I wish we could travel again too, felt emotional at seeing IKEAs cloudberry jam as it reminded me of our trip to Finland where the lady made us lots of fresh juices and meals and had brown bears in the wild.

Could not sleep last night with lots of leg cramps but got to do the accounts and sort emails and got to sleep around 7am and slept to 2.30pm. DH laughed at me for sleeping through until then and waking up like a sleepy cat. He had been very efficient, been and got carpet cleaner, food for a roast and flea spray and lemon menigue tart. He said he could not get petrol though. I had warned up about petrol as he always leaves it to the very last minute but he was lalala about it and said he was waiting until he ran out. Luckily we dont need the car until next weekend.

Silkiecat just called DH, I expect she can smell the roast and thinks its time to put it in her tummy. Did some more Duolingo Russian. I am on their leaderboard as rabbit and was in gold place this morning, our rabbit looks like a genuis at Russian. Grin

Pheebs2021 · 26/09/2021 15:40

She who cuts the last of the cake up gets the bigger bit. Fact?

Silkiescatz · 26/09/2021 17:26

That sounds reasonable to me Pheebs

DH is having a nap. Silkiecat is not happy, he has not timed it to coincide with the 22 hours Silkiecat naps and she needs her preferred servant not just any old servant. He will be told off later.

Silkiescatz · 26/09/2021 17:30

Silkiecat couldn't wait with her complaint, she woke DH up which is quite an achievement as he is deaf in one ear. DH is fetching Silkiecat to go to nap with him.

Silkiescatz · 26/09/2021 18:09

Silkiecat did not accept DHs plan instead she remained downstairs and is calling him very loudly every 5 minutes. He has given up trying to nap and is with Silkiecat.

DD has lost her sense of smell though better than she was. I now have a numb hand. DH asked me if I sat on it Hmm and then recommended I drink coke.

HelenaJustina · 26/09/2021 18:12

Pheebs the rule of there is arguing amongst DC is that one person cuts and the other person chooses…

HelenaJustina · 26/09/2021 18:12

if there

BasiliskStare · 26/09/2021 18:50

@HelenaJustina that is the law & I am knocking on for 60 - it has always been thus .

We have booked tickets for new James Bond film - we can all go before DS starts new job & so he will probably be v busy so have booked a matinee. Either steak and chips or burgers afterwards.

Best wishes to Silkiecat.

BasiliskStare · 26/09/2021 18:59

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

I am properly arachnaphobic - I cannot agree a spider is beautiful but wold be interested in their use - so eating flies etc ? I guess . Does that help the ecosystem ?

We never kill them but we do hoik them out of the house. My mother hoovers them up.

Not sure if an urban legend but we have conkers on our window sills - not many spiders.

Lemonsandlemonade · 26/09/2021 19:52

Today I made a cake. I wanted to try this frosting recipe coz I have been after a good chocolate frosting recipe.

Squirrel26 · 26/09/2021 20:26

I have two Audible credit, but I'm not sure what to use them on.

MissConductUS · 26/09/2021 21:45

Lemons, what flavor was the cake? How did the icing turn out?

Squirrel, Audible never appealed to me. I'm not in the car long enough to make a dent in a book and I can read much faster than someone can read to me.

DH is zonked on the couch. I think his covid jab yesterday is catching up to him. We have our weekly Zoom call with the kids and MIL shortly, then grilled teriyaki skirt steak and rice for dinner.

I'm not afraid of spiders and generally leave them be in the house. DD is properly phobic of bees and wasps. She wrote her personal essay for her uni applications on her struggle with it.

It's been a lovely fall day here. It's nice to have the windows open and the AC off for a change.

Prok I am loving your talk of wine and food. I remember going to Munich a couple of years ago with my friend and we had gluhwein, beer and delicious sausages. Such a beautiful place.

Lemonsandlemonade · 26/09/2021 21:54

@Squirrel26I’m half way through Barak Obama book it’s a bit heavy on American politics for me ( yes surprise surprise!) but I love his voice. It’s up there with David Attenborough’s.

@MissConductUS the frosting was lovely turned out so well thick and velvety - not cut into cake a plain sponge cake yet am saving it as have an old colleague coming round tomorrow.

Can’t wait for a crispy autumn day. Weekend has been ok though weather wise.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 26/09/2021 21:59

This has been a usual Sunday for me. Just shopping, cooking and supervising DS3.

