I've had a really awful few months but thankfully feel like I'm finally starting to turn a corner. Still feeling really down as I've been through a lot and it's hard to lift myself out of this, but I want to try and that's a start.

Anyway, I commute to work by car with a journey of about 40 minutes each way. I'm thinking that I'd like to start listening to podcasts or even something on audible on my commute, which would give me something to look forward to and a change from listening to the same old news.

Needs to be funny, something to take my mind off things, something to help me escape my current dreariness and force a laugh out of me.

Any recommendations please?

I loved French and Saunders on Audible, also You’re Dead to Me, which covers different periods of history taught by Greg Jenner (one of the Horrible History team) a comedian and an expert. New series out now and it’s my favourite as it covers some fairly obscure topics.

Life’s a Beach - Alan Carr travel podcast.
Lockdown Parenting - Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicome.

The unbelievable truth (panel show, clever and very funny)
Fortunately (not strictly comedy but it does make me laugh)
Party's over (political sitcom with Miles jupp)
In and out of the kitchen ( quite subtle in humour)
The news quiz which isn't currently on air)

All available on BBC sounds.

The wheel of misfortune... on BBC sounds... It is definitely not to be listened to with children around. It is not for pearl clutchers but makes me properly laugh sometimes to tears. 😁

Sarcobaleno · 25/08/2021 22:36

I laugh at My Therapist Ghosted Me

What's your problem with Nick Abbot and Carol McGiffin. Really funny and there's loads of episodes.

Also another vote for My Therapist Ghosted Me. Had actual belly laughs from that series . I can't wait for the next one.

RusholmeRuffian · 26/08/2021 09:34

Athletico Mince with Bob Mortimer and Andy Dawson.

Unihorn · 26/08/2021 09:36

Parenting Hell is my favourite for my 45 minute commute. I also like Smartless if they're interviewing funny people.

Trufflepuffpuff · 26/08/2021 09:43

Love Parenting Hell and Off Menu.

I'm not sure what I'm missing but can't get on board with Shagged Married Annoyed, it just sounds really contrived to me. Maybe I need to give it another go?

I like Katherine Ryan's podcast too but only if you enjoy her style.

confusedlots · 26/08/2021 21:43

Thanks everyone, great suggestions! Listened to My Therapist Ghosted Me this morning and was definitely just the sort of thing I was looking for. Looking forward to working my way through the other ones too!

I tried 'drunk women solving crimes' from this thread. I was cutting dh's hair and I love doing that while listening to a podcast, I love getting lost in it while my hands are busy and he loves not having to chat to a barber 😆
But... It didn't float my boat at all sadly. Only tried the first episode though.
