Has anyone got a Joseph Joseph bin?

I literally hate kitchen bins, I never had one and put rubbish straight outside but DH insists we do. I hate the smell and the thought of accidentally touching the contents turns my stomach. They’re also all ugly and obtrusive.

I really like the appeal of the Joseph Joseph totem bin but I’m a little unsure how it works exactly and if it is worth the price tag. Has anyone got one?

Yeah, I got one. Don't know what the model is though.
DH hit the roof about the cost 😁 but does agree it's a Very Good Bin. (It really isn't worth the money, it's a dustbin FFS!) It's 3 years old now and holding strong.
We use the top bit with a bag in for normal rubbish and the bottom drawer for recycling.

I was exactly the same as you op, hate bin's with a passion 🤮. I bought a brabantia one and can deal with it. Treat yourself to whatever you're happy with.

Yeah we’ve got an older style one that’s actually two small bins in the top and a drawer in the bottom. We use one half of the top for rubbish (smaller bin means it’s emptied sooner!) and the rest for recycling. Definitely does the job

I bought one but sent it back because the quality wasn’t worth the price. Ended up getting a really small bin that gets put out frequently as the compromise between having a bin and putting rubbish straight out.

Yes we have it and I still love it! Would recommend I got it when it was a bit cheaper on Amazon - keep an eye out as the price does go up and down a bit

Yes and love it. The lid started not to open and I messaged them and they just sent me a completely new one.

Bought one of their laundry bins the other day. That's pretty fab too.

I think we have a totem bin and I love it. DH spent a ridiculously long time searching online for the perfect bin because we needed something with a particular footprint but I like how it doesn't look like a bin. We did have a little food waste bin in the top part but we got rid of it so just use the top half for general rubbish and the bottom half for recycling. The only downside is that my two year old likes to run around the house wheeling the bottom part of the bin around but that may be less of an issue for you!

I have the older style totem bin. Rubbish at the top. Recycling in the bottom drawer bit. Simple and it looks good.

My mum has one. For her it is great, but she lives alone. I wouldn't have one for my family of 4 as it would need emptying every day or two (and I'm referring to the bigger one).

I have 2 bog standard recycling rectangle bins. But put a bag in one for general/food waste. Tenner each in the range.

The only time it's ever smelled is if dh has changed a nappy and bit taken it to the wheelie bin.
It gets emptied every evening after dinner. Never had a smell or flies or anything thankfully.

I prefer to empty my bin every day or two. They get a bit smelly, after a while.

This is a good point - we tend to put our bin out every other day or so (live in a flat with communal bins which are emptied two or three times a week)

Hmm we put the bin out every couple of days but it always seems to stink, or maybe I’m just too paranoid! We recycle a lot more than we throw as well so any bin with a big recycle compartment I would consider.

We have a 60l totem. Used to have two 50l bins but had an issue with smells and their shape. Love the JJ totem. Even DH is converted. Smaller bins but their shape seems to fill better and more efficiently iyswim. Haven't noticed smells as much even in the massive heat.

They're quite notorious for the automatic opening breaking though. We bought a nearly new one with a broken function from eBay for £70 rather than £210 as they were advertised new.

We have one! £125 I THINK but I got a discount via their website and also bought it via our cash back thing so ended up being £100 ish.

It's great, stone coloured. We have a tiny kitchen. 20l bin on top and 20l recycling on bottom that wheels out nicely. Also has a little food caddy but we already had the table top one separately so don't use it.

Means we empty it more often but not THAT much more. Also it's small and not in the way. Worth the ££.

We avoided automatic opening when we bought our old style totem. Just what was the point unless you have severe physical limitations? It is just something to break and then the whole unit is wasted.

I just press the catch on ours with whatever body part is nearest, if my hands are mucky. Knees and elbows work well.

We have a simple human two chamber bin and i cant fault them. Simple human replaced the bin foc after 3 years as the coating had started to come off on the top of the bin.
They are really sturdy bins.
Im saving up for their dog food bins now

Just coming back to this thread to tell you about the Joseph Joseph bin I bought on FB marketplace for £20…! It had a dodgy mechanism but DH fixed it, I love it!

Bought the totem when I moved in three years ago and a few months back the lid broke.
It’s a plastic part so contacted JJ and asked if they had the part. They said it was out of stock and to leave it with them. I thanked them and asked that they let me know as the dog was now finding himself with free access 😂
Had an email the following day that said "we'll send you a new one" and two days later a brand new version of the totem bin arrived.

Best part was we put the old one in the shed for storage and several weeks later DH found a 3d print for the broken part, so he printed it, repaired it and DS had the old bin.

For customer service alone I'd shop with JJ.
