What's the nicest smelling washing powder?

I accept that this is possibly the most inane question I've ever asked in my life, but what's the nicest smelling washing power/ fabric softener? I've used eco stuff for years and it smells of nothing, or even a bit foosty. When my neighbour washes her stuff I can smell it from across her large garden (I don't feel like I can ask her without looking like an idiot). I don't air dry my stuff and I'd like to buy something that has a nice/ lasting smell even after tumble drying. TIA

The method lavender one smells really good if you want to remain a bit eco friendly (I’m a bit sceptical of how eco friendly the plastic bottle is personally).

Otherwise I like Surf, the pink one.

TunnelOfGoats · 01/09/2021 08:49

I have recently been converted to the Bold 2 in 1 gels, and really love what they smell of. Plus, just 1 bottle required, so cheaper and less waste plastic. The pink one is my favourite, but have also tried the purple one and it is nice too. The smell lasts on stored clothes too

Don’t have a favourite washing liquid but my favourite fabric softener is comfort intense luxurious. Smells amazing.

Yes I use the pink surf it has a lovely smell. It. Might be your neighbour uses a nice fabric softener and that's what you are smelling or scent boosters.

RuthTopp · 01/09/2021 08:52

Can I ask why you don't air dry ? I've assumed you are able to as you say your neighbour does.
I think your fusty smell could be down to drying indoors and perhaps your putting it away whilst not 100% dry. During the spring / summer I always dry outdoors and try to as much as possible into the autumn as well, as I think it gives a much fresher smell.
When it comes to nice smell products I use fairy washing powder , and usually whatever Comfort or Or not had on offer , although I do like the yellow bottle Lenor.

Beautifulday345 · 01/09/2021 08:59

Depends what smell you like, I only like fairy tabs with comfort pure. Hate surf and fruity smells but others do

MichaelGovesBeard · 01/09/2021 09:00

I’d just ask your neighbour what she uses. I’ve done that before. I dont mean knock on the door and ask, just casually ask him/her if you see them.

belhaven · 01/09/2021 09:01

I love Fairy Non Bio and no fabric softener (just white vinegar - doesn't smell!)

groundcontroltomontydon · 01/09/2021 09:39

Maybe cross Method tropical coconut off your list - I had high hopes for it but the smell is cloying and overpowering (and it's really expensive!)

Inthesameboatatmo · 01/09/2021 09:41

Ariel detergent and lenor softener combination is what will get the laundry smelling good for days .

Boatintheocean · 01/09/2021 09:53

Fairy non bio tablets and fabric conditioner is my winning combination. Smells even better if you put it on the line.

Wellysock · 01/09/2021 09:55

@belhaven what does the white vinegar do?

Tirediam · 01/09/2021 09:56

I used the Tesco lavender liquid that you put in the cap and then lenor ruby jasmine. I just breathe it all in for ages when I’ve just done a load of washing

VetInAVat · 01/09/2021 09:56

Smol Green tabs and no softener.

ssd · 01/09/2021 09:57

Comfort sunshine days fabric conditioner, yellow

BigPyjamas · 01/09/2021 10:00

No washing powder recommendations, I just buy whatever's on offer, but can I say @surlycurly that you're the first person I've heard in a long time that says foosty. I love the word and use it regularly Grin

MrsFlinch · 01/09/2021 11:34

I use Persil bio liquid and comfort pure(the white one with the baby on it) at the moment and always smells nice out of the tumble dryer.
I’ve tried many other combinations but keep going back to this.

If your washing is smelling a bit musty, have you cleaned your machine out recently as I find this happens when my machine is due a deep clean.

GrouchyKiwi · 01/09/2021 11:38

Bold 2-in-1 lavender and camomile. And then line dry. Delicious.

Willowthewispp · 01/09/2021 11:44

Fairy wash powder and I recently really like the morrisons lavender softener..

Words · 01/09/2021 11:51

Waitrose jasmine and cedar wood fabric conditioner. Yet to find a pleasant smelling washing powder.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/09/2021 11:53

Ariel cold wash liquid, I don't use fabric softener.

MrsPumpkinSeed · 01/09/2021 11:54

I use lidl powder and its lovely. But the scent boosters are really strong smelling if you try those. The little pearls.

MustBeThin · 01/09/2021 11:56

My all time favourite combo is Surf detergent in the scent Tropical Lilly and the Lenor Outdoorable fabric softener in the scent Spring Awake.

HopeHappy · 01/09/2021 12:17

I love Comfort Strawberry & Lily fabric softener. Can be quite strong scented so you don't need much. I can smell it all day, which is more than can be said for my very expensive perfume!

The reason is that you have been using the same powder for a long time and no longer notice it. I can't smell Persil.

If you get two or three different ones, and use them alternately, you will be able to smell them.
