Are there any stores or companies you refuse to shop from or deal with?

As the thread title says - I have just decided to shop anywhere except a major high street electrical / computer company from now onwards after a couple of poor customer service issues. I shopped there from convenience, but I'm fed up with them now.
This got me thinking. I avoid any MLM, even though I really like some products I was given as a gift, and stores with poor ethics regarding production, worker treatment, etc.
Do you have any you actively avoid?

I try to have as little to do as possible with companies whose policies erode women’s rights. Currently that still includes checking whether they are stonewall ‘champions’.

MouseholeCat · 26/08/2021 14:47

I'm in the US, I will not shop at Hobby Lobby because they are religious extremists trying to turn the US into Gilead.

VickyEadieofThigh · 26/08/2021 14:48

@TrainedByCats

Charities

MacMillian due to their erasure of ‘women’ on their website, if they are changing language for inclusion why are the number of mentions of men increasing whilst the pitifully few mentions of the word women reducing? And what about inclusion for women with low English language skills?

Cancer Research for removing the word women from cervical cancer materials a few years ago

Stonewall as they’ve turned into a protection racket who hate lesbians

NSPCC for refusing to discuss child safeguarding on MN Chat

Girl Guides and Scouts due to safeguarding concerns

Oxfam after the appalling behaviour of some of the men working for them in Haiti and other places - they were sexually exploiting desperate women

Yep, all of these, same reasons.
PegasusReturns · 26/08/2021 14:49

@BeKindhahahaha - sounds horrific, what on earth did she do/say?!

ChaToilLeam · 26/08/2021 14:50

British Airways - a friend of mine used to work for them and was treated appallingly last year. They are shit now anyway.

Ryanair because they are just horrible.

Badbadbunny · 26/08/2021 14:54

Currys - appalling customer service spanning many stores over the years. Gave them lots of chances in case of "one offs", but every time there's a problem with something they sell, they ignore the customer rights laws, ignore warranties, etc - their managers are very poorly trained.

Argos - very similar, had far too many run in's with managers about faulty goods where they won't comply with trading laws.

Nearlyadoctor · 26/08/2021 14:58

Pandora due to their rubbish CS and aftercare.
Lush

hellcatspangle · 26/08/2021 14:58

Wetherspoons on account Tim Martin is a massive brexiteering twat who banned dogs from his pubs, including outside.

Lairymary · 26/08/2021 15:04

Any shops owned by the Arcadia group.
Lush. (Bomb cosmetics are so much better!)
Tk max because it's like going to a jumble sale!!

Wishihadanalgorithm · 26/08/2021 15:06

Dunelm. I boycotted them for years after a saga with curtains. I won’t bore you with the details but I ended up without some curtains but with others which didn’t fit. The service was almost as bad as Virgin Media’s which I still believe is THE worst company I have EVER dealt with.

Every shop can have a bad day but when you’ve taken to Twitter and spoken to the highest level of customer service and matters are still not resolved there really must be something wrong with the company and its systems.

I have occasionally used Dunelm in the last year but only because I was desperate.

Hemingwaycat · 26/08/2021 15:07

My Dad boycotted all sorts when I was a kid, I don’t speak to him now but suspect his boycotting list has grown rather than reduced. From memory it was nestle, Coca Cola, McDonald’s and Nike. Totally pointless though because he used to give me cash and let me go into the sports shop to buy my Nike trainers so he was still buying them! I just rolled my eyes at him.

I won’t shop in primark but that’s because the quality is shit above all else. I really dislike Asda for some reason so avoid it at all costs.

Hemingwaycat · 26/08/2021 15:08

I don’t go to Wetherspoons for the first reason too.

@PineapplePanda

British Airways. Just absolutely awful.

Their planes are old, the service and food onboard is gross and inadequate. We haven't found a single flight we can use our points on yet because that flight doesn't have any "allocated upgrades available for point holders".

Will never ever fly with them again.

You need to use seatspy -they show the full BA reward seat inventory cW and CE is rarely an issue. You need to book a year in advance on popular routes- head for points and the BA board on flyer talk are both helpful places for advice. There is very little first due to decommissioning the 1st heavy planes last year

@SweetPetrichor

I guess I boycott JK…but that’s no hardship cause I’m not that into HP. I would boycott any company that was was anti-LGBTQIA, and I will boycott any product that is against trans rights.
Er... you didn't see the outcry about computer keyboard manufacturers, and phone keyboard software makers, being transphobic then? Unlike most things it wasn't all over Twitter.
Lotusmonster · 26/08/2021 15:11

I’m not rich enough to buy one, but Tesla. I just can’t like Elon Musk after he threw a big tantrum because the rescue team refused to use his ego-trip submarine thingy and he then was scorned and called the lovely hero rescue diver a paedo. He is a truly horrible man.

Lotusmonster · 26/08/2021 15:14

Ryan Air….O’Leary is the man with zero humility…always right even when he’s cataclysmically wrong. “Just Jab n Go”! 😂

LadyCarolineDester · 26/08/2021 15:17

Exodus Travel

The worst customer service I’ve encountered and a rip off, to boot.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 26/08/2021 15:19

Hubbards cereal (c.f Laurel Hubbard)

Transgender New Zealand weight lifter ? How did she get on in the snatch ?

PineapplePanda · 26/08/2021 15:19

@MauveMagnolia thanks for the info and advice.

I've used up the last of my points just reserving the seats on my last flight so thankfully I don't feel like I need to fly with them anymore!

BearSoFair · 26/08/2021 15:23

Local Sainsburys - twat manager. Early on in the pandemic he was at the tills telling customers (including MIL) to shuffle together in the queue. MIL pointed out the social distancing markers and he told her they weren't important, it was his store to make the rules in and "if you don't like it put that basket down and go somewhere else" Shock

WHSmith because they treat their staff so badly. Worked there for 5 years and haven't set foot in one since the day I left.

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 26/08/2021 15:25

Admiral insurance after the shocking treatment of a family member who's house was badly damaged in a flood and the refused to payout on a technicality and accused my family member of fraud which is a load of crap.

Ryan Air where at all possible because they are rip off merchants and it took nearly a year for me to get my refund of a recent flight.

Muselyforbreakfast · 26/08/2021 15:26

M&S
Always
Curry’s
Nestle
Lush
All for the same reasons given by others.

Clarks shoes, interestingly because of a terrible manager, like many other people have said, we can’t all be near the same shop.

A local burger van who used various serial rapists and other vile people in their advertising.

TheWoleb · 26/08/2021 15:26

@BearSoFair

WH Smith was my first job when I was 16. They were great to us. It was in a very small town and only had about 10 staff in total but everyone really liked it and the manager was amazing. I thought, "wow, managers in retail really have your back". Then I moved to a city and got a different job in retail and the managers were awful!

IsabelGowdie · 26/08/2021 15:29

I’m watching what Greene King pubs do in the next week about their dreadful self confessed AGP* manager who called a group of women “cunts” and called the police on them because he didn’t like what they were thinking.

We have tons of Greene King pubs round here and I will be spreading the word.

  • the manager describes themselves as a AGP.

Do you have a link to this as I can't find anything online regarding Felix food being recalled?

Purina haven't recalled any of their food. They completely deny that there is a problem. Facebook page is called "Cats Recently Affected By Felix Food" and has grown to 16.6k members in only a few weeks.
