I thought I'd create a new thread so it's easier to find the update.

She was woken up from the sedation this morning, which went well apparently. I saw her this afternoon and she's doing really, really well. Still in ICU for the moment but they'll be moving her tomorrow.

I can only see her for an hour a day which is so, so hard. But COVID rules are there for a reason.

You and your lovely DD have been in my thoughts today. You must be so so relieved. Look after yourself, I hope her recovery continues to go from strength to strength. ThanksThanksThanks

Thewishingchair123 · 05/09/2021 22:02

I’m so glad to read your positive update. Look after yourself.

JackOfGentleman · 05/09/2021 22:02

Thank you everyone, it's a huge relief.

We're going to get private psychiatric care for her. I didn't know but the ITU dr told me that she had cut marks on her wrists and tops of her thighs, he estimated 2-3 days old. I feel like a terrible mother - how could I have missed those?? Why didn't I see this coming??

I have to say - the ITU staff have been absolutely fantastic. Outstanding in every way possible.

She hid it from you, you can't blame yourself for this x

Fishocado · 05/09/2021 22:39

@Christmasfairy2020 pretty morbid to ask details like that and MNHQ have already deleted the medication name due to the dangers it possesses to share information like that.

mineofuselessinformation · 05/09/2021 22:42

@JackOfGentleman, my oldest DC has a whole lower arm full of scars.
I didn't know about them when the self-harm was active. People who are self-harming are very good at hiding it. That you didn't know about your DD is definitely not your fault - you would hardly strip-search her in the normal run of things.
Seriously, give yourself a break. You are clearly a very loving mother, otherwise you wouldn't be posting in the way that you have.
I know that you and your DD have some hurdles ahead of you. It's going to be a challenging time for both of you, so I hope you have some support you can call on.

MrsRockAndRoll · 05/09/2021 22:47

Try to be kind to yourself,

Hadenoughcrap2 · 05/09/2021 22:50

Honestly you can't think you should have known at all. She's an adult - you can't be permanently looking all over her body. There are more parents struggling with young adults than you would ever imagine. People just don't talk about it unless they have to. There will be so many people reading this thread thinking it could so easily be them. It might take time but you will both come through this.
RampantIvy · 05/09/2021 22:55

@mineofuselessinformation is right. My DD was self harming at 14 and 15. It was a shock to find out. As far as I know she hasn't self harmed for several years.

I'm so glad to read your update @JackOfGentleman. I hope your DD receives the help she needs Flowers

LadyEloise1 · 05/09/2021 23:08

Thank you for the update and so glad it's good news. Thanks

Dontjudgeme101 · 05/09/2021 23:10

Really pleased for you op.Please don’t beat yourself up about the self harming.
As someone said, people who self harm are very good at hiding it. 💐💐💐
