Does Bach Rescue Remedy work?

Just that, really. I have a difficult occasion coming up and want to not dissolve in tears if I can help it. Was thinking of buying the spray. TIA.

I'm not sure how much is placebo but I have found it helpful in the past! I failed my first driving test because I was shaking so much I couldn't hold the clutch down (nervous being tested, not nervous driver!) and took rescue remedy for my next test and passed easily!

BertieBotts · 05/09/2021 17:10

It's homeopathic, so technically no, but it works quite well for me and DS1. It might be one of those "placebos work even if you know it's a placebo" thing.

BabbleBee · 05/09/2021 17:11

It works for me, don’t care if it’s placebo or not! As do Kalms.

I swear it works in my pet for trips to the vet, much less shaking in the carrier! I like the melts as well as the spray as your can discretely pop one in your mouth. A psychologist told me to tense my pelvic muscles if I felt tearful, seems to help. Someone on here suggested pressing your tongue into the roof of your mouth to prevent tears, tried that one recently, got asked if I was okay as I looked a bit funny, so probably give that one a miss!
Hope the occasion isn’t too distressing for you.

SeriouslyISuppose · 05/09/2021 18:54

No, total snake oil, OP. What kind of difficult is your occasion? I’ ve found beta blockers useful in the past.

purplesequins · 05/09/2021 19:00

no, they don't have any active ingredients in them. you might just as well suck on a boiled sweet.

the placebo effect is powerful though and might be enough to get you through.

Fauvist · 05/09/2021 19:00

I think its basically brandy! Maybe a hip flask?!

gordongrumpy · 05/09/2021 19:03

As above, placebos work.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 05/09/2021 19:04

I've tried the drops and the sweets.

Placebo effect.

Farfalle88 · 05/09/2021 19:04

Yes it does.

BeHereNowx32 · 05/09/2021 19:05

@MrsLCSofLichfield Kalms work for me when I’m feeling a bit anxious or emotional.

Three0fivepointfour · 05/09/2021 19:06

Yes, it’s either the placebo effect or the brandy. Now I just buy a decent brandy and have a teaspoon of that but my DC whose 13 likes the Bach stuff.

Lollypop701 · 05/09/2021 19:06

Chewing gum is great

twilightcafe · 05/09/2021 19:07

It's brandy!

NeverTalkToStrangers · 05/09/2021 19:08

If ever there was a situation in which a safe and (relatively) cheap placebo was worth trying then this is it. I like the one with the dropper - the ritual of counting out the drops on your tongue makes it work better than just sucking a pastille for me.

hamptonedge · 05/09/2021 19:11

It has got my adult daughter through many events in her life- exams, driving test, emigration etc. She is convinced that it works and thats good enough for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Brissiegirl · 05/09/2021 19:14

Found it great for all 3 of my kids during exam time. Calming enough to go from virtually unable to pass their kicks from nerves to acing their exams - its cheap, natural and works for so many people. Definitely worth a try and preferable to beta blockers any day imo

ISpyCobraKai · 05/09/2021 19:14

I've never used it, but I thought it had alcohol in it so possibly could word?

Tana433 · 05/09/2021 19:15

I use it a lot if i have to go somewhere that is crowded because i panic (always have, nothing to do with covid) I dont know if it really works or if it is just pyschclogical but does it really matter if it allows me to continue my day?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/09/2021 19:18

It's brandy!

And therefore it works.

helpfulperson · 05/09/2021 19:22

Despite understanding all the reasons why it shouldn't work it worked for me. For around a fiver a bottle it's worth a go.

Ekofisk · 05/09/2021 20:03

@Fauvist

I think its basically brandy! Maybe a hip flask?!
It’s brandy Jim, but not as we know it - used to be bloody rough stuff that was shipped in big plastic barrels.
Totallydefeated · 05/09/2021 20:08

I find it helpful for taking anxiety down a few notches and making everything cope-able with.

Compared to the side effects of medication and the need to arrange and attend a GP appointment to get any (no mean feat), I think you can’t go wrong in trying it. It’s not particularly expensive, so why not give it a whirl.

MrsSugar · 05/09/2021 20:11

I’m my experience no it doesn’t work, could work got others as a placebo maybe ? Kalms also doesn’t work. I could chomp them down like smarties and no effect whatsoever

BertieBotts · 05/09/2021 20:35

It's brandy yes but you take about five drops so I doubt it's the alcohol having any effect.
