Really weirded out.. has anyone else had this happen lately? Amazon?

Clicked on to my Amazon Prime TV for the first time in a while and there is the usual profiles, mine, DH's and kids, but then also one called Hannah. This Hannah profile has been watching stuff that neither I or DH watch.

I'm just really confused, I sent DH a photo questioning it and he phoned me asking what I was on as he'd checked Netflix and it wasn't showing on his phone, I said it was Prime and he started panicking about being hacked and people ordering things off his account. Checked orders and nothing suspicious at all.

I just don't get it, if someone was going to hack you they wouldn't make a profile and use their own name? I don't think it's anything suspicious, DH mainly works from home, we have young kids and don't see where he'd have the time to be having an affair. I'm really weirded out! Is this some kind of hack going on at the moment?

Change your password now. Delete Hannah’s profile.

MazzleDazzle · 14/09/2021 10:46

Have you logged into your account on a smart TV when you’ve been on holiday?

MazzleDazzle · 14/09/2021 10:46

Are you able to see which devices you’re logged in on? You can see this on fb but not sure if it’s possible for Amazon.

ApolloandDaphne · 14/09/2021 10:47

Are your DC old enough to have shared your log in details with anyone? Or have you been to a holiday home and logged in then forgotten to log out so someone has used your account? We once went somewhere where previous occupants had left their Netflix signed in and we could easily have used it, but we didn't.

AmazonPrime · 14/09/2021 10:50

I just don't get why if someone was secretly using it they'd make a profile with a name, I would just watch on one of the already made profiles! I'm so freaked out by it! Passwords changed now but just can't make sense of it. Kids are both under 2!

Kids are both under 2

One year olds are pretty tech savvy these days Grin

ApolloandDaphne · 14/09/2021 10:53

So have you been to holiday rental since you last watched prime? If you have this makes the most sense. As for making a profile - I guess people are weird!

AmazonPrime · 14/09/2021 10:55

We've not been away this year! I really can't think of any reason for it whatsoever

Our Netflix was used in South America, we kept getting the Spanish version of TV shows in our recently watched 😁

Go onto your account settings, there's somewhere in there that lists all the places your account has been accessed. Even if you let Netflix know, they just tell you to change the password, log everyone out then manually back in again.

AmazonPrime · 14/09/2021 11:13

Sarah has had access for over a month and has been watching Clarkson and Cinderella Hmm

Really weirded out.. has anyone else had this happen lately? Amazon?

Our netflix account got hacked and they were even cheekier - actually changed the name of one of my accounts to their own name! They changed the subtitle and dub language and started watching their own things on it. It was pretty blatant. I don't think they really care, they'll use it until it's found out and probably move onto another one.

AmazonPrime · 14/09/2021 11:20

Just checked what device has watched it and it said our Samsung TV.. then remembered we sold ours in August on Facebook marketplace. Just checked messages and a lady called Hannah bought it. Cheeky shit made her own profile! Atleast it isn't an affair Grin

You’ve got a Hannah and a Sarah?

Mangozesty · 14/09/2021 11:22

Who's Sarah?

AmazonPrime · 14/09/2021 11:25

Oops. The name was Sarah but I changed it to Hannah just incase it turned out to be something to do with dh. Fail.

Glad you got it sorted out Op.

HeronLanyon · 14/09/2021 11:28

Yet another thing to remember to do when selling something connected in some way to an account (like friend who sold car added new to congestion charge but forgot to remove old)

Nevermakeit · 14/09/2021 11:29

I had the exact same thing happened to us this weekend. Ours was called Zoe!!!! :))). Definitely a blip their end!

AFuturisticalSound · 14/09/2021 11:30

It's not necessarily cheeky, maybe she assumed it came as part of the TV which isn't an unreasonable assumption. If I bought a 2nd hand TV it wouldn't occur to me that the person who sold it would have left paid for apps logged in

Shirleyphallus · 14/09/2021 11:32

Excellent, I admire her ballsiness

FreeBritnee · 14/09/2021 11:33

Pmsl 🤭

Mrsjayy · 14/09/2021 11:33

So is your account still registered to the TV? And the cheeky moo has just signed herself inConfused

ClaudiaWankleman · 14/09/2021 11:36

It's not necessarily cheeky, maybe she assumed it came as part of the TV which isn't an unreasonable assumption.

It's more than a bit naive though. A paid for subscription coming from a 3rd party company being offered free, potentially in perpetuity, with your 2nd hand TV purchase?

MushMonster · 14/09/2021 11:38

I bet you Hannah is trying to log into her account and wondering what has happened!
I think most likely Amazon had a technical fault and have mixed accounts with some other unsuspecting customer.
But just in case, report it to them and change passwords.
Apparently Alexa has been known of starting giving away people's names and details, or starting repeating what someone has just said umprompted, in what is looks like safety and net failures indeed.
This new tech era is good for many things, but security will not be on my top list.
