Wtf do we do with it?

It's only a little one from the market, in case we didn't like it. I've never bought one before 🤷‍♀️

Ooh we eat tonnes of avocado:

smashed on toast and topped with a poached egg and grated cheese. Perhaps a slice of smoked salmon too (DH's breakfast most days).

Added to salads

Guacamole - with lime juice, chopped coriander, chopped tomato and red onion. My favourite.

Tricolour salad with sliced tomatoes and mozzarella and drizzled with EVOO and freshly ground salt & pepper (this was my lunch).

Mash, make 2 pieces toast, put half avocado on each. Salt and pepper. Lovely quick lunch.

Geamhradh · 11/09/2021 17:49

The important thing is to remember it's savoury and not sweet.
Feta cheese or any strong blue cheese, or soft cream cheese. Pepper and oil. A few herbs, rocket leaves.

Ninkanink · 11/09/2021 17:52

You need to wait until it’s nicely ripe (if it isn’t already). It will ripen more quickly if you store it in a paper bag with a banana.

Then slice it and have it on granary toast, sprinkled with plenty of salt and black pepper.

You can jazz it up further with streaky bacon. Or lemon and cayenne pepper/chilli. But I tend to think that very simple is best.

I also eat it straight out of the skin, with salt.

Guacamole or pico de gallo to go with nachos/tacos/fajitas.

imisscashmere · 11/09/2021 17:53

Be careful cutting it. I severed a tendon in my hand trying to get an avocado stone out!

That’s strange. The one and only time I bought an avocado was on 9/11 when itx came on the radio news. Never bought one since.

Hope you enjoy it. x

@lucysmam
It’s lovely on toast BUT are you the Lucysmam I remember from a 100 days to Christmas Princessing thread on S&B?

milkjetmum · 11/09/2021 18:04

Slice and add to a crispy bacon sandwich... I'm going to eat that now!

tickledtiger · 11/09/2021 18:04

Eat it and taste the disappointment.

echt · 11/09/2021 18:07

One of the few, if any benefits of Covid lockdowns in Victoria is that avocados are cheap, now that no-one's in restaurants.

It also means that millennials aren't pissing away money on smashed avoes on sourdough when they they should be saving for pensions and mortgages.
:o

Guacamole, on toast with or without poached egg, halved and fill stone hole with prawns in marie rose sauce,
My mother used to make avocado filled with prawns and rose Marie sauce in the 80's when we had people round to dinner. We like avocados and prawns a lot, but I bet some guests had to force it down Grin

I can't get enough guacamole, so Id make some of that I can get through two avocados my self each evening, made into guacamole

DonatellaVersace · 11/09/2021 18:08

Great on toast. We’re having “breakfast for dinner” tonight so will have it on that. Veggie sausages, beans, mushrooms, smashed avo, toast.

Also nice on a burger, in tacos, a burrito, made into guac and on nachos, in sushi.

Bluntness100 · 11/09/2021 18:09

Gorgeous in a salad with an olive oil dressing. Yum.

FlamingGoat · 11/09/2021 18:11

Chopped into cooled pasta with chicken and mayo 😋

fabulousathome · 11/09/2021 18:13

Mash the avocado up with a tin of tuna. Spead or eat as a salad item. Add a little lemon juice and some mayonaise if the tuna is dry.

You can add small pieces of celery for extra bite.

So yummy.

Quaggars · 11/09/2021 18:14

I loveeee avocados!
My favourite way to eat is on toast.
Slice in half (score round it so it easily twists open, then scoop the stone out)
Mash or slice it up and have on toast (I add a squirt of lemon juice too)
Or make guacamole. Yum.
Or they're really good to make vegan chocolate mousses with!

Weedsorwishes · 11/09/2021 18:16

Mmm love avacodos, full of healthy food fats! It's lovely for a weekend breakfast smashed with some lime juice and chilli flakes (I use chilli salt) on seeded toast.

We have it just cut up on top of chilli, or in fajitas, or as part of any salad really

I'm also growing an avocado plant from the stone but it wont fruit in the UK but makes an unusual house plant

@starfishmummy

I realise lots of people happily eat avocados. But in my opinion just place it straight in the bin. Don't waste other good ingredients on it!!
^^ this Totally disgusting and an environmental disaster

How do you make vegan chocolate mousse with it please? Trying to eat more healthy and this sounds good 🙂
CarrieMoonbeams · 11/09/2021 18:22

@MeredithGreyishblue

Eat it! On lovely granary toast, smooshed up with salt & pepper and a few chilli flakes. Or a poached egg.
That's exactly what I had for my lunch today! Lovely.
