love this thread.

I did have to chuckle at the repeated I am not an alcoholic by the way. I'd worry if you were as you don't seem to have your 'secret' drinking skills down pat.

Always vodka in a pop bottle. Short of having a table you are going to be swigging anyway.

Alcohol at the cinema is a no no for me because I smoke. Can't have one without the other. 2 escalators down to the outside where I am. I don't have the attention span to sit for 3 hours anyway - unless I am at home comatose through booze. So the cinema isnt for me really.

I so wanted to say slit the pocket in your army coat and carry the booze round at the bottom in the lining. But that was so 1992.

I wish you luck!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 20/09/2021 19:54

Why can't you go a couple of hours without a drink? I drink loads but it has never occurred to me to drink at the cinema.

eekbumbler · 20/09/2021 19:55

Ahaha just seen handbag taken off me has now turned in to a bag of grocery shopping.

Oh OP. You just want to freebase in there dont you Grin

There’s some properly sneery people on this thread. I find this side of mumsnet quite unpleasant.

Same. Happens on any thread about alcohol. I'm on here for the booze smuggling advice 😂

RiotAtTheRodeo · 20/09/2021 20:03

I hardly ever go to the cinema but if I do it's a solo trip in the afternoon, some nice snacks and a couple of tinned cocktails that most supermarkets sell.

Delightful.

DiamondBright · 20/09/2021 20:04

No cinemas where I live serve alcohol.

We have a Cineworld, we take drinks and snacks if we're organising enough, we've even taken sandwiches to a lunchtime showing. I'm sure you could easily take in alcohol in a pop bottle but the rules are no hot food and no alcohol, presumably because they don't have a license. I've never felt the need but I wouldn't drink alcohol to watch a film at home so I'm not your target demographic.

TSSDNCOP · 20/09/2021 20:04

Well they don't chuck out the people with phones, why on earth shouldn't a person sip a gin and tonic quietly and without harming anyone.

SirenSays · 20/09/2021 20:05

God, this brings back fuzzy teenage memories, most weekends we'd get drunk in the cinema and then head out into town.

Whitedressparis · 20/09/2021 20:05

@TrufflyPig sinner!! Grin

Bluntness100 · 20/09/2021 20:08

Never been searched in a cinema in my life, and I worked at one when at uni, never searched anyone there either. I suspect they only do it if you look like you’re bringing stuff in

So a reusable drinks pouch snd smuggle it down yout trousers.

InnPain · 20/09/2021 20:09

Can’t you just watch the movie without snuggling a drink in? Why is it necessary? If I was sitting close enough to you it would bother me so spare a thought for your fellow viewers.

Sewaccidentprone · 20/09/2021 20:10

We sometimes buy m&s sandwiches and take them to the cinema with us. We’re trying to be healthy and also save money, but we do this about once a month.

Dh usually buys a pint and I drink water.

I’ve never had my bag searched at the cinema. Even when I’ve been straight after work and am carrying a laptop, keyboard etc.

InnPain · 20/09/2021 20:10

@LukeEvansWife I agree

cakewench · 20/09/2021 20:11

I have to second the advice of emptying Capri Sun packets (the ones with the twist tops, not the straw puncture ones ofc) and refilling with spirits for mixing with something else. It's my top festival tip as well.

Not an alcoholic etc. Grin

tempchecked · 20/09/2021 20:11

I wish these kind of things were around back in my mad young days, stealth alcohol containers for getting into festivals and the like with contraband booze!

Yep, I like this one, a fold up false umbrella where you unscrew the top and fill it with the poison of choice to be drunk where it is not allowed to be brought in. Brilliant! (sorry for the huge link there).

Our local cinema is an ATG one and they always check bags. Have done for years. It’s totally fine to take food in but you can’t take alcohol in, though you can buy it in there.

They never check pockets though, especially inside coat pockets. No frisking down - only bag inspections. So wear a jacket with an inside pocket, drape a scarf artfully about your person, and swan on through.

What are they looking for? The only times I've had my bag searched except when travelling and working in a secure place is when people are looking for knives.
UnbeatenMum · 20/09/2021 20:14

I don't know about alcohol but I took a whole picnic tea to a Vue in a backpack last week. We almost always take our own supermarket popcorn and soft drinks.

What do you mean it would bother you? You wouldn't even know she was drinking. And is there no social distancing?
Iflyaway · 20/09/2021 20:15

my handbag was taken off me

What fuckery is this?!

No way I would let any random take my bag off me, wherever it is.

It's got all my essentials in it, house keys, bank card, public transport card, mobile. fags, etc.

I have a friend who has a permanent flask of whisky in her bag. I don't care. She is very discreet. Whatever floats your boat I say.

I also enjoy going to a cinema matinee on my own.
