Stilton, pear & rocket. Just had for my lunch. Yum.

Other ‘gourmet’ cheese sarnies…..

Wensleydale, carrot and apple

Brie and grape

Red Leicester grated and mixed with mayo and purple spring onions

If it really must be cheddar, then it has to be strong vintage stuff, with a fancy tomato or plum relish

Any other cheese snobs?

I’ve googled cheese savoury and it sounds pretty similar to a cheese and coleslaw sandwich which - on tiger bread is pretty fucking awesome.
I am also pretty partial to a blue cheese with pear and rocket as mentioned by the op.
Brie and a naice chutney.

BillinaTheChickenQueen · 04/09/2021 16:38

Marks and sparks used to a really lovely cheese sandwich, it was Wensleydale and a carrots chutney. It must have been discontinued though because it is no where to be seen.

The newsagent at the top of Northumberland St in Newcastle used to do AMAZING cheese savoury stotties when I was a student Halo

Absolutely not gourmet but cheese savoury .. can never find it outside of the north east though.
Greggs used to do it as a sandwich filling in the NW - not sure whether they still do.
Bobmonkfish · 04/09/2021 16:47

I would eat and love literally all of these including the spread cheese one. (Did anyone eat that chive squirty cheese in the 80s?).

I will throw in a cheese and ham baguette, and rarebit (I know this is not technically a sandwich).

LargeBouquet · 04/09/2021 16:47
@NofuPancake I hear you -- my DH is a cheesemonger. Processed cheeses are the work of the devil apparently...
I have several cheese producer friends, and I love good cheese, but retain a guilty, low-grade liking for a thin, dry mass-produced sandwich of cheap white bread, a scrape of butter and a thin layer of processed cheese.

SpacePug · 04/09/2021 17:08

Brie and mango chutney on white baguette 🤤

dreamingbohemian · 04/09/2021 17:21

@LargeBouquet me too, I tell DH I can't help it, I'm American :)

I have no such excuse! I come from a part of Ireland with lots of famous artisan cheeses. Let's start a club called the Low Cheese Tastes, and meet in secret to surreptitiously eat cheap cheese sandwiches on park benches.

Mulletsaremisunderstood · 04/09/2021 17:32

High brow: brie and sliced tomato with black pepper on toasted sourdough, or on toasted brown bread. Seriously yum.

Low brow: cheese toastie in the breville thingy, with cheap sliced bread and cheap sliced cheese. Melted cheese is one of the greatest things ever.

HeronLanyon · 04/09/2021 17:37

The first cheese salad storied I ever had decades ago in Newcastle.
Dry manchego bocadillo from small bar in central Ibiza - each time I’m there I’m worried it will have gone but there it is and there they are.
Other than that I too prefer cheese away from bread - a cracker or grapes.
I’m now hungry.

HeronLanyon · 04/09/2021 17:38

‘Stottie’ not ‘storied’

Jackofallsorts · 04/09/2021 17:39

Crisp back bacon with Irish or Danish blue cheese on toasted bread.

TheDivineOddity · 04/09/2021 17:40

Sliced white bread (ordinary not fancy) generously spread with butter topped with mature cheddar sliced off the block.
Cut into four squares with big cup of tea.
Absolute heaven.

LemonViolet · 04/09/2021 17:45

Oh mango chutney is an excellent call

Wouldn’t be MN if someone a cheese appreciation thread saying they hate all cheese Grin thanks for not disappointing!

Mango chutney on a good cottage cheese like Longley Farm is delicious. But on oat biscuits so not, strictly speaking, a sandwich.

HeronLanyon · 04/09/2021 17:55

I bloody love any good cheese on a rough oatcake. Hard soft blue goats mild strong - absolute best thing ever.

HeronLanyon · 04/09/2021 17:55

Including dairylea or laughing cow.

IntermittentParps · 04/09/2021 18:22

Two words.
Tuna.
Melt.

Pandoraslastchance · 04/09/2021 18:25

Extra mature cheddar, baked beans, sweetcorn and spam in a cheese toasty machine!!! On cheap white bread!!

Dee1975 · 04/09/2021 18:26

@Babyroobs

M&S Wensleydale with carrot chutney.
Another vote here as well. Often my Friday lunch treat :-) !
rosegoldwatcher · 04/09/2021 18:32

The best seller at my college cafe, back in the early 80s was a crusty roll with (bog standard) cheddar and Branston pickle. Superb - especially if one had got up too late for breakfast!

These days my recipe is good white bread, proper butter, grated mature cheddar with grated carrot, aeoli and lime pickle.

Sainsbury's does cheese savoury in tubs and in their premade sandwiches.
seriousandloyal · 04/09/2021 18:43

I would enjoy any of the above! Best thread ever! My personal favourites would be a lovely greasy grilled cheese, cheese savoury on soft white baguette or a ploughmans with salt and vinegar crisps. Cheese is life!

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 04/09/2021 18:46

All the people who like onion in sandwiches, my stomach doesn't like it.
