Is there any way to smuggle alcohol into a cinema

The cinemas in my local city doesn't serve alcoholic drinks. I'm not an alcoholic by the way.

I was waiting for the James bond movie for a long time but covid came and it didn't come out. Its been a long year filled with so much shit. I'm not an alcoholic by the way. I do practice drink safety. I don't drink to get drunk. I would like to have some drinks when I go to the cinema. I want to pack my handbag with a bottle with me in my handbag. I want to enjoy some drinks while watching the movie to relax and unwind. I won't be falling out the door drunk.

Last time I was in the cinema my bag was checked or my handbag was taken off me.

@GameSetMatch

Most cinemas serve beer and wine, can you just go to a Vue cinema and buy a drink? Otherwise just put one of those cans on wine in your bag.
Most cinemas serve beer and wine??? I don't think I've ever been to one that does. Our local arts centre has a bar and you can take drinks into poetry readings and the like, but not to the cinema. The Everyman does, as someone noted above, but it's a theatre more than a cinema. I've never seen any of the big commercial cinemas, Odeon etc. sell alcohol.
MouseholeCat · 20/09/2021 19:19

I'm a maligned tee-totaller on here, but I've always brought in my own snacks and just put them in my bag. I can't see why wine would be any different.

I'm in no way against cinemas serving alcohol, although I do find it strange that you'd want the alcohol enough to relax while watching a film that you'd smuggle it in.

Gingernaut · 20/09/2021 19:20

Do you know anyone missing a limb?

@TillyTopper

Why would someone want alcohol just to see a film unless they had a problem? (Or is that just me that thinks that). But... it sounds easy, Evian bottle, vodka. Easy.
Maybe they just want to have a drink while they watch the film. I like to have some wine while I watch Netflix on a Friday night, doesn't make me an alcoholic. I went to the cinema on Saturday, a drink before and two drinks afterwards. Is that make me a better person than someone who drinks during the film? I don't think so.

Attach a piss bag to your leg, filled with some booze resembling piss. They've never gone as far as patting you down on your way in, right?

Hen2018 · 20/09/2021 19:21

I’ve even considered needing alcohol during a trip to the cinema. And I used to be an alcoholic!

ParkheadParadise · 20/09/2021 19:22

You can order your drinks at my local cinema and collect them when you arrive.
The problem is I'm used to house measures 🍷🍷🍷 so prefer to take my own.

Rainbowheart1 · 20/09/2021 19:25

I think it’s a myth about bag searching. Maybe something they used to do years ago but certainly not anytime in the last 5 years.

Hen2018 · 20/09/2021 19:26
  • even = never.
LubaLuca · 20/09/2021 19:26

Not any time in the past 20 years I'd say.

Rainbowheart1 · 20/09/2021 19:26

Don’t listen to posters saying your an alcoholic, it’s a drink with a film. Some people on Mumsnet enjoy taking the wrong end of the stick then beating you with it!

Congressdingo · 20/09/2021 19:26

@Polkadots2021

Did nobody else do this in their youth? Seriously, posters acting as if the OP is nuts, what are you on about Grin
I never thought of it, never been much of a drinker. More to the point, there's no need now, some cinemas serve alcohol. Just go to one of them.
OldTinHat · 20/09/2021 19:27

I've just got back from watching a film at Cineworld and jauntily carried my water bottle in with me. Their rules are you can take anything in except hot food or alcohol but who is to know whether that's apple juice or wine in your water bottle?

Wishimaywishimight · 20/09/2021 19:35

@Phial. Stella Rathmines is awesome. I haven't been since before Covid but on 2 occasions I was there, Friday afternoons I think, they were giving a free glass of prosecco and a chocolate on the way in!

Lalliella · 20/09/2021 19:35

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Doomscrolling · 20/09/2021 19:39

The Everyman has seat-side service of wine and cocktails. They are doing a whole ore-film cocktail party for the James Bond opening night

TheWoleb · 20/09/2021 19:42

Go to an everyman cinema.

Blossomtoes · 20/09/2021 19:43

@CloseYourEyesAndSee

People who say 'I'm not an alcoholic by the way' twice whilst planning now to smuggle a bottle of wine into the cinema might want to examine their relationship with alcohol just a little bit more closely
This. I have been known to replace the contents of a fizzy water bottle with gin and tonic when going to Twickenham where the drinks are ££ and the queues are long.
MrsMaizel · 20/09/2021 19:45

I take McFlurries in in my handbag .

Marguerite2000 · 20/09/2021 19:48

How about a prosthetic baby bump filled with booze?

Artesia · 20/09/2021 19:50

Wine bra?

Is there any way to smuggle alcohol into a cinema
drumandthebass · 20/09/2021 19:50

I emptied a bottle of flavoured sparkling water (I think the Tesco bottles are coloured) and poured some sparkling wine in it. Because the bottle is blue I think (?), you couldn't tell it was wine

Peanutsandchilli · 20/09/2021 19:51

Your handbag was not previously taken off you. Your bag may have been checked but I've never known any cinema do that.

Asking how to smuggle alcohol into the cinema whilst simultaneously telling us, multiple times, that you don't have a problem suggests quite the opposite.

Perhaps wait until you can watch it at home if you need to relax that much.

isthismylifenow · 20/09/2021 19:52

When I was younger we used to he able to buy sachets of vodka etc, purely sold for the purpose of sneaking into places. If they are still around you can bung onein your pocket (just one as its been made clear you don't have a drinking problem), buy a coke... And Bob's your uncle.

Around here there is no issue of taking things in. The people a few rows back from me brought in a KFC bucket. I was wondering what was going on when I heard muffled 'breast or thigh?'

gogohm · 20/09/2021 19:52

The plush cinema in town has waiter service drinks, just go to one that serves alcohol
