Is there any way to smuggle alcohol into a cinema

The cinemas in my local city doesn't serve alcoholic drinks. I'm not an alcoholic by the way.

I was waiting for the James bond movie for a long time but covid came and it didn't come out. Its been a long year filled with so much shit. I'm not an alcoholic by the way. I do practice drink safety. I don't drink to get drunk. I would like to have some drinks when I go to the cinema. I want to pack my handbag with a bottle with me in my handbag. I want to enjoy some drinks while watching the movie to relax and unwind. I won't be falling out the door drunk.

Last time I was in the cinema my bag was checked or my handbag was taken off me.

Everyman has a bar. I've never had my bag searched. That's weird. I live a glass of wine watching a film

Gilly12345 · 20/09/2021 18:53

If you know the cinema has previously checked bags then they have a problem with alcohol on the premises, can’t you just watch the film without alcohol? If not then go elsewhere.

Imnothereforthedrama · 20/09/2021 18:55

No I’ve never had my bag searched but I don’t think I’ve ever taken alcohol to the cinema but I do take my own can of coke ( refuse to pay their prices ) . I’d just go for a drink afterwards maybe just take 2 of those mini wines or can of g&t .

I’ve never had my bag checked. If you think you will, decant it into another bottle. Seems unlikely they’ll go as far as opening bottles.

butterpuffed · 20/09/2021 18:57

OP, did you have your bag searched and removed last time because you insisted on telling them you weren't an alcoholic ? Wine

Phial · 20/09/2021 18:58

@TheYearOfSmallThings

Ooh, I haven't had my bag searched going to the cinema since the Forum in Glasthule in 1991. Happy days.
I was more a Stella Rathmines girl but I certainly hear ya.
ImInStealthMode · 20/09/2021 19:00

I've never had my bag searched going into the cinema, ever Confused

Our local is Cineworld, they sell alcohol and state on their website that you're free to take your own food so long as it's not hot.

Maybe try another cinema?

EllieSattler · 20/09/2021 19:02

Did they perhaps take your shopping bag as it blocked people from exiting the aisle and was therefore a fire hazard? Rather than having anything to do with the contents.

Turtlesone · 20/09/2021 19:05

I used to always take alcohol into the cinema. I enjoy a glass of wine with the film. No issues, no one ever checked my bag.

DelphiniumBlue · 20/09/2021 19:05

Hip flask in your pocket?

ParkheadParadise · 20/09/2021 19:07

Never had my bag searched.
I was at the cinema last week and we took our own mini bottles of wine, a packet of jelly babies and a box of Celebrations. We were the only 2 in the cinema.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/09/2021 19:08

If it just one bottle of wine each, I usually 'neck it' in the alley down the side of the cinema (there always seems to be one, I don't know why) and 'smuggle' it in, in my stomach. 😜

I've never been stopped and had to have my stomach pumped yet. 👍

Kanaloa · 20/09/2021 19:10

You’re not an alcoholic I guess!

I worked at a cinema for a while and we never checked bags unless it was a big marvel movie or something like that and even then we didn’t care about food, only recording equipment. The chain I worked at only asked staff to tell people they couldn’t bring in hot food, and even that we were apathetic to.

ClemDanFango · 20/09/2021 19:11

Get the fake tampax from the pound shop. They have lidded test tubes inside you can decant alcahol into

GameSetMatch · 20/09/2021 19:13

Most cinemas serve beer and wine, can you just go to a Vue cinema and buy a drink? Otherwise just put one of those cans on wine in your bag.

BorisWhoHackedAtYourMop · 20/09/2021 19:13

Don’t forget to wear a badge saying “I'm not an alcoholic by the way” that’ll throw them off the scent.
Anyway OP, I hope you get a chance to watch this movie, it sounds like you are really looking forward to it. Enjoy yourself. 🥂 🍻

Diva66 · 20/09/2021 19:14

You are an alcoholic by the way.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 20/09/2021 19:15

Why did they search your bag?!
If you really want to smuggle it in, just fill up a small Coke bottle etc with some vodka and coke etc

SpacemanDad · 20/09/2021 19:15

Cheeky wee half bottle of wine in each jacket pocket, sortedGin

RosesAndHellebores · 20/09/2021 19:15

Our local cinema sells alcohol. I've often taken one of those little glasses from M&S with me to save a fiver. Just as I took a bag of sweets and soft drinks for the dc years ago. Never had my bag searched.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 20/09/2021 19:16

Although it’s not illegal to drink alcohol in a cinema so I’m really confused why there is a need to do any smuggling?!

Gwenhwyfar · 20/09/2021 19:16

Just put it in a plastic water bottle. Surely, they don't open and sniff all the bottles.
I find it odd that they search people's bags. What for?

TillyTopper · 20/09/2021 19:16

Why would someone want alcohol just to see a film unless they had a problem? (Or is that just me that thinks that). But... it sounds easy, Evian bottle, vodka. Easy.

speakout · 20/09/2021 19:17

It sounds quite civilised and my suggestion would be a hip flask.
Wouln't work for me though.
I have a short route for alcohol through my body, straight from throat to bladder in 10 minutes flat, if I drank at the cinema I would be getting up every 30 minutes to pee.

Blueskythinking123 · 20/09/2021 19:18

My DD filed hand sanitisers with alcohol/vodka when she went to a festival.