Silkiescatz · 26/09/2021 22:02

We have Audible but I never have the motivation to listen to the books though I only read factual things normally. DD sometimes uses it.

DH got up though was somewhat grumpy as he needed a nap but Silkiecat was having none of it. Then he played the piano and it had a calming effect.

DD has returned from seeing friends. DS has had a bath. I've not eaten tonight as our roast dinner and lemon meringue pie at lunch was rather large.

DH is just on the phone with French family telling them about our covid, he didn't want to tell them before as his Mum would worry too much. His work, on the other hand, get hourly updates on how ill he is feeling when he isn't sleeping.

I just watched a program which covered a November 2020 hurricane in Providencia in Columbia and it was devastated.

DD said her friends said that her brother is very quiet but cool, or whatever the latest word is for what we called cool in the 80s. DS was Shock and Grin

Silkiescatz · 27/09/2021 02:05

DH said he has almost no petrol. I said did you not try to get petrol today. Yes he said but the petrol station had a queue and I was not queueing so I went to the next one with no queue. That was as they had no petrol. Then I went shopping and went to first one as no queue then but that was as they had no petrol.

Just contacted a 3rd carpenter, hopefully this one will reply and wants work.

BasiliskStare · 27/09/2021 03:28

I am going for a walk tomorrow with a friend I have not seen for a while and he has a young dog - I am going to meet him for a cup of tea in the park with our dogs. I hope they get on - I am sure they will. we can make sure

Silkiescatz · 27/09/2021 04:14

Hope you have a nice walk BasiliskStare

DH and I were just discussing renovating the kitchen then DH says I can't do this any longer I just have to go and measure our worktop now. Its 40mms. He couldn't wait until morning to know that.

BasiliskStare · 27/09/2021 04:27

@Silkiescatz I like the cut of your DH's jib - at least you know. Grin

BasiliskStare · 27/09/2021 04:41

Oh and @Silkiescatz I have a picture in my mind ( and my mind is not a place anyone wants to go ) Silkicat is on the work top looking down and thinking - are you sure that's 40mm or is it 39 mm - up to you DH - just check the tape measure - Oh many years ago when we were first married DH and I had four cats - One was a rescue and went to SIL because she did not get on with the others . One had to have her leg amputated for reasons and did not live too long after that - and the other two lived out their lives. - But now we have dogs, - I can still think of little dog having to be involved in measured of kitchen work tops Grin

Silkiescatz · 27/09/2021 04:56

Silkiecat is 17 now and cannot get on the kitchen worktops anymore and is fast asleep, if she was awake she'd have been cross with DH for doing tasks not for her. Though she does like DH in the kitchen as that is where her food is. She is supposed to be on a renal diet but she decided the vet meant that the renal food was in addition to her normal tuna and chicken diet.

DH is finally asleep. I have ordered personalised 16th birthday cards for DD and her friend. I am watching the Nolans Go Cruising, that is how bored I am. Can never sleep at night these days though the peace is nice.

mathanxiety · 27/09/2021 05:52

I was so busy all weekend I didn't get to crack open my book once.

Lovely weather has returned so my new jasmine plant is out on the deck again.

DD2 leaves tomorrow after her flying visit for a Harry Styles concert. She'll be here for brunch tomorrow but I'll be at work, so I baked a fancy bread pudding for her and DD4 to enjoy.

Pheebs2021 · 27/09/2021 06:27

I've been awake a couple of hours now, popped to the bathroom and in the meantime Ddog jumped in my side of the bed, by the time i had got her to move I couldn't settle again.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 27/09/2021 06:30

Sleepless night here, I have pressure building up in my left ear and the sinus from my nose to my jawline has swollen up with the neck glands, no pain thankfully just pressure but a gland has swollen up behind my ear.

I think is making the jaw/ear gland swell too an each one is causing a domino effect on the rest so it's all pulling tight, strange as it is only affecting this one area. Don't believe it to be ear or tooth related as the first signs of problems with those are usually pain which is very distinct. I have an appointment booked for bloods this morning so I am trying to decide if I should cancel it or not. I have done 3 lateral flow tests overnight, the first two were void but 3rd one was negative. Any thoughts?

In other news I made up my Christmas stuffing last night, now in foil trays labelled in the freezer. I'm making pigs in blankets next weekend.
