Posting for traffic.
Name change because people know my username.
Calling any medical professional! OBs, Gynaecologists, Drs!
I'm 6.5 weeks post partum after elective c section. Bled normally, it began to tail off around 4 weeks. I then had a large blood clot pass and bleeding increased to constant steady flow like a heavy period. OB prescribed hemastan for 3 days. The bleeding then started up again.
A couple of days ago it began to lighten then yesterday I passed an enormous spongey-textured lump. Its about the size of a large new potato, and was solid and kept its shape, not jelly like like previous blood clots. I sent a pic to my in who said she thought it was a blood clot.
BTW, I haven't been able to go see her in person because I. Caught covid almost 3 weeks ago (coincidentally, the bleeding ramped up when I got covid- could it be related?)
She has advised hemastan and iron tablets.
Bleeding has continued.
I'm not sure I can post the photo or if my post will get deleted? I'm so over it now!
Any ideas wtf it was?

Another midwife here and I agree with others...looks like placenta. I don't actually think you should wait until Tuesdah though, if you have more in there it could cause significantly increased bleeding or infection. I would call your OB or the hospital today and try to be seen.

Tooembarrassingtomention · 04/09/2021 12:32

Placenta- I delivered something the size of a large orange about a week after birth. Had scans etc to check nothing else

OmgIcantbelieveshedidit · 04/09/2021 12:47

You need to be seen now. I passed something like that and ignored it and 12 hours later was on the bedroom floor with a high temperature and infection. Taken to a and e and was under a ga for removal of stuff and then a few weeks recovering in hospital. Don’t ignore it.

Hope you can be seen soon and all goes well, OP. Wanted to say thanks as this thread has been educational!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 04/09/2021 13:50

I had the same and it was retained placenta Needed a D&C under GA and strong antibiotics for 2 weeks
I'd get it checked ASAP due to infection risk

GarnetsandRubies · 04/09/2021 13:52

I am also just here to see the minging pic Grin when I was 2 weeks post partum with my first I was standing in the shower when a golf ball sized clot fell to the shower floor. GP said it was fine!

Best safe to get checked. Could you email your GP or HV a photo?

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 04/09/2021 13:52

If it feels gritty when you rub it between your fingers (or toilet roll) it’s placenta

endofthelinefinally · 04/09/2021 13:55

That looks like placental tissue. Agree with pp saying you need to be seen asap.

DeadButDelicious · 04/09/2021 13:57

Another voice saying placenta. I had terrible trouble with retained products after my first daughter, and the bits of placenta coming away looked very like that. Best to get it checked out ASAP.

CovidCorvid · 04/09/2021 14:01

Another midwife saying bit of placenta. Please get checked out. Especially as bleeding sounds possibly heavier than expected for over 6 week’s postpartum.

LoislovesStewie · 04/09/2021 14:17

I had a chunk of placenta that looked just like that. I was told not to worry; so naturally I did, but all was OK. Best to get it checked though.

SlothMamaToBe · 04/09/2021 20:06

Please don’t wait OP call your maternity unit now. You will need to start on antibiotics as at high risk of infection .

Doorhandleghost · 04/09/2021 23:14

I had the same although about 4 weeks after birth - it was a bit of retained placenta. Deffo don’t delay - I called my GP as it happened kind of first thing in the morning and she sent me immediately to the maternity unit, who did an internal exam and prescribed some v strong antibiotics. I’d had persistent and bad bleeding immediately after birth that stopped just as they were discussing taking me to theatre to see what was going on.

crabb · 13/09/2021 09:58

What happened in the end @Whatcameoutofme? Are you OK?

BillyJoe111 · 13/09/2021 10:17

I passed a few of these a few weeks after ds1 was born (19 years ago). I was also cold, shivery, had to sleep under two duvets and a dressing gown and was still shivering, white as a sheet. It lasted 4 days/nights. High temp.

I called the GP who told me to stop moaning and take some paracetamol (yea, really!!)

I don’t know how I didn’t develop sepsis and die Shock
