This is Boris’s poll tax moment (and I’m a Tory!)

I am a Conservative who comes from a family of Conservatives.

I am a member of the Conservative party.

I have even worked for my local MP.

I have conservative values.

I think Boris’s decision to increase national insurance such that the working poor subsidise the asset rich is an absolute disgrace.

It goes against all C/conservative values.

I will not be voting Conservative at the next election.

I doubt I will be the only one.

Conservative values are that if you work hard you should receive a fair reward.

Newsflash OP
Low paid workers work hard too

PersonaNonGarter Serco paid out dividends of £17 million to shareholders after they took on the test and trace. Their CEO got a bonus of £7 million. He went to Eton. His brother was a Conservative Party MP and his partner is a Conservative donor.

We are literally paying tax for the rich to get richer. Test and trace performed badly. It's not like they deserved the profit. Those that did the actual work won't be made rich by it. Just the ones at the top who are already rich.

Now tell me that the Tories don't live up to a stereotype.

@PersonaNonGarter
I have been to a lot of these meetings and yes, its Boomers. And no, to stand up and object you just need to stand up and object.

Yes, but their objection as heard has to be valid for it to have any effect. Repeating myself here.

Often, these Boomers are crackers and barely coherent. But they are motivated voters who turn up while the other demographic are putting their kids to bed or weeping into their avocados. So they get listened to.

Frothy. Obviously you have decided who you hate, fair enough, and it’s misguided unfortunately.

That friends/developers thing isn’t really a factor at all. It probably does happen but the council is mainly concerned about 1) re-election. And 2) obligations to be seen to try to find more housing. It’s a balance and 1) always wins. So, Boomers object = fewer homes.

Sorry but you’re wrong on this. The council have already approved in this particular case. (I think they are true blue for 100 years or so anyway, so they definitely won’t care about a few votes)

Of course the huge reduction in affordable units is a factor affecting house prices, and “Boomers object = fewer homes” is simply not true unless, er, the objection is valid. (last time)

Clearly though you’re on a mission, so I’ll leave you to tilt at windmills.

Their CEO went to Eton - Confused and? Pretty sure the council isn’t mates with everyone who went to Eton. This is the kind of bullshit that just wastes time.

@swimlyn no, there does not have to be a valid reason - they just have to be voters who look like they won’t vote for the incumbent councillors. Yes, I understand your point on a technical level (am a lawyer) but you are not understanding the facts on a political one.

As for working out who I hate Confused again, this isn’t hate - this is EXPERIENCE. The objectors are from the Boomer demographic. They show up, they moan, they complain, they rob the next generation of somewhere to live so that they have a field to walk their Labrador around.
