Unexpectedly, what would you spend it on?

No family needs. It's just me and the baby and he has more than everything he could want. No debt aside mortgage that's easily affordable. No childcare and just back at work after maternity so not a holiday. I have savings.

My father gave me a thousand pounds in an envelope today because he thinks I've been incredibly strong since DH walked out on us a month ago and "I deserve a treat". I've genuinely no idea where to start... ideas please!

My immediate thought was travel to see my family but that's probably not on your to do list with a baby!

Do you need/want any household upgrades? A better bed/mattress? A robot vacuum? Steam cleaner? Tumble drier?

roarfeckingroarr · 10/09/2021 19:23

@BertieBotts nope, I have everything I need household wise.

Ah your DF sounds lovely!

If it was me I would buy skincare and candles. You must tell us what you decide on!

roarfeckingroarr · 10/09/2021 19:24

Thank you for suggestions though! Replaced my mattress a few months ago.

New phone, new tablet, new tv?

Mariell · 10/09/2021 19:25

Lingerie.
Handbag.
Coat.
New bedding.
Nightwear.
Beauty products.
Gadgets.

Autumngoldleaf · 10/09/2021 19:25

Gosh what a lovely boost.

I'm not sure op!
With dc I find buying membership to places has been useful, some where for us to go eg I had the weekly lego land pre school pass which was great fun!
And more importantly gave us something to go and out do when dc little and not in nursery.
Natinal trust for when dc older?

Just how financially secure are you?

If it's something for just you... Perhaps personal care? Massages, reflexology... Relaxing classes?
Can you buy child minding hours if your partner has left? Do you have anyone to watch dc?

Save up for a wonderful holiday?

ParadiseLaundry · 10/09/2021 19:25

Actually I do like Bertie's suggestion on a robot hoover. I was judging about one today. Surely not having to vacuum several times a day is as big a treat as you can get Grin

HerRoyalRisesAgain · 10/09/2021 19:26

Your DF sounds fab.

I'd spend it on Christmas gifts for people as I'm terrible at spending money on me.

If I was forced to spend it on me I'd update my wardrobe and treat myself to some luxury skincare and makeup.

roarfeckingroarr · 10/09/2021 19:26

@ParadiseLaundry my DF is wonderful Smile I'm not into candies but i might sign up to a regular flowers delivery, thank you for inspiring. And maybe get my teeth properly whitened.

Oh yes TV subscription?

Autumngoldleaf · 10/09/2021 19:26

Spotify.

Blue4YOU · 10/09/2021 19:27

Gosh I could think of loads! What a nice dad.
You deserve to treat yourself- perfume, skincare, amazing pjs, nice handbag, snazzy outfit, books/hobby things, special piece of jewellery…

JayAlfredPrufrock · 10/09/2021 19:28

Handbag

Or Premium Bonds

Autumngoldleaf · 10/09/2021 19:28

I finally upgraded to goose down duvet cover, one for winter and one summer.

They are so light when changing duvet covers it's a dream and obviously beautiful to sleep under, I'd also get silk pillow cases

HandlebarLadyTash · 10/09/2021 19:28

*Ask him to join you for lunch, and go out together.
Something for the house make the bedroom yours paint it a different colour.
*New winter coat/boots
Enjoy it 😀

A holiday always. We’ve recently decided to go away less but choose the best hotels when we do. We’ve had so many disappointing mid range hotel stays that now I don’t see the point in going unless we go all out.

£1,000 would do 2 nights in a very lovely spa hotel with treatments and dinner.

roarfeckingroarr · 10/09/2021 19:30

So many great suggestions thank you!

DS is already in nursery the 3 days I work. I'm fortunate enough to be entirely financially secure - lucrative career, I own our home outright (he's walked away with nothing so I'm waiting for the "new" girlfriend to appear).

I refreshed all my underwear / lingerie last month and I just can't find clothes exciting at the moment, I think I'm a bit depressed tbh.

@roarfeckingroarr
This just made me cry 😢 how lovely of your dad 💞 probably cause the same happened to me except I didn't get £1000 😂
I would invest in a decent leather handbag and teeth whitening for sure. Any left over nice clothes for when your ready to date again

roarfeckingroarr · 10/09/2021 19:31

I also have a weekly cleaner and a decent Hoover already so not bothered about the robovac - although I love the suggestion!

OP posts:
roarfeckingroarr · 10/09/2021 19:32

Also have Spotify and ex DH's brand new 65 inch tv I didn't want but now won't hand over GrinGrin

AtillatheHun · 10/09/2021 19:32

If you have the hours in the day, a course to learn something new for your new life would be great. Pottery / specialist gardening / kundalini yoga / reformer Pilates / art history etc etc

roarfeckingroarr · 10/09/2021 19:34

@ivegotthisyeah where are you in the uk? How far from London? If you can travel, I'm taking us both (plus the baby as no childcare) for a ridiculous lunch to celebrate being strong xx

OP posts:
roarfeckingroarr · 10/09/2021 19:35

@AtillatheHun I do yoga four times a week it's what's got me through the past six weeks. Great suggestions. I love your username - my baby is called Arthur and I call him Artilla when he's being a tyrant Wink

roarfeckingroarr · 10/09/2021 19:39

@Autumngoldleaf now this sounds interesting. Goose down you say?
