I'll go first: I love hearing woodpigeons cooing. Reminds me of summer, gardens and it is such a peaceful sound.

OP posts:

The rustling sound of the wind in the trees.

Strokethefurrywall · 27/08/2021 01:19

Heavy rain against the window
Kids giggling (at any age)
The sea lapping on the sand on an early morning beach walk
Approaching thunder in the distance
Wood pigeons cooing (agree with this OP)
A newborns first cry
A log fire cracking

Live in the Caribbean and awaiting the arrival of Tropical storm Ida tonight so lots of rain and thunder to look forward to!

LaBellina · 27/08/2021 01:32

Baby laughter
Rain
Typing on an old fashioned keyboard
Sound of sea waves

IHateCoronavirus · 27/08/2021 04:05

Yes to lots of these. I like the wind rustling the leaves on a warm summers day.
But my all time favourite sound is the sound of guitar strings doing a sort of sliding squeak when the musician changes chords. I have no idea why but it’s like I can feel it from my core to my skin, like the fizzing excitement of young summer romances.

Keladrythesaviour · 27/08/2021 06:28

Cicadas - that constant hum will always be holiday to me!
The sound of dry grass crunching under bare feet
Church bells
My dog doing sleep woofs Blush
The sound of a pub garden on a scorching hot day as you wander past - not loud and raucus but just full of happy chatter, clinking plates and glasses etc.
I think most of mine seem to be connected to sunshine Confused

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 27/08/2021 06:35

Seagulls.

Deathraystare · 27/08/2021 07:17

"It's free!"
Ice cubes clinking in a glass
Ping of a microwave "Dinner's ready!"
The click of a lipstick case
Meow of a cat
Laughter of children
"I agree with you, you are absolutely right!" - almost never happens.
The announcement of a new decent sounding programme on the tv, not a repeat.
Crunch of leaves or snow
The ocean
Bird song
Announcement of gold/silver/bronze medals for Olympians

"Would you like a free......."

We've got a couple nesting in the tree in our garden. Not sure if it's the same pair as we've had for the last 3 odd years, but they sound great. They often fly down onto our wall and have a nose in the dining room.

Was in bed the other morning and it was about 2am. Could hear an owl and it was gradually getting closer. It must have got really close as it sounded like it was just outside, as it was so loud. Was brilliant to hear.

The sea coming and going up the shore.....

BarbaraofSeville · 27/08/2021 07:40

Birds, laughter, ice etc all very lovely but there's nothing as remarkable as complete silence.

It's so rare that there's absolutely no traffic, birds, wind, electrical noise, talking or just people moving around etc etc that it's really unusual and noticeable. I think I can remember 'hearing' it about twice in my life. You basically have to be out in the countryside on a still day with no/very quiet roads.

sunshineonroses · 27/08/2021 11:04

Rain on a car roof
Bubbles popping next to your ears in the bath
Bits going up the Hoover
The opening chords of my favourite song

nicecheesegromit · 27/08/2021 11:07

I find a ticking clock in an otherwise quiet room really relaxing

EishetChayil · 27/08/2021 11:11

@hels1987

My one year old's belly laugh. It brings me so much happiness to hear her.

Exactly this! It is just so sweet and joyful.

I also love the sound of cicadas. Reminds me of stifling summer days when I was living abroad.

TheVolturi · 27/08/2021 11:13

Baby giggles.
Thunder.
Pup snoring.
Heavy rain when we are cosy inside.
Silence.

FourTeaFallOut · 27/08/2021 11:16

Rain on an aluminium roof and thunder.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 27/08/2021 11:20

@Dumbledoresgirl

Seagulls calling. I know some people hate seagulls but I love them.
Me too! We've just had the Babies up on the roof, although they've fully fledged and flown away now but listening to their little chirrups was lovely.
toughdaay · 27/08/2021 11:26

My DS laughing. His anxiety is really very bad at the moment and the rare times I hear him laughing are so heartwarming.

Yes I agree with this

Mine is the same toughdaay and I 100% get this. He was playing an interactive computer game with online players one evening and it was great to hear his laughter and banter
IHateCoronavirus · 27/08/2021 20:51

My grandad used to have an old grandfather clock which he wound up every night before going to bed. I loved the sound of it ticking, the pendulum swinging, and the whirring of the mechanism as it got ready to chime. Even thinking about the sound brings back such vivid memories of the feel and smell of his home. Rest in peace grandad Flowers

thanksforyourcommentrandomman · 27/08/2021 20:54

My dog dreaming, wind in the bamboo in the garden, crashing waves, heavy rain on a metal roof, crunching over a gravel path

Floofypants · 27/08/2021 20:58

The glug glug glug of the first glass of wine being poured from the bottle.

And pretty much all of the others mentioned. This is a very soothing thread!

BeaucoupFish · 27/08/2021 21:28

@Floofypants
Now that’s a good one 😂

piebald · 27/08/2021 21:34

Ice cracking when you pour a drink over it ( especially if it’s gin!)
