Interesting date night

Have name changed for this.
Anniversary meal, we book a restaurant that we've been to before. Arrive to find a paper menu with 5 choices. Ask if thats the menu and told yes. So we order, no starters or anything available. Husband asked afterwards and they said that there is only one chef working, so it's a limited menu.
We finished our meal and dining experience in an hour (no atmosphere at all).
Go to the local for a drink, which is busy. Listen to the pub quiz, which we're rubbish at. The person who wrote the questions thought it was appropriate to have one about the Taliban Confused.
Can't get a taxi anywhere within a 5 mile radius so end up walking home for 2 hours.

Happy Anniversary to us! Grin
So glad to be home with a cuppa!

So what’s the point of your post?

Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 00:17

It's a chat forum.
What's the point of your question?

Is it not appropriate to have a question about the Taliban?

Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 00:22

I dint think so, not in a pub quiz! I mean, there's lots of other news topics you could ask about.

Christ OP I'd have a whisky chaser with that tea if I were you.

At least the weather was warm for your two hour walk home?
Oh and you burnt off your dinner so can indulge in a nice cake/steak/bottle of vino tomorrow Smile

bonfireheart · 29/08/2021 00:28

Awww at least it'll be one to remember!
Was the meal nice though?
Is the taxi issue usual for the location?
Tiredness is a good excuse to snuggle up :)

Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 00:28

We definitely burnt off dinner.
Plus it was great walking weather and I wore flats, so win win!

Sometimes, nights out just don't go how you expect them to Grin

The next one will be better OP
Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 00:30

The meal was nice, but obviously not enough because husband ordered a starter in the pub after the meal!
The taxi thing has never been an issue for this area, hence not booking one.
I think its probably nice weather / bank Holiday that could be the reason.

I'm driving on the next night out! Grin

@MrsEricBana

Is it not appropriate to have a question about the Taliban?
Yeah not sure why it’s inappropriate either
Peakypolly · 29/08/2021 00:52

I bet you remember this anniversary longer than a typical evening that is perfectly 'nice'.

bonfireheart · 29/08/2021 00:56

How long have you been together OP?

NiceGerbil · 29/08/2021 02:38

Well it's memorable anyway!

I agree OP that a question about the taleban at the moment in a pub quiz is really odd. Not a great time to have an ongoing humanitarian crisis brought to mind in something presumably meant to be fun!

What was the question?

Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 07:49

The question itself wasn't bad:

"Which country have the Taliban just taken hold of?"

It was more the enthusiastic way it was asked and the added, "you should all get this question," on the end. Maybe inappropriate was the wrong word, more insensitive I'd say.

Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 07:50

@bonfireheart 10 years.

OP posts:
cushioncovers · 29/08/2021 07:51

Yeah taliban question was inappropriate.

Happy anniversary Smile

Marni83 · 29/08/2021 07:54

One chef? They could h e closer up for the night instead they improvised and 5 dishes is actually pretty decent.

However what they should have done is given you a buzz to update you so that you knew in advance and could then decide if suitable for you.

Marni83 · 29/08/2021 07:57

And surely that Taliban question was just about the easiest pub quiz question I have ever heard!

Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 07:58

@Marni83 yes agreed, it was an impressive meal for one chef!
There were 3 couples in total when we were there. It's a popular place, so it was unusual to see it so empty.

OP posts:
Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 07:59

@Marni83 thats why he added on the end, you should all get this one (as if it was a good thing!)

OP posts:
Marni83 · 29/08/2021 08:01

Why did you name change out of interest?

Ohwhatanight123 · 29/08/2021 08:03

I didnt want to be recognised, as its a silly post really. Smile
I was just up last night and thought I'd put it on chat.

OP posts:
Deathraystare · 29/08/2021 08:04

At least the menu was paper. I cannot stand ordering on a phone (well, I don't, it is a more tech savvy friend that does!).

Letthelightoflove · 29/08/2021 08:05

I don’t see that the taliban question was inappropriate. It’s just a current affairs question.
Sorry you had a rubbish night.
