Are we setting each other against each other

With the increasing amount of discrimination are we actually causing more problems than solving.
Men against women, black against white and young against old where will it end?

olivermcfuddling · 13/09/2021 06:36

What increasing amount of discrimination?

Pixxie7 · 13/09/2021 06:47

Everyone seems to be fighting for their rights and blaming others when things go wrong eg the young are blaming the old for the state of the country

Are you suggesting women oppressed themselves?

Islamorada · 13/09/2021 06:56

Yes Op I understand exactly what you are saying. I am very unhappy about this.

gibletjane · 13/09/2021 06:58

i think the young are getting a shitty deal tbh.

Mariell · 13/09/2021 06:59

‘We’ are not setting each other against each other that’s the agenda of governments worldwide in order to keep us distracted from what’s really going on.

Pixxie7 · 13/09/2021 07:22

No I am not just talking about women, you can’t turn the tv on without something being said about discrimination of some group.

PurpleDaisies · 13/09/2021 07:23

Some specific examples would be helpful.

InnPain · 13/09/2021 07:26

Those asking for specific examples, just read the headlines or switch the news on, it’s not hard to figure out. I agree, the world is a real blame game at the minute.

Pixxie7 · 13/09/2021 07:28

Ok we have anti semitism, racism, ageism.

I agree that discrimination exists. I don’t understand what you mean by “With the increasing amount of discrimination are we actually causing more problems than solving.” Do you want us to ignore racism/sexism/ageism because tackling it sets people against each other?
Pixxie7 · 13/09/2021 07:35

No not at all I just think we should be more tolerant as a society. Does it matter how old someone is, their beliefs, the colour of their skin. we are all human beings.

powershowerforanhour · 13/09/2021 07:35

Yep
Young vs old
Men vs women
Black vs white
Brexiters vs Remainers
Town vs country
Hawks vs doves
Boomers vs millenials
Left vs right
Big corps vs small business
"Karens" vs snowflakes
Cull the alpaca vs save the alpaca
Anything that can be split into two opposing camps that are then encouraged to tear each other's eyes out.
I think government and all forms of media don't exactly dissuade this.

SpringRainbow · 13/09/2021 07:37

This has been going on for years though, it’s nothing new.

PurpleDaisies · 13/09/2021 07:38

Well, yes. Obviously.

In an ideal world everyone would agree but clearly some don’t and treat others in a discriminatory way. It’s a good thing there’s legislation to try and stop that.

Stasiland · 13/09/2021 07:44

I think people are polarised into different sides. No tolerance, compromise, pragmatism. No one even listens to each other anymore and god forbid changes their mind.
Leavers v remainers, vaxxers v antivaxxers, pro mask v anti maskers, pro lockdown v anti lockdown, 'woke' (hate that term - prefer progressive) v conservatives, 'liberal metropolitan lefties' v left behinds.....I
And yes we are all fighting each other whilst those in power watch.

Pixxie7 · 13/09/2021 07:46

Legislation isn’t working though fortunately racism is slowly improving but only after years of fighting, now we need to start being more proactive about other forms of discrimination.

Social media. Anyone can write lies and propaganda unchallenged and it is everywhere.

Blessex · 13/09/2021 07:58

Even the Emma Raducanu story is then made about immigration by some. It’s so tiring. Why can’t we celebrate something without making issues all the time and inciting division.

Elephantsparade · 13/09/2021 08:05

I think there has always been discrimination and ofen 'two camps' but I think debate has got increasingly polarised with less overlap/middle ground.
I think social media has made this happen more as people can hear more and more views like their own and switch of other views very easily by blocking them.

TakeMeBackTo1980 · 13/09/2021 08:05

Exactly this.

Pixxie7 · 13/09/2021 08:07

Blessex@ really she has been amazing achievement anyone who can’t see that is just jealous IMO.

Pixxie7 · 13/09/2021 08:12

Social media can be the work of the devil but it can be used for good. These companies should be fighting all abuse.

OP posts:
Blessex · 13/09/2021 08:15

The Emma R story should be about grit, resilience, determination and hard work. When I suggested that to someone who was making it about immigration on my feed - I was blocked Shock. Apparently Emma has spoken about it in interviews - but I cannot find that story anywhere from her. Do people make this stuff up to create more issues?

Mariell · 13/09/2021 09:18

Op - if you are free on a Sunday morning go to your local ‘A stand in the park’ - you’ll learn and be better informed than the poison your tv/the media is feeding you.
