Which food trends are you tired of?

Sriracha on everything. Enough already.

I don't understand this trend for putting biscuits on cakes, in brownies and in chocolate. I could understand it a bit more if it's incorporated into the brownie but often it's just stuck on top.

Burgers that require you to dislocate your jaw in the manner of a python, in order to eat them. I don't have a delicate appetite. I like a good sized burger but some are so ridiculously huge and have so many toppings that you practically need a forklift to get it to your mouth.

What food trends don't you understand?

Vegan shit being put on non-vegan food without being clearly labelled. I ordered a beef burger and it arrived with vegan cheese on it. The waitress looked at me blankly when I told her I can't eat soy, so no the vegan cheese isn't fine for non-vegans.

Salted caramel, lumpy milk bubble tea, poached eggs on avo on toast with chili flakes, 'slutty' brownies

RedToothBrush · 12/09/2021 20:11

@ElephantOfRisk

Gin
I hate to break this to you, but thats not ending soon.

Me and my mates appear to be propping up the entire industry single handed and are not bored yet....

TweetyPieBird · 12/09/2021 20:13

@IglesiasPiggle

Chocolate orange everything.
Yes, someone gets it! I want other flavours!
ChrissyPlummer · 12/09/2021 20:14

Gin-flavoured everything, After Eights had gin-and-tonic flavoured chocolates a couple of years ago 🤮.

Buttercream being used to top cupcakes, particularly red velvet, it’s meant to be cream cheese.

Fondant icing, I have a sweet tooth but it’s too much.

The lack of full-fat milk; it’s sometimes a challenge to even get semi-skimmed nowadays.

Sweetener in every bloody drink, some places have caught on and use brands that don’t have it, but more often than not if I’m eating out and driving my choice is water or tea.

mustlovegin · 12/09/2021 20:14

Veganism

bogoffmda · 12/09/2021 20:14

gluten free bread and brioche buns
One is too sweet and the other tastes like cardboard - can I just have some bog standard normal breard.

Portion size - maybe my appetite shrunk over lockdown but seriously am struggling to eat everything if I go out for a meal.

Prosecco

motherofgodhaudyerwheesht · 12/09/2021 20:16

Another vote for sodding giant cakes and cakes with whole biscuits, chocolate bars and kitchen sinks stuck in 'em and lockdown ''I am thrilled to be starting up my business selling (obscenely calorific, diabetes inducing) cupcakes and traybake treats'' posts on facebook.

Love how those posts are usually followed by local slimmers support groups posts 🤣

Plus lethal full milk frappucino type 'coffees' piled high with sugar, whipped cream, chocolate, marshmallows and caramel syrup. Madness.

Roll on a 'less is more' trend.

Ditto milkshakes

Lovemusic33 · 12/09/2021 20:20

Freak shakes, doughnuts stuck on top of milkshakes 😬

Lovemusic33 · 12/09/2021 20:21

And loaded fries/dirty fries

StillWalking · 12/09/2021 20:24

Mac Donald’s ... vile crap of the very highest order. Just no!!!

SquirryTheSquirrel · 12/09/2021 20:27

I think we have seen the back of the abomination that is 'curly fries'. Fries are bad enough - I want proper chips, please - but curly fries are the work of the devil.

Hardbackwriter · 12/09/2021 20:27

I have learned from this thread that I am either very trendy or just very unfussy because I either actively like or am neutral on just about everything that's been mentioned!

I am surprised at the (fellow) veggies who are angry when we get given vegan options - haven't we all spent years rolling our eyes at meat eaters who go on about how they simply couldn't eat a single meal without meat and that there is no conceivable way they could possibly enjoy it? And so we probably shouldn't do the exact same thing about a meal without eggs and dairy?

meemaww · 12/09/2021 20:28

Pulled Pork (yuk)
Salted Caramel (no, just no)
Avocado and Sweet Potato (revolting texture)
Salads that look like they’re all ’wet the bed’ leaves! 😖

ElephantOfRisk · 12/09/2021 20:33

A bit of variety would be nice, I think rum is supposed to be the next thing. I like rum, I hate gin.

SofiaMichelle · 12/09/2021 20:33

@mustlovegin

Veganism
Agreed.

Especially the utter shite fake meat stuff.Envy

BluebellsGreenbells · 12/09/2021 20:33

I think you’ve missed the point

GorgonzolaSouffle · 12/09/2021 20:34

Cauliflower steaks which are usually the same price as an actual steak.
Ridiculous.

I also hate Jaffa cakes or Bourbon biscuits on brownies etc.

Not surprised there’s an obesity crisis. It’s too much.

Confused menus too with too much choice and clearly out of the freezer.

CaptaNoctem · 12/09/2021 20:35

I hate this too. Nearly all the commonly available soft drinks other than may be some colas ( which I hate) are loaded with us. I haven't been able to buy a bottle or can of a soft drink with my lunch since the sugar tax came in. I am so so bored with water.

I've even had to resort to taking my own tonic to the pub as they only use Schweppes which ruins any gin.

ApplesAreTheBaneOfMyLife · 12/09/2021 20:35

Pulled pork (although maybe the peak of that has passed)
Anything with an Oreo stuck on top
Biscoff flavoured everything

Bubble tea
Deconstructed crumbles and cheesecakes

Supersimkin2 · 12/09/2021 20:36

Candied onion chutney. too sweet and the onion bits are long as festoons, always get all over you. Branston, on the other hand, doesn't kill all flavours it comes near or ruin your outfit.

I am perfectly happy to eat vegan food, but I'm not super happy to eat ultra-processed fake steak/chick'n/cheeeeeeeze/zalmon.
LovePoppy · 12/09/2021 20:38

@LeSquigh

Yes! Brioche 🤮. Who wants a burger wrapped with what is effectively an iced bun 🤣. Disgusting.
Me. I love a good burger on a brioche bun
IngridTails · 12/09/2021 20:39

@Jourdain11

What about the smoked chocolate trend? I haven't had it, but it sounds revolting.
Look up Nigella's chocolate torte with smoked maldon sea salt. It's the only reason I have smoked sea salt in my cupboard.
