If it wasn’t bad enough he didn’t jump, he was pushed!
@SirYawnsAlot I've picked up what I thought was tension between Shaun & LL, however, when I've heard them talking I thought she was the unpleasant one, who knows really, other then them...
Interesting, it's been a long time since I heard them interact. But 6Music did a few goodbye messages to him from colleagues and don't think I saw her among them actually.

Wonder how on board everyone was with the big schedule reshuffle a few years ago, who had the clout to request moving and who just got shunted somewhere they didn't want to be? So many people on here never liked the change and it's interesting to hear as thought it was just me.

Ha, just read this from LL about Shaun leaving BBC6 on Insta, what do I know... 😂

I think Shaun had become a bit tired. I can’t stand Mary Anne Hobbs, she is so smug name dropping and annoying.
I really love Lauren Laverne and Cerys Matthews.
I think Steve Lamacq has become like John Peel and will have a slot as long as he wants it.

Well her words are warm, but the picture ... it's like he does things to make people feel uncomfortable.

Newhorizon21 · 13/09/2021 09:53

@SirYawnsAlot it's all about context I suppose, he looks like he's having fun at what I presume was a music event, she doesn't look embarrassed or coerced. Lots of warmth in her Tweets re Shaun too

I cried a bit listening on Friday afternoon. I think in the drive to move 6Music to Salford, SWK was a casualty. He wouldn't want to move his family and I remember years ago that was why Nemone was removed from weekend breakfast and Mary Ann Hobbs brought in.

I like Craig Charles and he was really good depping for Lammo last year so hopefully he'll be great in the afternoons. I'm also pleased that Iggy is going back to Sunday afternoons. I would love Huw Stephens to take over the Friday evening slot, I think he should have a regular show on 6.

SunnyDay23 · 13/09/2021 12:50

@enjoyingscience

I’m gutted too.

I do think they are intentionally running it into the ground. The weekend lineup is terrible now, and the music is far less of a mix than it used to be.

Steve Lamacq is well past his sell by (and completely stuck in 1995). If anyone should have been moved on it’s him.

I don’t think they’re ‘running it into the ground’, I think they’re repositioning 6 music as more electronic/soul/hip hop than indie - as evidenced by the recent classic 80s/90s dance days - obviously these were well received by listeners (me included!). Radio 2/radio X already cater to the ‘indie’ audience, there’s no other station with the eclectic mix of music that 6 plays.

I love Shaun Keaveny, especially loved the breakfast show (which I believe he chose to stop doing) but the music he plays doesn’t feel like a great fit any more. I’m sure he’ll get picked up by radio 2 or X.

Charley50 · 13/09/2021 13:40

@SunnyDay23 - I think that may their mission too. If that's it, I think it's a terrible decision; I say that as someone for whom soul and dance origin is my primary music love.

There is already 1 Extra, plus Radio 2 plays dance and soul, and there are zillions of specialised dance music stations. 6 Music is unique in its breadth of music styles; if they start to cater heavily to one genre, it will lose what makes it special.

HerBigChance · 13/09/2021 13:52

I will bloody miss Robert Elms though on weekdays radio london. Listened to him for years and so perfect for london.

Same here. Terrible decision by BBC London.

I'm a fan of Eddie Nestor, who is now in that slot, but I wonder whether this will be the right slot for him, whereas Drive was consistently good, I thought. Robert's show offered something genuinely different at that time, rather than a continuation of news, as Eddie's new slot seems to be.

Atalune · 13/09/2021 14:09

SK I think was such a kind and gentle voice and really bloody funny.

Nemone, Liz Kershaw (her voice!! I am all for regional accents, but seriously??) on the other hand need to go!!

exexpat · 13/09/2021 14:14

I always seem to end up doing long car journeys on Friday afternoons, so will miss Shaun Keaveny, and the regular guest slot by Murray Lachlan Young, among other things. Not a Craig Charles fan, so will have to find something else to listen to.

SK fans might like this (spot the guest appearance):

Yeah but I wouldn’t ever listen to 1Xtra/Radio 1, I’m not into modern dance at all - it’s the old school acid house era stuff I love which no one else plays! But it’s not just dance music you only hear on 6 - also dub, electronica, avant-garde alternative stuff eg the stuff Stuart Maconie plays on the Freak Zone, and real vintage indie stuff that you just don’t hear played anywhere else.

I think there is a niche that they occupy and they’re aware they pick up an audience no one else does. I certainly don’t listen to any other music station bar soho radio on a Sunday night for Norman Jay’s show.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 13/09/2021 14:36

Stupid decision. 6Music has gone downhill.

Horriblewoman · 13/09/2021 14:51

Any radio station which gets rid of Shaun and keeps the awful awful Liz Kershaw needs a serious review.

