Which one of these two would you choose as an every day set, please may I ask? It would be the 16 piece set...

Thank you in advance!

On first look I thought I'd pressed the same link twice!

I prefer the look of the Canvas

The mugs are quite different but have the same capacity. Canvas look like they would stack better in the cupboard. Bowls have different capacity. Linen has been in production for longer, maybe a classic in the Denby range or may be phased out sooner, who knows? But, ow, wow, they are expensive.

twointhemorning · 10/09/2021 13:07

I prefer the look of the Canvas. Just because I have the mug shape/style in different colours. Can't comment on the bowls or plates.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/09/2021 13:17

Neither. I'd buy something similar from Sainsbury's, Argos, Dunelm, Ikea etc or less than a quarter of the price. A plate's a plate as far as I can see.

The second but they're a bit boring

Megan2018 · 10/09/2021 13:27

we have the Canvas and it's lovely.

Unicornhorns · 10/09/2021 13:32

Of your choices the second.

If I had a choice of them all I would go for Studio Blue.

idontlikealdi · 10/09/2021 13:42

I don't like either of them but I like just plain white. If you're spending that much buy some extras or you'll smash something, they'll be out of production and then you're mismatched.

As an aside I really rate Dunelm's crockery.

MrsH201 · 10/09/2021 14:50

Thank you for the replies. I wouldn’t pay that price either - it was just easier to link from the Denby website. Both sets are heavily reduced, and we’ve had our last set of crockery bought from BHS for the past 14 years! Re the colour, yes I suppose I am a bit ‘boring’! Consensus seems the Natural Canvas, if either Smile

I like canvas!

DappledThings · 10/09/2021 16:19

Neither. I'd get something much brighter. Near impossible to see a difference between the two you picked out.

CatChant · 10/09/2021 16:26

Denby is very hardwearing. Our Regency Green set is still going strong after at least 20 years of practically daily use.

Sorry to be awkward but I prefer Linen out of those two options. Green is best though...

BarbaraofSeville · 10/09/2021 16:29

But it doesn't seem any more hard wearing than other crockery.

We have a very cheap set that is about 25 years old that's still in good condition, some Ikea stuff that's not great and some 3 YO Denby that already looks scratched and tatty. I got it half price in a Black Friday sale on a whim and wished I hadn't bothered.

TonyThreePies · 10/09/2021 16:33

I like the Canvas best by far. The lines are sleeker and more modern. My last 2 sets have been Denby, they are very hard wearing imo. My first set is still going strong, years on - I just traded it in for a nicer colour and gave it to my DP!

ISpyCobraKai · 10/09/2021 16:34

Just to be a pain, I have Denby Halo and love it.

Mariell · 10/09/2021 16:39

I only like white tableware so I’m not keen on either.

CornishTiger · 10/09/2021 16:44

Where are they discounted? Any other choices?

NotMeNoNo · 10/09/2021 16:46

They are both nice but Canvas is a bit more modern. I really like the straight sided mugs, I've bought some in Greenwich (our 27 year old set). We have found the stoneware (as opposed to the china styles) pretty hard wearing.

There are a lot more extra pieces and shapes in Natural Canvas - Linen range is older and looks a bit like it might be being wound down.

There are many more pieces and shapes than the basic dinner sets and plenty of seconds available.

ApolloandDaphne · 10/09/2021 16:58

We have the Azure ones and they are wonderful. None of them have chipped at all. Of the two you like I prefer the Linen.

DidgeDoolittle · 10/09/2021 17:10

I have the linen style but in imperial blue. It's been used daily for 30 years and never breaks. I like the simplicity, but with a bit of colour.
Having said that, I would buy canvas out of the 2 It's a more modern shape.

MrsH201 · 10/09/2021 17:22

NotMeNoNo - that is super helpful, thank you. I had wondered whether Linen was an enduring classic and that Natural Canvas would be a passing fad, or conversely whether Linen might be phased out to be replaced by the more modern Natural Canvas. Your answer was therefore very helpful and informative.

There are many beautiful sets of coloured crockery out there, many of which have been mentioned on this thread. But in this instance I would prefer a neutral and, after far too much trawling on the internet, have narrowed it down to these two to decide between.

Interesting that a few have now also mentioned preferring Linen!

How wonderfully diverse our tastes all are... how dull if we should all be the same! 😀

Thank you, everyone, so much for your wisdom and suggestions. They are greatly appreciated.

I have the linen. It’s lovely

SageRosemary · 10/09/2021 20:39

Just to add to my previous post, have you tried to source these through Debenhams? We are in Ireland and they've closed all the branches now but they used to have 40% off Denby pretty routinely (January sale times, Bank Holiday weekends etc)

BeagleBeagled · 10/09/2021 21:02

Our Denby set is very scratched from normal wear and tear compared to our cheap white argos set we bought over 10 years ago.

RoseLavenderBlue · 10/09/2021 21:17

I have Linen! Dinner plates and side plates but as I bought them as separate items, I actually chose bowls and mugs from another Denby range (Fountain/Heritage?) as Linen is so neutral I felt it would mix and match ok, which it does. Been in daily use for three years so far and still as good as new.

ZenNudist · 10/09/2021 21:23

I think linen is a better bet for getting replacement. I have a discontinued Denby set and it's annoying that their classic ranges go on forever but I can't get mine still.

I do like the look of the canvas. They're both very bland. You're going to need spares. I had tonnes. Still got a lot of it but the dc do their best.
