What the F just came out of me?!

Posting for traffic.
Name change because people know my username.
Calling any medical professional! OBs, Gynaecologists, Drs!
I'm 6.5 weeks post partum after elective c section. Bled normally, it began to tail off around 4 weeks. I then had a large blood clot pass and bleeding increased to constant steady flow like a heavy period. OB prescribed hemastan for 3 days. The bleeding then started up again.
A couple of days ago it began to lighten then yesterday I passed an enormous spongey-textured lump. Its about the size of a large new potato, and was solid and kept its shape, not jelly like like previous blood clots. I sent a pic to my in who said she thought it was a blood clot.
BTW, I haven't been able to go see her in person because I. Caught covid almost 3 weeks ago (coincidentally, the bleeding ramped up when I got covid- could it be related?)
She has advised hemastan and iron tablets.
Bleeding has continued.
I'm not sure I can post the photo or if my post will get deleted? I'm so over it now!
Any ideas wtf it was?

Some women have reported having had odd periods after the COVID vaccination; heavier, earlier, longer etc

Could it be that your cycle has been disrupted, after actually having COVID and you are having an “earlier” heavy period (that has started shortly after the postnatal bleeding)

It does sound like a large clot. If you are changing your pads hourly, pass any more clots larger than a 50p coin, feel dizzy, or notice a strange odour from the bleeding, go straight to A&E.

SheepDogTed · 04/09/2021 02:11

You realise people will be clicking on this to see the photo? You won't get deleted - one of the wonderful things about this site is being able to share the things you're too embarrassed in real life. It's surprising how much people learn from each other in the process too.
It sounds as though you've had a rotten few weeks. Hope you feel better soon. Post the photo and get some reassurance or support at least.

Whatcameoutofme · 04/09/2021 02:57

OK, photo attached. Sorry if it makes anyone ill!

I think this may be a decidual cast? Nothing to worry about if so. Either that or a large clot but as you say it’s more solid than jelly like I think a decidual cast might be what’s happening here.

Starface · 04/09/2021 03:34

Looks like a clot to me (layperson). I passed something similar like a bit of liver at maybe 4 weeks post partum. I was checked over via ultrasound at 6 weeks, just in case they needed to do a d & c for retained products. My conclusion in the end was that it was blood pooling in the crevices of my body, which are more significant with each child I've had.

Stay alive to signs of sepsis though, infection is always a risk.

UrbanRambler · 04/09/2021 03:42

OMG, sorry to be flippant but to me that looks like a severed dog's head... black labrador. Shock Obviously it's not, but the shape...

Seriously, I can see why you're concerned, it seems like something you ought to raise with your HV or GP. Aside from this, if you're feeling well and no further things like this emerge, it's probably what Kylie said in the PP. I hope it all resolves itself soon.

MaxiPaddy · 04/09/2021 03:56

Just to reassure, I literally came here for the gross photo (sporner's corner would love this shit).

Hope you feel better, though, OP.

KeyWorker · 04/09/2021 07:11

Please stay alert for any signs of sepsis. Feeling flu-like, cold, sweaty, achy ect. Anything other that 100% well and ring the GP ASAP and tell them you’re concerned about retained products. To be honest, I think you should be seen in person today. Don’t let them fob you off because of COVID.

Raindancer411 · 04/09/2021 07:44

I passed a massive clot straight after birth (was on a drip to stop bleeding as I haemorrhaged with first they think, although the other hospital never told me). It was as big as my babies head and scared the daylights out of me!! Midwives weren't worried but I would just try and get checked out for peace of mind.

EatSprayGlove · 04/09/2021 07:45

I had to go in to be scanned for retained products for a much smaller clot than this at 6wks pp after similar stop start bleeding so I would get checked. I was fine, turned out of had a period and was already ovulating again.

RoseAndGeranium · 04/09/2021 08:13

Chunk of retained placenta? Can that happen?
Could you send pic to GP/OB?

GoodnightGrandma · 04/09/2021 08:15

I had a decidual cast and wondered what the hell it was !
The last time we had a thread on this it was deleted, but I found it educational. I finally discovered what had happened to me.

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 04/09/2021 08:24

This happened to me and it was some placenta. The night before it came out I felt hot and had contraction type pains. I was still bleeding but it was very very light and it stopped once it came out.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 04/09/2021 08:26

I was thinking a bit of placenta too

Theunamedcat · 04/09/2021 08:30

I passed a bit of umbilical cord it was a strange bluish green colour 😳 the doctors weren't too concerned but I fucking was!

Noreturnto · 04/09/2021 08:34

I used to gets clots. ..mine were much smoother than that

itsgettingwierd · 04/09/2021 08:38

Why can't you be seen f2f if you caught covid 10 days ago? Isolation is 10 days.

Agree keep an eye on signs of sepsis but if your bleeding heavily on and off of want them to be scanning or doing an internal.

LouLou198 · 04/09/2021 08:41

Hi op, I had exactly the same 6 weeks post partum. I had an emergency c section. I was still bleeding at 6 weeks, then felt this strange dragging feeling when I stood up from the toilet and passed something very similar, about same size too. It felt quite firm and didn't seem like a clot. After it had passed the bleeding stopped! I was obviously very alarmed at the time, and kept it in an old take away tub in case I became unwell and needed to go to hospital! I was fine though and it didn't happen again.

Singingtherapy · 04/09/2021 08:42

OP I really think you need to be seen. I haven't practised for years but I am a qualified midwife. I'd have definitely referred a client back to hospital with a clot that size!

Helspopje · 04/09/2021 08:44

Y - I’d go to be seen
That’s a chunky bit of tissue and the increase in bleeding could be related to something gynae but equally lots of people get low counts after Covid so your platelet count should be checked imho

SlothMamaToBe · 04/09/2021 08:53

OP - midwife here, that looks like a bit of placenta and you definitely need to get checked out. Try and save it if you can to take with you to triage. I would call them now , they may need to do a scan to check for any other bits of retained placenta.

uggmum · 04/09/2021 09:13

I passed something which looks identical to this when I was 2 weeks post partum

I fished it out of the toilet and kept it to show my midwife.

She said it was a large clot.

wheresmymojo · 04/09/2021 09:24

I just came for the grossness but...listen to the midwives on here. Better to get checked out than miss something and end up with an infection or sepsis...

TwinsJan22 · 04/09/2021 09:24

Midwife here. That’s looks like a piece of placenta. You need to go and get checked out!

Whatcameoutofme · 04/09/2021 12:07

Thank you all
I'm very concerned by the suggestions that it could be a piece of placenta. I will be seeing my OB for an ultrasound on Tuesday. I feel fine so I think I can wait until then. I really appreciate everyone's serious suggestions and this not becoming a joke gorish thread! I'm also relieved that I'm not the only one who has had a scary experience similar to this! Just when you think your body is getting back to normal, this happens! Blush
