Indulge me please! If you're wearing a ring, take it off, put it on your phone, and try to scroll with your finger in it.

What happens? What happens if you leave your ring on the screen, but scroll to one side of it?

I have procrastinated tested with several rings and have drawn a couple of conclusion, but would like more data!

Do I scroll with my finger inside the ring lying flat on the screen or on the outside of the ring? Confused

ItsNotNormalLove · 16/09/2021 16:43

It just scrolls just like normal 🤷🏻‍♀️

flyingant · 16/09/2021 16:43

What are you on about? This sounds batshit Grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/09/2021 16:47

Your finger inside the ring lying flat on the screen. And if you wouldn't mind saying whether the ring sits flat on the screen or not (e.g. a wedding band would, a big solitaire probably wouldn't).

Do you want a diagram even though it isn't a parking thread? Grin

Help, this is complicated and my brain hurts Grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/09/2021 16:53

Experiments A and B. Drawing not to scale. Grin

No effect having the ring either around the finger or elsewhere. Which is what I'd expect, capacitance touch screens being as they are.

Careful of scratches btw folks.

Threewheeler1 · 16/09/2021 16:53

It won't scroll, just goes up and down. Is it the ring or my sausage fingers?

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 16/09/2021 16:54

Normal scrolling here - not flat bands though

MedusasBadHairDay · 16/09/2021 16:55

It scrolls normally for me, are you expecting it not to?

SirChenjins · 16/09/2021 16:55

Flat wedding band here, and the screen doesn't scroll - the ring just goes up and down the screen.

Cupidity · 16/09/2021 16:56

A&B both scroll as normal. Ring sits mostly flat on the screen, but not 100% flat

DunderMifflinSalesRep · 16/09/2021 16:58

Normal scrolling with my flat ring but also accidental clicking of annoying advert just under your post resulting in additional pop ups. Is that what you were after? Grin

NotYourCupOfTea · 16/09/2021 16:59

This has brightened up my day Grin
Excellent diagram! Place marking to await the results

ProfessorInkling · 16/09/2021 17:00

No ring. But 10 points for your diagram 👍🏻

Fridafever · 16/09/2021 17:01

Normal scroll both ways

TakeYourFinalPosition · 16/09/2021 17:02

No effect at all - I’d have expected that, to be honest. DHs phone is slightly less responsive, but still works. Mine is a slightly newer phone.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 16/09/2021 17:02

Not flat. Scrolling normally.

Wole · 16/09/2021 17:02

Both A & B result in normal function of scrolling. I have a screen protector. Ring touches flat to screen.

Ninkanink · 16/09/2021 17:03

Did it on my iPad rather than my phone.

Scrolls as normal, up and down, with both my rings. One is a platinum half eternity and the other is a platinum solitaire.

Lonecatwithkitten · 16/09/2021 17:03

Normal scrolling with both flat and D-profile rings.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/09/2021 17:05

A variety of results then!

For me:

Experiment A

Completely flat bands (silver and gold) — the ring moves up and down the screen, no scrolling.

Not flat (one like this so lots of little gaps, two with stones), solver and gold — screen scrolls.

Experiment B

Scrolls in all cases.

Sorry - missed your (excellent - although you obviously have too much time on your hands Grin) diagram.

A - screen doesn’t scroll
B - screen scrolls as normal

Tryingtogetitright · 16/09/2021 17:06

Scrolls as normal for me. Flat edge white gold ring. Intrigued by your study!
