"A colleague came round the office yesterday with a collection envelope for someone in another team who is retiring. I've only worked there two weeks and I've never met the person leaving. Colleague asked me if I wanted to donate. I said no politely, explaining I'm new and I don't know them. She said 'oh that's right, you wouldn't really have had anything to do with them would you' and moved on to the next person."

"My DH's friend is getting married next year and has just arranged a week-long stag do in Prague in March. We have one DC under two and I'm due to give birth to our second in February. DH told me last night he'd been invited on the stag do but declined because we'll be too busy with the new baby and elder DC. He's going to go out for a curry one night with the groom-to-be and a couple of other mates who can't make it instead."

Any more? Grin

My friend has asked me to be a bridesmaid and asked me to the hen do abroad. I told her (spoke to her face to face) that I was really sorry but that I couldn’t get away from work midweek at all. She apologised and said she had been impulsive and it was because of the stress of the wedding planning that she just hadn’t thought. We had a big hug and I told her not to think of it again - enough on her plate. I’m still a bridesmaid obviously and really looking forward to it all.

@Saucery

A dog ran up to me in the park and jumped up, leaving muddy footprints all over my jeans. The owner was really apologetic but I said I didn’t mind at all, as since losing our own dog I missed scruffling a bouncy dog’s ears.
I could have written this-I always say if I'm not prepared for paw-prints I don't talk to the dog!

I went to the park today with my toddler. Another mum was there too. She checked her phone for a few minutes while her toddler played nicely on the slide. It didn't occur to me to judge her parenting and her toddler didn't even notice.

GreenWheat · 26/08/2021 14:49

I don't always agree with my friends, sometimes even on fundamental beliefs. I have never blocked any of them as a result of this.

SecretWitch · 26/08/2021 15:07

I breastfed one daughter until she was three and my younger daughter for one month. Both are happy and healthy. Not one person expressed outrage at either decision. How lucky we are to have the ability to feed our babies in which ever works for us.

I got home from work to find a large builder's van parked outside my house, so I parked behind it. The builder saw me and came over to say he was really sorry and would I like him to move his van. I said don't worry, it's no problem.

I came home from work early today as I had a bad headache and it was a wonderful surprise to see my neighbour and her children enjoying my garden. I have a super climbing frame and trampoline and they were having so much fun! They don't have either of these, their garden is full of beautiful flowers and neat borders so they had popped over the fence to mine.

I nipped inside and made my neighbour a cup of tea and got some snacks for the children. They followed me in and saw my TV is much bigger than theirs so they are going to watch a film here with their mum and their dad will use my BBQ
later to make their tea.

This lovely distraction cured my headache! I'm going to stay upstairs though so they can enjoy some quality family time.

My DD got into the oversubscribed Popular School. The other parents in DDs class couldnt have been nicer about it TBH! No one being nasty or jealous at all . DD friends the same!

"My DH works extremely long hours at his high paid job and has a long commute. When he gets home each evening he usually just wants to spend the time after dinner watching TV or playing on the Xbox to unwind. I was struggling to keep on top of doing most of the housework alongside my own job. I mentioned it one weekend, we discussed it and agreed that as we're fortunate enough to be able to afford it, we'd employ a cleaner so that I get plenty of down time too and we can enjoy some free time together."

I used to have too many friends, it was totally exhausting. Luckily, each of them has had the audacity to invite me to their weddings so I've been able to go NC one-by-one as the invitations rolled in. It's such a relief never to be invited anywhere any more.

myotherusernameistaken · 26/08/2021 15:36

I had a look in my fridge and cupboards and then came up with an idea of what to make for dinner using the things that were available.

This thread is just reminding me what a negative cesspit Mumsnet is generally.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/08/2021 15:39

I have been taking in parcels for my neighbour's all day today. Nice to able to help them out.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/08/2021 15:40

Don't worry about your spelling and grammatical errors, we all know what you mean. Grin

I think MN do a really good job hosting a free forum. It doesn’t always work exactly as I’d like but I appreciate they listen to their users on the whole and don’t mind a few adverts here and there.

Franklyfrost · 26/08/2021 15:42

I was walking my five dogs and a runner came the other direction down the path. I understand that I don’t own the countryside so I moved to one half of the path, made sure none of the dogs jumped up at or chased the runner and afterwards I picked up the poo left by my dogs on the path even though no one was watching. I didn’t hand it on a tree or bush but put it in the bin. Later that day I went to the supermarket, put my mask over my nose, was patient when someone in front of me slowed down for a second and when a random man commented on my appearance I kept my cool and floored him with my respectful but sassy reply. Then I went home my partner pinched my bum and I gave him a kiss.

RogersVideo · 26/08/2021 15:42

DH's childhood friend invited us to his wedding, but apologised that it was child-free. We weren't bothered and DH went by himself and had a nice time catching up with old friends.

DarlingFell · 26/08/2021 15:46

A dog came bouncing up to my DD and I at the park and we weren’t terrified. In fact it made DD’s day

Bluesheep8 · 26/08/2021 15:48

I then came home and cooked a chicken that fed my family of 4 for one meal, with a normal size salad.

🤣

"My neighbour's children have been playing in the back garden today. The noise has been a bit distracting while I've been WFH, so I closed the window and put on some noise cancelling headphones to help me concentrate. I finished the report I was working on without any problems."

I'm having a baby soon. My partner and I have chosen a name and have absolutely no interest in what other people think of it.

But Green everyone loves your chosen name, but especially your MIL who loves the name and you and will never interfere in your parenting ever!

Mumsnet used to be a bit rubbish when I was first on here years ago, but now it just gets better every day.

VeryLongBeeeeep · 26/08/2021 15:57

"My neighbour mentioned in passing that they are claiming benefits. I have no idea about the details of their financial situation. I'm glad we live somewhere that has a safety net for people in need of support."

loving this thread.

"The playbarn place near us has unisex toilets so any parent can take their child in there. Nobody has died of shock yet."
