Would you recommend your (smallish) car?

We're planning to buy a second car later this year. DH will be the primary driver, having not driven since he passed his test about 10 years ago. He's tall (6'4") and once he's had a bit of practice, both the kids (7 and 2) will be in the car with him, so we need something with a fair bit of room inside but which is easy to park and doesn't feel like driving a minibus.

Ideally it would be an automatic. Any recommendations? I'm not even sure what my budget ought to be.

I have a VW polo and like it but it might be a bit too small, although it is fairly roomy inside

mrwalkensir · 14/09/2021 13:35

both I10s and VW Up are good for people who are 6 foot 4. Both small cars.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/09/2021 13:35

Hyundai i10 and I love it!

Toddlerteaplease · 14/09/2021 13:36

My 6ft 3 friend fits in it comfortably.

hammyhamster72 · 14/09/2021 13:36

I third the Hyundai i10 fantastic little car

ISpyCobraKai · 14/09/2021 13:37

I have an Automatic Mini Cooper and love it

BoogieFeet · 14/09/2021 13:38

I love my Hyundai i10, but may be a little small for him. Mine is manual but I think they also do automatics

delilahbucket · 14/09/2021 13:38

Totally recommend the new style fiesta's, 2018 onwards.

Buzzer3555 · 14/09/2021 13:40

Skoda fabia. Fab...reasonable price and very roomy

PrettyGuyforaWhiteFly · 14/09/2021 13:54

Mini Cooper here too and my husband is 6ft 9! He loves driving it

Only warning is how far the seat needs to go back means zero leg room behind.

Mine is a manual but had an auto before and they're really fun to drive

BikeRunSki · 14/09/2021 13:58

VW Golf
My 6’4” brother has driven mine easily. Not too big, not too small.
I would go too tiny with growing children. They, their friends and the stuff they carry about is only going to get bigger!!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/09/2021 14:05

I had a Hyundai i10 and loved it, it was a really nippy little car.

TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 14/09/2021 14:07

We have an Hyundai i10 and love it. The new one looks really nice.

Beebumble2 · 14/09/2021 14:09

VW T Cross, brilliant!

CovidCorvid · 14/09/2021 14:12

Dd likes her Skoda Fabia which she got so she can fit her gangly lad mates in the back.

princesspenny · 14/09/2021 14:14

We have a Citroen C3 and I love it, it's the coolest wee car I've ever had. My husband is 6ft and finds it roomy enough but there's no room for anyone to sit behind him

Geekygeek · 14/09/2021 14:23

Nissan Leaf. Excellent city car 😊

2pinkginsplease · 14/09/2021 14:23

Our second car is a toyota aygo. Looks tiny from outside but surprised as to how much room is inside.

Great wee car to drive. I actually prefer driving it to our main car

foxgoosefinch · 14/09/2021 14:28

I’ve a Honda jazz and despite my sister calling it deeply unfashionable and saying she wouldn’t be seen dead in it 😂 it is brilliant - roomy, economical, great to fit kids’ car seats in, easy to park. You can get a hybrid automatic version too now. 👍

Margaritawithlime · 14/09/2021 14:28

We have an automatic Yaris hybrid as our little second car. She’s ace.

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 14/09/2021 14:28

Toyota Aygo
I live driving it. Yes, it looks small bit surprisingly roomy. I’d def recommend it.

HerculesMulligan · 14/09/2021 14:40

I had a Yaris (the previous style) and adored it. If I'd been able to fit an Uppababy Vista into the boot without taking all the tyres off, we'd still have it but we got a CMax when DS was about 3 months old.

I have an Alfa Romeo Guilietta which my 6,3 partner drives comfortably. Automatic, beautiful, sporty looking car but fairly economic. Back seats are not hugely roomy for tall adults but would be absolutely fine for kids.

Far roomier boot than anticipated also!

GingerBeverage · 14/09/2021 14:57

Honda Jazz any day. Lovely smooth auto, amazing magic fold flat seats, mechanically robust.

SprayedWithDettol · 14/09/2021 15:05

@ISpyCobraKai

I have an Automatic Mini Cooper and love it
Me too. A 5 door auto. It’s really fun to drive, especially in sport mode 😉
