I just went to DD’s school in pyjamas…

I know pyjamas are not to be worn outside. I wouldn’t normally wear pyjamas outside. But I came into the lounge at about 8.20 this morning and spotted DD’s PE kit on the sofa and thought ‘shit’! She takes the bus to school, which is 20-ish minutes drive away. I asked if she needed it and she asked me to bring it in. So I put a jumper on and off I drove, in pyjama trousers, never having the intention of leaving the car.

By the time I got there I had completely forgotten I was wearing pyjamas. DD said she couldn’t come out because they were doing a fire drill, so I said I would ask reception 🤦‍♀️ Reception said no because they used to end up with a mountain of lunches and kits, I said I understood and walked back to the car. DD then said she could now come out and asked me to go into reception again. I went in, she came and got it, I thanked the receptionist and walked out. Then I remembered I was wearing pyjamas. And there’s no denying it’s pyjamas because it’s fleece trousers with bright neon polar bears on them. I’m dying of embarrassment. Should I send flowers and apologise or do I wait for the ParentMail saying “parents and carers should be fully dressed when in the school building please”? Grin

Anyone wants to make me feel better by telling me their embarrassing school moments? Please? Blush

I doubt she'll forget ANYTHING ever again.

InnPain · 14/09/2021 10:06

Are you serious about sending flowers? I wouldn’t worry about being spotted in pyjamas, it’s not like you were naked!

Well, I hadn’t thought of the positives yet Grin

Nah, just adding a bit of MN drama Wink - I did think about apologising but then thought maybe they’re used to crazed pyjama-wearing parents bringing in forgotten items.

At least you were wearing trousers! I've wandered around with my nursing bra unclipped and nipples showing through my top before.

Antinerak · 14/09/2021 10:25

Oh I bet the receptionist was 'crying and shaking' when you left! Be prepared to see a giant poster with neon polar bears on reminding parents to wear appropriate attire when visiting the school.

I once showed up to work at a fancy office in my pink fluffy slippers so I feel your pain Grin

SpamIAm · 14/09/2021 10:25

I got back from dropping the littlest off at nursery the other day and realised I'd forgotten to rub my dry shampoo in. That was a good look.

SpamIAm · 14/09/2021 10:27

Oh and you've just reminded me (albeit I didn't get very far on this occasion)! When I was a student, one of my housemates parents and her nan came up to visit one weekend. We were all off to a market, had bundled out of the house, locked up etc and her nan said "oh it's nice that you're wearing your slippers, nice and comfy!"

Pikamoo · 14/09/2021 10:27

Oh I've got another good one. Not me but a colleague cycled into work in his lycra. Forgot to bring his trousers. If I remember correctly he had to go out and buy some as he had meetings.

StopThrowingCitrusFruitFFS · 14/09/2021 10:30

Aw op, that did make me chuckle! Haven't done that yet, but I did have to answer the door at about this time yesterday and was in PJs. Don't know why, but I found it super embarrassing. Felt slobby.

If they say anything, just say it's a cool, high fashion co-ord set. "It's ironic, duh. Clearly you don't get fashion" Grin

notacooldad · 14/09/2021 10:37

I once went out on a dage wearing odd shoes.
I have no idea why. I wondered why I was walking funny. ( different heel lengths) The only consolation was they both were black shoes!!

PumpkinKlNG · 14/09/2021 10:41

Omg the shoe thing happened to me 😂 glad it’s not just me, I was running late to pick my children up from school so I slipped on the two black shoes by the front door and off I went, only to realise they were odd shoes when I got down to the school playground, in my defence they were both flat and black just different shoes.

Oblomov21 · 14/09/2021 10:43

Love all these.

PyjamaMamma · 14/09/2021 10:47

Ohh thanks for cheering me up, everybody. Grin

ParentMail has just pinged but it was only a message about the flu vaccine. The polar bears are safe - for now.

I did the odd shoes thing too!!! Job interview, one navy shoe, one back, one block heel, one kitten heel. It wasn't like they looked the same. I didn't notice until after the interview! Fortunately the interviewer didn't notice either (probably helped that he was a sartorially challenged man) and I got the job. I had a good laugh with him about it... a few years later.

LukeEvansWife · 14/09/2021 11:02

Not quite as dramatic but I left the house to walk to the train station to go to work last week. Then I realised I had my top on back to front. So I casually continued walking, hoiking my arms out of my top (trying to avoid showing my stomach) and turning the top round and putting my arms back in.

I impressed myself as I kept walking Grin

Maybe half a case of good wine ?
CloudPop · 14/09/2021 11:13

Joking btw

SummerHouse · 14/09/2021 11:18

I was once half in the pool when some kind soul asked if I had meant to still have my bra on. I liked to be changed in advance and put it on over the top so I didn't forget it / extra support. I think I win. Blush

SummerHouse · 14/09/2021 11:19

P.s. just say you are making a v important statement about climate change.

Carboncheque · 14/09/2021 11:24

Why should the pjs as daywear trend exclude neon polar bears?

CrumpetsForAll · 14/09/2021 11:27

I did this once at a petrol station. Collecting DD late and thought I’ll never need to even get out of the car- road was closed on the way home and a detour had the fuel light on. I didn’t click until I was walking back to the car...

BoredZelda · 14/09/2021 11:27

Meh. I once walked round a shopping centre for hours with odd boots on. I was a bit bothered once I noticed, but I’d been there for a hour at that point so another couple wouldn’t make a difference.

On the forgetting stuff, our school had a box at the door you could drop stuff in to and the kids came and helped themselves.
