Does he have any idea what the implications of that are? Does he even care?

OP posts:
rocklamp · 17/09/2021 08:04

He won't care. Men feel entitled to be anywhere at all times. They don't give a shit.

jugglingduty · 17/09/2021 08:06

What a creep.

Can you link to where this is please as I can't seem to find a reference to it. Thanks

He was interviewed just before 8am

Hathertonhariden · 17/09/2021 08:22

Radio 4 today programme this morning. He was directly challenged by the interviewer on the statement and was adamant about it repeating it as his position.

You would have thought that being asked to confirm his position might have given him a hint that this might be controversial and might be worth a pause for thought but no.

They are now on a separate piece about the massive rise in attacks on women which sits unhappily against Ed Davey's comment.

I’d like him to know what it’s like to be a young girl in this world, and hear a senior politician tell her that she can never go anywhere that a biological male can’t follow.

BubbleCoffee · 17/09/2021 08:30

Effectively he is saying there should be no genuinely safe spaces where women and girls can go.

Bonheurdupasse · 17/09/2021 08:35

So surprising. NotAngry

borntobequiet · 17/09/2021 08:38

An instance that made me think about this was when in the changing room at the leisure centre - the women’s dry side changing, without cubicles, not the “changing village” pool one. There was only me in there, a mid 60s grandmother, and a couple of 12/13 yo girls. We were all perfectly safe. But supposeI had been a man, fully male bodied and unmedicated, self identifying as or claiming to be a woman? At that time it seemed very likely that this would soon be the case, in law. I wouldn’t want that for my granddaughters or in fact anyone.

littlbrowndog · 17/09/2021 08:39

Does he even consider women and girls of different religions.

Or just women and girls

Or are we not worthy

DoormatBob · 17/09/2021 08:40

It feels like he is half way there with the argument but still doesn't see a problem?

Trans Woman and Biological Man are equivalent. Personally I can't see how it's acceptable to allow a subset of Biological Men into Female single-sex spaces?

littlbrowndog · 17/09/2021 08:42

I was reading a piece about physiatrist wards where there were mixed sex wards and how awful it had been

Some women just discharged themselves due to the constant harassment and fear they felt

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 17/09/2021 09:14

We all know who will share the brunt of this men's rights movement,
It's not going to affect him or his posh friends is it.
Oh yes, not the rich,
it's women in jail who have to share with transwomen who are sex offenders
women who can't afford a private room in hospital, and have to share spaces with men now,
women in mental health care,
Young working class girls in public baths or mixed sex changing who have to share with voyearistic opportunists.
Some women are prayed on by voyears in mixed sex changing an 800% increase on attacks on women - it doesnt matter to him, he doesn't give a shit.

Eyesofdisarray · 17/09/2021 09:18

Daft comment; nonsense
Especially after the news item saying VAWG should be a high priority
Lib dem - say no more

AGreenerShadeofKale · 17/09/2021 09:22

Libdem: they either don't have or have never needed the self preservation gene ime.

FinallyHere · 17/09/2021 09:27

It was sounding quite good, up until that questions. He dealt with the other potential issues in a pretty reasonable way.

Since I assume he would have been briefed on this question, that is indeed the considered line.

Pity. Been feeling politically homeless for some time.

SpikeDearheart · 17/09/2021 09:36

This makes me absolutely furious. How bloody DARE he. Someone with no lived experience of being a girl or woman, and with no empathy, awareness or common sense, dictating so high-handedly how women's lives, dignity and safety should be compromised. I know these attitudes aren't 'new news' but it still makes me incoherent with rage.

BelleOfTheProvince · 17/09/2021 09:52

Well at least he's being honest that he doesn't consider safeguarding, privacy or dignity worthy of protection.

Good to know when you cast your next vote. He's not alone in his contempt for women in the party by a long chalk.

42SrauvP · 17/09/2021 09:56

BelleOfTheProvince I agree - I'm glad he's been clear at least. I'm politically homeless these days but now I can completely rule out the Lib Dems, no matter how reasonable the local crew knocking on the doors may appear to be. I wish more party leaders would show their cards.

This. All of this.
334bu · 17/09/2021 10:00

So women can expect men in the next bed in hospital,in youth hostels, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, prison cells etc and Ed Davey thinks that is OK and this is Lib Dem policy? What the.!

cushioncovers · 17/09/2021 10:02

Ffs sake the Nhs have just gotten rid of mixed wards because it doesn't work. You telling me we now have to go back to that?

DoesHePlayTheFiddle · 17/09/2021 10:03

Please never vote for him again.

MoltenLasagne · 17/09/2021 10:05

To think I used to vote for the Lib Dems.

SigourneyHoward · 17/09/2021 10:25

I'd say 'unbelievable' but its not...
