Are there any stores or companies you refuse to shop from or deal with?

As the thread title says - I have just decided to shop anywhere except a major high street electrical / computer company from now onwards after a couple of poor customer service issues. I shopped there from convenience, but I'm fed up with them now.
This got me thinking. I avoid any MLM, even though I really like some products I was given as a gift, and stores with poor ethics regarding production, worker treatment, etc.
Do you have any you actively avoid?

Anything Murdoch has dipped his wizened old bollocks into.

That bra woman. Michelle Something.

Bensons for Beds. Unbelievably shite.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/08/2021 11:01

I can't buy any Oral B products now since their ridiculous advertising campaigns.

How do I keep my MOUTH healthy? was bad enough.

Now we have

Where do dentists go EVERY DAY to look after their teeth?

Fucks sake.

I also boycott a cafe in my neighbourhood since the waitress walked past me sitting at a table waiting to order and took an order from someone she knew who had just come in, quite some time after I had. That was at least 16 years ago and never been in there since.

Thank you for making me laugh this morning!

Any MLMs
Any brands gifting hideously expensive products to influencers who absolutely don’t need it (although this is becoming tricky as they all seem to be at it nowadays)

TheVolturi · 26/08/2021 11:06

Sainsburys online groceries, because I hate how they send more expensive subs and only give you a voucher!

Bogofftosomewherehot · 26/08/2021 11:07

My local Sainsbury's - twat of a manager.
nestle.

HeronLanyon · 26/08/2021 11:07

Starbucks have used once in my life - due to something way back connected with them being taken over. Tag I’ve never used any other coffee take away places either.

1990s · 26/08/2021 11:08

Sports Direct and all other Mike Ashley owned things. His business practices are decidedly unethical.

Try to avoid Amazon for the same reason.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 26/08/2021 11:08

@TheFlis12345 they came up on a list for bad palm oil policies etc. - I think it was 'best beauty companies' against a range of criteria and they scored very low out of 10, but to be fair it was a while ago.

You see I'm really annoyed with myself as I hadn't heard anything about M&S. Sounds like I totally should have though as more than one poster has mentioned them.

TartanJumper · 26/08/2021 11:08

I won't shop at my local shoe shop. Spent 10 minutes waiting to catch the assistants attention as they laughed and giggled about their night out and ignored the many customers waiting.

Boatonthehorizon · 26/08/2021 11:09

Boots are very very snooty. I often come straight out of the M&S next door where I do my shopping and the staff are lovely, and into Boots where every time Im treated like something theyve stepped in!

1990s · 26/08/2021 11:10

@AtomHeartMotherOfGod

Sorry I see you you were mainly focussing on customer service and I've approached it from the ethical production/ planet destroying sides Blush

The RAC recently gave us terrible customer service. I will probably switch from them when our time runs out.

Ethical / environmental far more important to know about IMHO!

I thought M&S's Plan A was pretty good... am I totally deluded?

alloalloallo · 26/08/2021 11:11

A local restaurant after their behaviour towards their staff and other restaurants/takeaways during lockdown - a lot of people locally boycott them for the same reason.

A local hardware shop - rude and patronising owner who treated me like an idiot when he didn’t know what sanding sealer was

Local clearance company - owner posts offensive shit all over Facebook.

Local pet shop - owner accuses everyone her of animal abuse. I went in there one day to get a car seatbelt clip for my dog’s harness - huge long rant about how harnesses are abusive and I should be ashamed of myself - still sells harnesses though so massive hypocrite to boot.

Made.com after an awful experience buying an expensive chair.

CoronaPeroni · 26/08/2021 11:13

Not that Nestle care but not one of their products has been bought by me for 30 years. I have eaten some Rolos when offered but tried not to enjoy them too much Wink

PathOfLeastResitance · 26/08/2021 11:17

The butcher in the next village - So overpriced. I’m happy to pay more for quality produce but he takes the piss.
Primark.
The Clark’s in the town near me. The manager is awful to her staff and not much better to customers.
DFS - shocking customer service and shoddy sofas.
The furniture shop with Oak in its name - that’s down to the awful adverts.
Texaco - when I started to drive many many years ago they had porn mags all over the place. That was over 20 years ago and I still don’t use them.
Ryanair - I refuse to give that awful man who owns it a penny of my money.
Dunedin - poor customer service.

There must be loads more.

AliceMcK · 26/08/2021 11:18

Booths, my DF worked for them for years, after he had a brain haemorrhage he was obviously very sick, instead of supporting a hard worker who had never taken a days sick in his life until that moment they treated him so horribly trying to force him to quit. My DF who was a very strong proud man ended up suffering depression because of it and did quit because if he hadn’t I would hate to think what he would have done. Thankfully it was the best thing he did as he thrived in his next job. But I still hate Booths and refuse to shop in there.

Wasabi

One of their takeaways kept me off work for two days puking and shitting. They basically stonewalled me with their standard 'all our food is checked regularly and is compliant to industry standards' type of letter when I raised a complaint. Obviously it is very hard to prove the cause of food poisoning and they knew that. Have boycotted ever since.

PathOfLeastResitance · 26/08/2021 11:20

Asda - so many reasons.
Sports Direct - I get the rage just walking past.
