What products to tame curly hair? **not including curly girl method**

I've done the CGM to death.

If anyone could suggest a product that makes curls light, bouncy and not frizzy or fluffy that would be great.

Following with interest! I tried the CG method for a long time but it doesn’t work on my frizz! Saw zero improvement, but likewise all products I’ve tried make my hair feel coated and greasy so I’ve long given up the hope of ever having beautiful hair!

@ButterflyAway I'm the same. My hair is so frizzy and CGM never seems to help.

I don't care about whether it's straight or not, in fact I prefer the beachy waves I get when it dries naturally. I just wish I could sort the frizz.

You have both said exactly the issue I'm having.

deep condition once a week or fortnight.
Use a light leave in curl primer
Then scrunch in a mousse.
Air dry or diffuse. Don't touch the hair after that!

I definitely have no intention of drying/defusing.

I've had this same problem for years. I was spending a small fortune at one point trying to keep the frizz down. However, I've very recently discovered aldis Lacura (rip off of the ausie hair shampoo and conditioner) and the frizz goes. Literally. For 99p. Never used to be able to have my hair down due to frizz but have it down all the time now. Do it you'll never look back

I second Curlsmith, get the small sample sizes initially so you can work out which ones really work for you. I like the strengthening foaming mousse (purple) and the aqua gel (blue) which aren't the ones recommended for my hair type.

Also highly recommend Kérastase Aura Botanica Crème De Boucles - no idea what's in this but it's magic for my curls. Don't like much my Kerastase but this is a repeat buy for me.

You could try Phillip Kingsley elasticiser (pre shampoo treatment). It's good because it's not at all heavy and obviously gets washed out.

An oil could help. I've used a weightless oil before now (but can I remember the bloody name of it? No). Regular oils are too heavy and greasy I find.

Depending on how flyaway your hair is, a sea salt spray, but I don't get on with it, bit other people rave about it. Like a beach hair effect. Can be drying (which is why I'm not keen).

I don’t know if you colour your hair - I do and I think over the years it has really damaged my hair. It was so frizzy, I have been hating it. Recently invested in Olaplex 0 and 3 and have used it twice - oh my god! Pricey but amazing!! Left it in for a couple of hours the first time, results were ok. Left it 8 hours yesterday - massive difference! I would pay double if I had to. Also, my hair absolutely hates coconut, so any up ducts with coconut make it absolutely awful!

Same issue, I just ordered some child's farm leave in conditioner which seems to have made a slight difference to the frizz but I am frizzy by next day or washing no matter how much conditioner I use. My hair is just v dry.

John Frieda featherlight curl creme works for me. Put a couple of squirts on your hands and run your fingers through wet hair. Allow to dry naturally and DONT touch it any further!

The historian lady who has the most perfect hair on TV recommends Twisted Sista from Superdrug. I haven’t tried it yet as I do t mind a bit of frizz. I do plan to try it in the future though.

Average curl enhancer. It's a bit pricier but goes a long way. Small squeeze in your hand, run through hair and leave to dry naturally

The garnier banana hair food followed by Cantu curl creme and gel (tiny bit) has worked wonders on my hair - no frizz and defined curls. Go sparingly with the Cantu products but they work so well.

Boots curl creme. V05 do a good frizz free creme and overnight curl creme that work well together.

In my 40 years experience with curly hair, it's less about the product and more what you do with it. You need a good shampoo and conditioner. But not too much conditioner. I need to apply the product onto just the right level of saturated hair. Wet, but not drenched. Then I need to defuse it on cool, especially on the roots. Not to dry, just to lift and set the curl. Then I need to use a bit more product to smooth out fizzy bits.

Or dig out the straighteners. 🤷‍♀️

I only did curly girl for a few months and gave up.
I wash my hair once every couple of weeks, (hadn't used shampoo in years till recently) and only wash with conditioner inbetween. Usually silicone free conditioner, sometimes not. Then as another poster said, Garnier Banana hair food, I put it in when damp from the shower and twist a few curls in the right direction then leave it alone. Usually ends up in lots of corkscew curls, however yeaterday by the end of a workday I was a frizz bomb. Not sure why.

Boots curl creme can be heavy and it's the type of product that you have to scrunch out the crunch. Which I'm never that keen on. Anything that works by creating a cast pisses me off.

Will these work on slightly wavy but very frizzy hair? I have tried CGM but it is way too much faff and only looks okay for a day.