Agree!!
Charley50 · 13/09/2021 15:35

@SunnyDay23 - totally agree, but my point was I am concerned it might be veering to the more commercial, which would be such a shame. The eclectic mix of genres is what makes it special.

Charley50 · 13/09/2021 15:38

I cannot bear LIz Kershaw. She always sounds so fake when talking to non-slebs, and her voice!

PicardsFlute · 13/09/2021 15:52

I used to have 6music on all day every day at work, before the last big reshuffle… now, not so much. The new slots just never gelled for me - I still really miss Sean at breakfast, Lauren Laverne mid morning and Radcliffe & Maconie in the afternoon. They all felt like affable, entertaining workmates with good music taste (I work solo so appreciated the company!). They could do more with Tom Ravenscroft, and there have been some excellent female guest presenters of late - I especially like the shows Jamz Supernova has done. Also room for more Amy Lame and Cerys in my life! I do like Craig Charles, but not sure he’s right for the afternoon show - we’ll see.

I’ll be so sad if this is the beginning of the end… fingers crossed it’s not.

Oh yeah I agree. If they get rid of the Freak Zone or Gideon Coe I’ll be worried, the whole point of 6 music is to represent what’s outside the mainstream.

longtompot · 13/09/2021 16:37

6music is feeling more and more like Radio 1 to me nowadays. A lot of the music is mainstream stuff and pretty samey. It used to have such a diverse range of music, and I discovered so many new bands by it. I looked at their playlist for this week and I knew maybe 5 artists on there?!
As well as Radcliffe and Maconie, I love listening to Iggy Pop, and I even enjoy Craig Charles, but he is cooking Saturday dinner music, not the midweek evening meal. I do like Steve L, but he can be a bit fanboy with some of the new bands he finds and then promotes to death. I like Guy Garvey, but really wish he wouldn't feel the need to say his name all the time. I love the Sun evening now playing.
I'm not sure there is anyone else I really enjoy listening to anymore.
Any new station suggestions of something like what 6music was?

IntermittentParps · 13/09/2021 16:42

I missed his last show and didn't realise until I read Miranda Sawyer's review that he was pushed.
I do think it's to do with moving more of their output to Salford. It seems so stupid. Craig C is a bit silly and can be a bit unsavoury the way he talks about women. Not a proper 'personality', just a collection of unfunny sound effects.
I adore Shaun and will especially miss middle aged shoutouts and Dirken Juergen.
I thought Liz Kershaw HAD gone? She's not had her weekend daytime show for ages anyway.

I could listen to Tom Ravenscroft morning, noon and night but would also love Katie Puckrik to get a regular slot. I love Iggy too, but I guess he wouldn't want to do the daytime and/or every day.

Steve Lamacq needs to go back to the six-form common room. Mary Anne Hobbs needs to stop doing that self-conscious laugh after everything she says. I can't stand Amy Lame and Tom Robinson is boring. I only really hear Radcliffe and Maconie now if I remember to Listen Again in the daytimes while I'm working; used to love them in the afternoons.
6 has lost its way quite a bit, IMO. If they are in fact repositioning it as more electronic/soul/hip hop than indie, they might lose me. And I don't think Radio 2 caters to an indie audience; it's very much more middle of the road.

Charley50 · 13/09/2021 18:17

Maybe they should....... poll the listeners?

My faves are Craig Charles, Cerys Matthews (educational in a good way), and now the Blessed Madonna. She's dance music, but something quite deep and alternative about her. Loved her interview about Iceland Giles Peterson is a bit hit and miss these days. I like the music Guy Garvey plays but he's so bloody smug; he plays well-known classic tunes but seems to think he's educating us. Can't go wrong with Huey or Tom Robinson and I like the guy who always sounds a bit bemused, is he another Tom?. Iggy Pop, Peaky Blinders guy, Ezra .. all fab.
Shaun Keveany great and seems much-loved.

IntermittentParps · 13/09/2021 18:29

Giles Peterson's show just all sounds the same to me. Within each show and week after week too. Everything seems to be the same tempo.

Forgot about Cillian Murphy. He plays some great music and is good company, but I can't see him becoming a regular and actually turning up to a regular slot.

I think the guy who always sounds a bit bemused Grin might be Tom Ravenscroft – late night on Fridays and he sits in for people sometimes too.

Atalune · 13/09/2021 20:37

Bring back George lamb and his laminator

BillytheMountain · 13/09/2021 20:54

Prefer Craig Charles so not bovvered about SK thought his show was dull, sorry not sorry.
Jarvis Cocker drew me to R6 and enjoy Iggy, Cerys, Gideon Coe, Marc Riley, Giles Peterson

Turn off immediately on the first hint of Mary Ann Hobbs and Liz Krap Kershaw distressing listening to either of them, many of the interviews are all about themselves self absorbed plus numerous name droppings
I wouldn't inflict them on anyone
