What film based on the book was exactly how you pictured it?

Of Mice and Men was exactly how I'd imagined it, right down to the position of buildings and how characters looked.

I guess it's a testament to excellent writing and film making.

Lord of the Rings was just like I imagined it 😍

Was going to say normal people but I read the book after!

Not exactly a film but the adaptation of Julian Fellows's Belgravia was exactly like the book. I really enjoyed the book and the television series.

Not a film, but My Brilliant Friend TV series. Perfection.

Atonement -

it was so true to my mental images from reading the book that I was convinced I'd seen the film already (it was a new release at the time)

OlivePenderghast · 22/08/2021 18:53

Not a film but the tv series of Eleanor Ferrante’s Neapolitan Novels was just how I imagined when reading them and can’t wait for Series 3.

UnaOfStormhold · 22/08/2021 19:07

Lord of the rings for me too - definitely helped by the way some of the illustrators for the book covers etc were brought in to the production team.

BertieBotts · 22/08/2021 19:11

Holes

Harry Potter looked totally different in my head.

GlitchStitch · 22/08/2021 19:12

Sleepers, I read the book first and the film was exactly as I imagined.

toffeeandcream · 22/08/2021 19:14

The first 2 Harry Potters definitely seemed to capture hogwarts and the wizarding world as I pictured it, subsequent hp films seemed to go really dark and grey and really suck the warmth and colour out of it.

dementedma · 22/08/2021 19:15

As a big Lord of the Rings fan I was nervous about the film, but it was spot on.

Yes, was just coming on to say Atonement! Perfectly conveyed the sense of place and time.

Cloud atlas was pretty spot on

fringeneedsatrim · 22/08/2021 19:19

Another vote for the Green Mile. I don't think I've ever watched a film that so closely reflected the book.

ladygindiva · 22/08/2021 19:20

The lion the witch and the wardrobe. I was bracing myself to be disappointed as I loved the book so much.
