I’m panicking. This means what I think it means, doesn’t it?

This is a BFP isn’t it?

Been feeling nauseous for a couple of weeks. Took a test a week ago and got a negative. Nearly threw up on my run this morning so thought I’d just double check.

I’ve had an ablation, I’m on contraception. There’s only one option for me.

But the sideways line hasn’t come up. Does that mean I’m panicking unnecessarily?

God, it isn’t a great design is it?! I feel like the more you pay for pregnancy tests and things in that category the worse they are!

idontlikealdi · 10/09/2021 11:22

@TotalAndUtterPanic I called my husband crying my eyes out as I read the same test wrong, I really didn't want to be pregnant. That was some relief when I finally figured it out!!

Eralos · 10/09/2021 11:28

I’d say neg. test again in 2days

TheWoleb · 10/09/2021 11:34

Next time, buy a digital test which will show the words pregnant or not pregnant. Then all you need to do is read.

GreyhoundG1rl · 10/09/2021 11:39

@ArabellaScott

that's a bloody confusing test, imo. I'd have freaked out, too.

Brew

It's not remotely confusing.
Boombadoom · 10/09/2021 11:41

It’s negative doll. That’s the control line.

Bluetrews25 · 10/09/2021 11:56

Glad you have the result you wanted.
Are you going to do anything about the nausea?

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 10/09/2021 12:01

@TotalAndUtterPanic

It’s a positive cos the line is going up and down not sideways… or is that the control line and I’m looking at the wrong window in my panic?
The little box to the right will have a line in it to confirm the test has worked correctly and this is the control line. The big box to the left will have a + if pregnant and a - if not-pregnant.

Its a negative test to me.

bongsuhan · 10/09/2021 12:02

That is a really, really, really badly designed product.

The instructions are right there on the front Confused
PullMeInToTheScreen · 10/09/2021 12:09

It is an odd design. As i said before, there are essentially two separate control lines.

Yep.

That doesn’t negate the fact it’s badly designed.

dunkaccino · 10/09/2021 12:19

It would be more simple if the small control window line was horizontal like the negative line. I wonder why they chose to make it the same orientation as the positive? Odd.

To show that it is possible to get a vertical line. The control line is vertical to show that it’s not faulty if you don’t get a vertical in the big window.
PineappleWilson · 10/09/2021 12:22

We have a nearly 9 year gap between our kids as we had one then figured we weren't having any more as nohing happened. I can recall that panic very clearly feeling odd, doing a test and thinking "oh %&$£". Glad it's worked out for you as you'd want it.

It worked out for us too, she's 3 now, but still one hell of a morning that day.

Famousinlove · 10/09/2021 12:23

Positive is +

not _ or I

BarbaraofSeville · 10/09/2021 12:30

Finally!

Someone posts a picture of an obviously negative pregnancy test and people actually see it for what it is, instead of the long line of 'I can see an invisible line, congratulations' posts.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/09/2021 12:48

How is it badly designed? Cross and control line pregnant , cross and no control invalid, no cross and control line negative.

wednesdayweather · 10/09/2021 12:49

Its not really. I've used those tests and the instructions are quite clear about the control panel and the test panel. The control panel is small, the test panel much larger and that has the pictures showing you what a negative and positive look like next to it but away from the control panel. Neither the control panel nor the test window when negative look like the cross needed for a positive test.
bongsuhan · 10/09/2021 12:54

As you can see on this thread, there is potential for confusion because a vertical line is used both as an indicator of a positive result as well as a control line. Yes they are in different windows and it isn't really hard to understand, but good design means eliminating even this potential for confusion.

Yeah, but I have a feeling she'd have got 'not pregnant' and just seen the 'pregnant'

It's as clear as day the other is negative, it's right next to the thing that tells you, that's negative, but 🤦🏻‍♀️

Panic makes you blind sometimes.

What about vertical main line and vertical control line (but no cross in either)? Does the horizontal line not also work as a control?
