the last couple of weeks we had a few people trying to pick up the key for an air b&b
clearly something was wrong in the instructions.

A stranger knocked on my door to tell me an old lady had fallen in the bush in the front garden and was stuck. She was very posh and drunk. She left a hole in the bush and was very apologetic. She went off down the street with leaves and twigs in her hair.

My parents opened the door to a man who said he was undercover police from the local station and they were carrying out surveillance on the house across the road. He asked if he could come in and watch the house from their upstairs bedroom window........they said no and shut the door. My parents rang the local police station and they confirmed they knew nothing about it.

MrsPear · 27/08/2021 22:43

I opened the door to the police yesterday. That was a surprise.

Years ago I lived in a rented flat ad the buzzer would go regularly- always men asking for sugar. I’m guessing she was a prostitute - as I was asked a couple of times if I was working instead 🤣

A bare footed women with a flowing dress and hair to match, holding a box and said “I have the crystals” Grin

Cherrysoup · 27/08/2021 23:03

A woman who I had never met and didn't know with 2 children around age 5/6 asking me if I could watch her children for a few hours while she went shopping.

Bloody hell! Did you tell her how awful she was?

Wowcherarestalkingme · 27/08/2021 23:18

The road I live on has been replaced with a new road that runs parallel to the old one so it looks a bit like a lay-by just outside my house.
Someone knocked one day and asked if he could run a cable into my house and use my electricity so he could set up a hand car wash and valeting business in the lay-by. He would pay. Erm, no.

chitchatchatter · 27/08/2021 23:34

Four large crates of fresh fish. The delivery man just left them on the doorstep, rang the bell and left without waiting for me to answer.

Turns out they wanted MyRoadNameClose and not MyRoadNameAvenue where I lived.

I never did quite work out just what they were going to do with all that fish...

My nan. This was unusual as it was 10 o' clock at night in the winter (so pitch black), she was then in her 80s and she'd travelled halfway across London to reach us. She said she'd thought it was the next morning. Think this was one of the first signs that she was developing dementia.

Came home to find a hydrogen tank containing sperm in the hallway a few times. Unusual, but not unexpected. My dd was the result of one of those deliveries.

possibleimpossible · 27/08/2021 23:38

We had someone knock the door at 4am a few years back looking for his friend who had lived there before us. Safe to say I was fuming. Nothing more odd than that though thankfully.

PigletJohn · 28/08/2021 00:21

Since replacing the old, worn-out house sign, with a clear new one, with LED lighting, we haven't had any incorrectly-delivered pizzas, parcels etc.

Els1e · 28/08/2021 09:29

A man trying to hand a wedding dress to me. Turned out his daughter (whose dress it was) had given him the wrong address and he wanted the seamstress who lives next door but one.

Enko · 28/08/2021 10:00

This one was started with a phone call but 3 huge police officers and their dogs as ndn was being held at gunpoint (it was 1 am) dh and I had been watching a late film relaxing. They phoned to ask if they could come see layout of hour house before they could get into ndn house. It was resolved ndn was nuts btw.

Jacob Rees Mogg!
Did you slam it again, screaming? Was his nanny with him?
autumnboys · 28/08/2021 10:05

A six foot plus policeman who smiled down at me and said ‘hello. I’m the badger man’. It turned out we had a sett over the fence from our back garden and he wanted to recruit me to keep an eye on it.

BroccoliFloret · 28/08/2021 10:05

Someone scouting locations for a TV commercial. Came in, took a few photos, two weeks later a whole film crew descended on our house for the day and we earned £600 for it.

MilkywayMonarch22 · 28/08/2021 10:08

During COVID 2 young girls (approx 7/8) selling sweets American scout girl style for £5 a box! Bought some as I wondered if maybe the family had fallen on hard times (* see below) but the box was literally 2 mini packets of haribos 🤣🤣🤣 I definitely got done over there.

*I thought this as there used to be 2 young girls when I was a pre teen who would go carolling or joke telling well out of Xmas season to get money for food as mum was an alcoholic. They were known to SS. I see these girls (very distinctive twins) now and they're much older and they look happy and healthy, no longer scrawny or in too small clothes. I always hoped that their mum had got the help she needed and they'd do well in life.

Erdelyi · 28/08/2021 10:15

PallasStrand I was in my dressing gown and very hungover so ended up talking to him for twenty minutes 😱 Very nice manners, obscene beliefs which I probably told him!

Choconuttolata · 28/08/2021 10:19

During lockdown a man from the council came wanting to check the garden for chickens due to avian flu outbreak. He was adamant we had them. We don't have chickens or live on a farm/smallholding or in a rural area 🤷

elliejjtiny · 28/08/2021 10:30

My newish neighbour came round with a box of chocolates after my miscarriage. She said she understood as her child had died too. Later I found out that her son had died as a teenager and I was touched that she considered my loss as equal to hers.

A homeless man asking to borrow a blanket

Another homeless man asking for a drink of water

Dh's uncle randomly turning up and asking us to come to his ds birthday party. We hadn't seen him for about 5 years and I didn't recognise him.

Paramedics turning up in the middle of the night and banging on the door, closely followed by the police, driving like they were in formula 1. They'd got the wrong house. Dh was working away which he doesn't often do and it was just me and the dc.

dworky · 28/08/2021 10:34

Police at 6am asking for back access over fence to house two doors down.
Total wrong'un who we were amused to see hauled out of the house in only boxers & handcuffs. Felt very sorry for the young kids, though, woken up by shouty police entering their home.

TheWholeJingbang · 28/08/2021 10:37

@AmandaHoldensLips

A man knocked at the door and demanded that I show him my tits for an official survey. It turned out to be a scam. I felt so stupid.
You fell for that? 😳
