the last couple of weeks we had a few people trying to pick up the key for an air b&b
clearly something was wrong in the instructions.

When I was small I answered the door to 2 men who had escaped from a prison van, although we didn't realise that until the police helicopter came over and they ran off.....

Blueroses99 · 27/08/2021 19:29

My garden furniture turned up today. I was expecting it on 15th June! The retailer have been blaming their ‘trusted partner’ and delivery company for lack of information about when, or even if, it might turn up. Wonder if I should let them know I’ve got it 🤔

purplesequins · 27/08/2021 19:30

my parents always got slightly seedy visitors who got roads mixed up (like elms street and oak road)

A firemen, wanting to head upstairs to climb out onto our roof from the top bedroom of our student house. The house two doors down was ablaze and one of the occupants had climbed onto next door’s roof to escape.

An ambulance crew early one Sunday morning (we were still in bed) when we hadn't called them.

Thankfully we quickly worked out where they should be.

There was a knock on our door at 2am last November, opened the door to see next doors house (uninhabited at the time) up in flames and the entire street outside. Grabbed my daughter and ran barefeet in my pj's to an in laws house nearby. Turns out it was a whole dodgy thing with to do with claiming insurance on the property.

ShowMeHow · 27/08/2021 19:34

I opened the door last year during lockdown to two men all in black and wearing black face masks they had a huge set of pliers and said ‘we’ve come for the alive or dead check’

(They needed the next street along and were about to check the gas supply)

A man coming to mend the front door. Presumed the landlord had sent him (as we had reported the lock sticking...) it was only after he finished we realised he had the wrong address.

Another time... man came to check the loft for asbestos. (Again sent by landlord...). We had no loft.

Previous owners estranged sister who didn't believe house had been sold. Pissed out if her tree or high on something and got very verbally aggressive and then very emotional when we wouldn't let her in. Called the police in the end as seemed like she needed some help. Then got a huge bloody gate put on the front a few weeks later Wink

purplesequins · 27/08/2021 19:38

oh we had a very elderly previous occupant as well.
he liked how we decorated the place Smile

A man knocked at the door and demanded that I show him my tits for an official survey. It turned out to be a scam. I felt so stupid.

Theunamedcat · 27/08/2021 19:41

I've just had some blokes food show up he doesn't live here never has no clue who he is the poor delivery guy wandered off up the road knocking on doors

50ShadesOfCatholic · 27/08/2021 19:42

Love the escaped prisoners! Were they hoping you'd offer shelter?! 😂

RainyDay2020 · 27/08/2021 19:44

A cat - still no idea how he rang the doorbell as there was definitely no person there?!

SedentaryCat · 27/08/2021 19:44

Bailiffs. Oh and a loan shark.

Both for the previous owners who left a lot of debt.

Sewaccidentprone · 27/08/2021 19:45

Man knocked on door. My van has got stuck trying to get up your hill with a large log on a trailer. Am I ok to leave the trailer (with said very large log) outside your house so I can come back with my brother tomorrow and sort it out.

And do you have any bricks we could borrow to put behind the wheels just in case?

Pigletpoglet · 27/08/2021 19:47

An off duty police officer with a gaping head wound. He had spotted someone trying to steal a car, chased them, fell and split his head open. Our door was the first house with a light on.

belimoo · 27/08/2021 19:50

Woman at the door asking for help to extract the pheasant from the grille of her car which she'd hit as she was driving past our house. Explained to my dad as he went out to help that she didn't live in the countryside and therefore didn't know how to deal with these kinds of things... My dad was of course a professional pheasant extractor.

absolutelynotcalm · 27/08/2021 19:50

A woman who I had never met and didn't know with 2 children around age 5/6 asking me if I could watch her children for a few hours while she went shopping.

AlbertBridge · 27/08/2021 19:50

An ex-boyfriend from my teenage years once turned up at my parents' house, desperately needing a poo.

He was in the downstairs loo for ages, stank out the house, then vanished.

😂

SweatyBetty20 · 27/08/2021 19:50

A neighbour asking if I had any visitors who drove a Renault Clio as the handbrake wasn’t on and it rolled down the lane and into his car. Not guilty.

Theunamedcat · 27/08/2021 19:52

A friend of mine had a knock on her door looked out to see a man in a wheelchair in the middle of her gravel driveway (have you ever tried pushing a wheelchair through gravel you will know why it was surprising) he said wrong house? Umm yes? What?

Splann · 27/08/2021 19:54

I had a man knock on the door a few weeks ago asking if it he could park in my drive. He offered me £20 as he couldn’t find parking in town. I told him no as I needed the access that day and (sadly) he just moved his car. I was hoping for a good CF parking scenario, but he turned out to be a frustrated but fairly reasonable visitor to our very popular seaside town with limited parking Hmm

In my old life (in a big city) we had the police knocking at the door asking if they could hide in our back garden to stop the next door neighbours son making a run for it.

Theunamedcat · 27/08/2021 19:54

The best one was when cars had key locks pre central locking and some girls hammered on the door asking if we could try our car key on there car as the toddler had locked himself in the car surprisingly with a bit of jiggling it worked

Our next car had more security

During lockdown we ordered a special takeaway from a nice restaurant for our wedding anniversary. It was quite expensive and we had to order it in advance. It turned up a week early which was a surprise! We let them know they had got the date wrong and they said we could keep it and they would speak to the manager about a refund. Restaurant manager phoned us to apologise and sent it all again on the right date without charging us along with a bottle of wine as an apology!
