What can I make with mince beef that doesn't include tomatoes of any kind and also isn't burgers?

Kofte?

Sparklfairy · 25/08/2021 08:51

Chilli? Tacos?

Sparklfairy · 25/08/2021 08:54

Just did a double take thinking doesn't chilli have tomatoes? Because mum always left them out as my sister hated them. It was still lovely!

Keema doesn’t have to have tomatoes

Cottage pie

TorySteller · 25/08/2021 08:56

Keema?

Savannahnanana · 25/08/2021 09:00

Pinch of Nom Keema Pie (Google it). It’s a spicy Shepherds Pie and is delicious. Also, you could make meatballs to have in a traybake with roasted veg.

Savannahnanana · 25/08/2021 09:01

Cottage Pie!

Savannahnanana · 25/08/2021 09:03

Meat loaf!

Savannahnanana · 25/08/2021 09:05

Mince and dumplings or beef cobbler! (Sorry, I keep thinking of another one 🤣)

Unmute · 25/08/2021 09:06

Larb. I use this recipe, but I'm sure you could substitute meat. www.google.com/amp/s/amp.broadsheet.com.au/national/food-and-drink/article/recipe-smith-delis-larb-salad

Green Dragon meatballs

It uses pork, but would work with beef mince - and you could leave out the tomato purée if you needed to.

Gotta be keema. Or mince and peas on toast.

Divebar2021 · 25/08/2021 09:21

Menchi- Katsu

BarbaraofSeville · 25/08/2021 09:23

Swedish style meatballs - with mash, creamy gravy sauce and some kind of green veg?

I was also going to say 'there's a Thai dish that is spiced mince, served in lettuce shells, but on googling, I now know it is called Larb and someone has already suggested that upthread.

AndTime · 25/08/2021 09:24

Oh wow thanks so many options, I couldn't get past Bolognese or lasagne.

I always use passata in my cottage pie too to give it depth. I need to branch out away from tomatoes! I considered meatballs but we always have them with a tomato based sauce.

Going to read through the recipes and choose something. Thanks again !

Lamb keema, lamb kofte, takeaway lamb doner kebabs, turkey rissoles, meatballs, beef cobbler, cottage pie

AlwaysLatte · 25/08/2021 09:26

Fake away that should read!

BIWI · 25/08/2021 09:28

@AndTime you could always make a cheese sauce for your meatballs?

AndTime · 25/08/2021 09:28

Those Asian meatballs have my mouth watering!

The Menchi-Katsu looks really delicious too!

I'm making teen DD cook recipe kits this week (and probably pinching ideas). She's doing a Thai Style beef* mince thing (that looks very similar to a pork larb) over rice

Red onion
Red Pepper
Ginger
Mangetout (French beans would be fine, or perhaps peas/broad or edamame beans at a push)
Chicken stock
Thai Spice blend
Lime
Coriander

If I am making similar myself I chop up a chilli, add a spoon of sugar and a bit of fish sauce and don't have any stock.

  • it's a Hello Fresh recipe - you can probably find instructions online.
OccultGnuAsWell · 25/08/2021 09:33

How about some old school savoury mince and Yorkshire puddings?

Madcats · 25/08/2021 09:40

You can probably still get it 2ndhand online, but decades ago Josceline Dimbleby did a book for Sainsbury’s called "Marvellous Meals With Mince". It had an update and reprint in 2012.

Growing up, her father was a well-travelled diplomat so there are a variety of recipes for most meats.
