What do you use TikTok for?

I’m not very good with social media. But I’m also very bored! Please can you give me your best tips for using TikTok? Thank you :)

My tip would be don't even start. It's really addictive and ultimately a massive waste of time (take it from one who knows).

I adore it!! Very entertaining, I laugh out loud constantly on it and also find it a very positive place. Apparently it responds very quickly to what you interact with. I love that I don’t know anyone and nobody will be offended if I just watch n scroll. Also, use the For You stream rather than who you follow. Enjoy! Oh and wave goodbye to HOURS in your day 😅

I just mindlessly scroll. I assume it knows what I like as I keep getting stuff about teenagers and mothers 😀 And some handsome guys dancing for some reason But I won't even open it if I don't have an hour to spare

I joined out of curiosity - not posted anything - and there seems to be a lot of pointless crap. I have noticed a few funny videos and some cultured ones, e.g. book recommendations.

It's clearly not just for teenagers given the amount of older people making videos on it. And the odd celebrity. I think it's one of those things that's wasted on the young tbh

Ooh I forgot! True crime tiktok are very interesting. There are lots of interesting female historians on tiktok too.

I'm 52 and hell would freeze over before I let age interfere with my interests and hobbies. What an awful way to live

Don't be silly it isn't just for teenagers. No more than Instagram or facebook (which started off as popular with younger people then spread to everyone) are just for teens. I watch comedy stuff, cooking, psychology, cleaning, ASMR, book recommendations, travel etc. No teens dancing on my tiktok as it responds to what I like and when I joined I told it my age!

I watch dance videos; I love watching different people and groups taking on the new trends - they’re really quite clever.

I also watch lots of baby and toddler videos - anything from babies just being cute and funny to child psychologist and behaviourist parenting tips.

The algorithm is really good - it gets to know what you like quite quickly and changes with you. Didn’t watch any baby videos before I had one 😂

I also like Laurie Cealy. She did a trip around Scotland in her Fiat 500 and recently went on a canal boat holiday. The travel videos are fantastic.

I don't have it, but my brother sends me stuff from there. Some of it is funny. But it is probably a time suck like all social media, and I finally deleted Facebook and Instagram etc so I'm not getting on there.
