Dont buy a house next to a car enthusiast.

Every single day there is revving, spraying, random swears. Its constant. Its impossible to have a relaxing sit in the garden.

His friends come round and they all stand round the banger that is being tinkered with, blocking my drive with their own cars.

Phil and Kirstie dont tell you this so I thought I'd better. You are welcome.

What does he say when you have mentioned all this to him?

wolfstarling · 17/09/2021 13:40

I agree. I have a neighbour who is constantly by his fence and double garage spraying, tapping, tinkering, starting engines moving cars around, exhaust fumes, paint fumes, infact he is a constant presence outside and puts me off going outside myself.

wolfstarling · 17/09/2021 13:42

Tbf he is tinkering with lots of other things but not a day goes by when the garage door doesn't crank open and I can see his head bobbing around. Confused

LindaLooky · 17/09/2021 13:49

I am reasonable enough to know I cant ask someone to abandon their hobby so I can sit in the garden @Mariell. Just having a rant really. Its annoying and he never goes anywhere, I mean if you love cars so much go and drive one for miles, many many miles away!

@wolfstarling maybe you are my neighbours neighbour! Grin

Or motorcycles!!

We lived next door once to a guy who collected classic motorbikes.

The constant revving drove me insane.

wolfstarling · 17/09/2021 14:00

I think we need to develop an equally annoying hobby to restore the balance. Any ideas?

I agree take the cars for a spin! Go on a road trip! No, lets just rearrange them on the drive and outside my house. Confused

YlangYlangYlangYlang · 17/09/2021 14:20

Oh agreed! Angle-grinding, constant angle-grinding. And ours is now in his 80s but we've had nearly 20 years of it.

UnitedRoad · 17/09/2021 14:28

@wolfstarling

Trampolining might work? Some kids four doors away had a trampoline and the constant squeaking was horrendous. They were just little girls though. Imagine the noise you’d get with adult sized bouncing.

It would need to be reinforced if I wanted to try.

LindaLooky · 17/09/2021 14:31

We could take up instruments? Recorders are a good starting point. Anyone know "row row row your boat"?

Do you live near me? My neighbours have 6 cars. Only three of them drive. Three of the cars are one of their kids. The road is constantly blocked with their cars parked legally, but make it awkward for us to get onto our drive, or even drive down the road (it's a bit narrow and on a corner).
spiderlight · 17/09/2021 14:54

Or a retired engineer. He is lovely and so helpful, but he manages to find things in his garage to hammer/saw/drill/weld for hours every day.

Yesitsbess · 17/09/2021 15:06

Learn to play the Basoon.

Or bagpipes.

What does he say when you have mentioned all this to him?
These types of comments are so overused and boring
Whatadolt · 17/09/2021 15:26

An ex Elvis impersonator. All day in the summer he sings at the top of his voice.

londonmummy1966 · 17/09/2021 15:31

Recorders are a bit quiet. You could do what my CF ex neighbour did and get your children to do their trumpet practice with the window open at 6.30 am before they go to school? A newbie on an oboe can be pretty excruciating too....

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 17/09/2021 15:44

My neighbour is a mechanic and hoarder car collector. Buys heaps and does them up. Currently has 2 on the drive and 4 in the culdesac.

The Camper is a particular treat during it's daily rev. They don't camp.

They all legally parked. But fuck me i'm sick of looking at them.

nancydrew · 17/09/2021 16:25

Is it a hobby or a business? Would it be worth speaking to Environmental Health?

PissedOffAgain · 17/09/2021 16:55

I think you all live next to my brother. Although he knows nothing about cars, just likes having lots of them (waves at brother having alerted him to this thread!)

MrsMoastyToasty · 17/09/2021 17:01

Don't buy a property next to one with a basketball hoop fixed to their wall. The neighbour's little darlings shits will be bouncing their ball from morning to night and usually when you're trying to have a snooze.

I'll grant you I do like a, very, noisy car... I do try and mitigate this by not being a dick and needlessly revving it. Simply start, in gear and (slowly) go once or twice a week.

My neighbours with their house alarms malfunctioning on the other hand.....

Serenissima21 · 17/09/2021 17:16

This was my neighbour but with motorbikes. The problem got resolved after a couple of years but he was adamant that he had the right to rev his bikes way into the night. Drove me mad.

crosshatching · 17/09/2021 17:19

Time to take up the bagpipes!

LindaLooky · 17/09/2021 17:35

WORD. Of course the first bloody comment is from someone who doesnt grasp the concept of an online chat forum.

Make him register on mumsnet and explain himself to us @PissedOffAgain! Is he hiding from his family? I suspect my neighbour just wants to be alone so comes out to tinker.
