What products to tame curly hair? **not including curly girl method**

I've done the CGM to death.

If anyone could suggest a product that makes curls light, bouncy and not frizzy or fluffy that would be great.

Thanks in advance Flowers

I really like treluxe products (I have fine, wavy/curly hair)

Boots curl creme and the cheap cooking coconut oil.
A little goes a long way with the oil and if you have thick hair that doesn’t get greasy, it’s a godsend.

I’ve spent £1000s on expensive serums and nothing beats melting a small bit of coconut oil between the palms and smoothing through - I use about a teaspoon worth on the bottom half and any frizzy bits. I have incredibly long and thick hair.

If it’s frizzy it’s probably lacking in moisture so a good conditioner or treatment will work wonders. For my hair I really like the umberto giannini curl jelly wash and curl jelly care. They really enhance the curl in mine and it’s rarely frizzy these days. A good cut is also important, I had a bad cut recently and it wasn’t good for my hair.

Boucleme products are pricy but the best I have come across. The intense conditioner is incredible as good as olaplex.

The trick with the curl gel is to put loads on when you are is wet, scrunch it in for quite a while, then use your fingers to separate your curls.

Dry how you like, I do diffuse as I get a better curl that way. Then, when your hair is BONE DRY scrunch the product out. It comes out really easily. This gives really defined curls that are soft and bouncy rather than hard and stiff.

Also get yourself a hairdresser who knows how to cut curly hair when it is dry.

I’ve given up. Too much product just makes my scalp scaly and it’s awful. I just wash once a week with mane n tail now, and take 45 minutes blowing it straight and taking the straightening iron to it. It lasts about 4 days then the last 2/3 I wear it in a low pony tail, bun or French plait. There’s nothing that makes my hair look ‘done’ enough when naturally curly. My own hang ups I know but I feel scruffy when it’s left.

Can anyone recommend a good argon oil? All the ones I seem to find are never pure!

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 21/09/2021 08:15

@Whiskeylover86

I've had this same problem for years. I was spending a small fortune at one point trying to keep the frizz down. However, I've very recently discovered aldis Lacura (rip off of the ausie hair shampoo and conditioner) and the frizz goes. Literally. For 99p. Never used to be able to have my hair down due to frizz but have it down all the time now. Do it you'll never look back
I'm off to Aldi today

Ecoslay Orange Marmalade.

redferrari · 21/09/2021 14:44

@Blueeyedgirl21 I can totally relate, I end up using my GHDs when I feel like I can control my frizz but I am worried about the condition of hair. Which mane and tail product do you recommend?

THIS.

I have a terrific hairdresser (who has curly hair herself) who cuts my hair dry initially, washes it (catching any 'escapees' during that time, then dries and dresses it and tidies up again, if necessary.

It takes about an hour and a half all in, but my cut is perfect (and I only get it cut twice a year, so it's not a huge time commitment!).

I have had some HORRIFIC wet cuts from straight-haired hairdressers who don't understand that my hair bounces up somewhere between 2-4" when dry...

My dc both have very curly tight curls and I’ve found the Lush one to be the best. I forget what it’s called now but it’s a hair moisturiser for curly hair. I generally hate Lush, but this is really good.

BlackIsQueen · 21/09/2021 15:48

Philip Kingsley pre shampoo elasticiser is the dogs bollocks and gives you your most perfect hair

MrsKDB · 21/09/2021 16:12

various things work for me depending on what kind of phase I'm in for my hair

basics: bounce curl clarifying shampoo for the first wash, purple neal and wolf for the second

conditioner - innersense hydrating

deep conditioner - shea moisture Jamaican castor oil restore and repair or something - use with a thermal hair cap

olaplex no 3 once every 2-3 weeks. not too often - it strengthens but doesn't condition so can make your hair weirdly brittle

if want it curly - kinky curling custard and ecoslay orange marmalade BUT I work through in section, squish / rope in and curl with my denman/ hover dry starting on roots (manes by mel method). takes a while but NO frizz and can get easily 5-7 days out of my hair this way

straightening days - airwrap brush attachments then ghds just on a few pieces to make it smooth / put in a couple of beachy waves. ALWAYS use heat protectant and I also like the percy and read primer / smoothing balm and kerestese pre styling oleo oil.

I used this on my hair this morning, I have left it to dry naturally, no frizz and the curls have come out as beautiful ringlets

One thing which has really improved my hair is sleeping with it in a Buff. I pull it over my head at night so my hair is covered by it and also on top of my head, like a high ponytail, except not fastened in a ponytail. It definitely reduces frizz appearing overnight.

Google Buff and curly hair and I'm sure there will be a video or post that explains it better than i have done Grin

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 23/09/2021 10:03

@Whiskeylover86 used the Lacura Aussie knock off (the moist one) and I swear my hair is the softest I've ever felt it!

StarryGazeyEyes · 23/09/2021 10:18

A lot of the products recommended here have been too heavy for my long but very fine curly hair. I'm getting good results at the moment using Noughty (used to be Naked) products, which come in a lot more affordable than Curlsmith. They do a 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner which I use first then use one of their conditioners , and then their leave-in To The Rescue conditioner on the ends. If I do that twice a week it pretty much stays under control - I damp it down each morning in between washes and add a little more leave-in.
