What film based on the book was exactly how you pictured it?

Of Mice and Men was exactly how I'd imagined it, right down to the position of buildings and how characters looked.

I guess it's a testament to excellent writing and film making.

@toffeeandcream

The first 2 Harry Potters definitely seemed to capture hogwarts and the wizarding world as I pictured it, subsequent hp films seemed to go really dark and grey and really suck the warmth and colour out of it.
I’m still not sure I’ve forgiven them for cutting Rik Mayall as Peeves. I’d love to see the footage maybe on something like comic relief.

Disney ‘A Christmas Carol’ is 100% accurate even using the drawings from the original plates.

@Giantwaterbottle

Lord of the Rings was just like I imagined it 😍
me too. I remember going to the cinema alone (DH is not a fan!) and having very low expectations. Then it started and I wax transported to The Shire.

To Kill A Mocking Bird - really captured for me the oppressive heat and nature of the time and place

ichundich · 22/08/2021 19:38

1984;
Anne Frank's Diary;
Rebecca

Mushtullo · 22/08/2021 19:40

@alwaysmyfault

The first Harry Potter and the original Rebecca
But the Hitchcock Rebecca completely changed the plot!

A room with a view
Oh, yes, actually. This is a good shout. Actually Merchant Ivory did some excellent novel adaptations — I was also impressed with their Heat and Dust, which is a novel I really like.

Atonement....come back to me

TheMarzipanDildo · 22/08/2021 19:44

Yes definitely A Room With a View!

though now I come to think of it I might have seen the film first

MrsJackWhicher · 22/08/2021 19:58

When I saw the thread title immediately thought ‘Of Mice and Men’ so delighted to see it in the OP. Someone said that OMAM was ‘the perfect book’ I agree and think the film is the perfect film and so true to it, it hurts.

JaneJeffer · 22/08/2021 20:03

Atonement as well for me. Keira Knightly in the green dress was just how I pictured it in the book.

Mooserp · 22/08/2021 20:05

The Help

TSSDNCOP · 22/08/2021 20:07

IT

Soubriquet · 22/08/2021 20:12

None

No movie has ever come up to par as the books

It’s either heavily edited, now how I pictured/described or just gone another way entirely

Never forgiven how they did Miss Peregrines. Amazing book, shit film

sadperson16 · 22/08/2021 20:14

I think Atonement did a pretty good job .

mizu · 22/08/2021 20:16

Lord of the Rings was spot on Star

FightingtheFoo · 22/08/2021 20:18

@RicherThanYew

The Beach.
The Beach book is literally nothing like the film! They changed so much stuff. Book was way better.
Justme10 · 22/08/2021 20:20

The shining and the green mile.

Absolutely!

I read the book when DS was studying it and was floored by the ending. It left me completely stunned.

I understand Gary Sinise directed the film. I'm still astonished it was exactly how I had envisaged it.

The Godfather. Wonderfully cast

BikeRunSki · 22/08/2021 20:23

The original Rebecca
The Cider House Rules

BikeRunSki · 22/08/2021 20:26

The TV adaptation of The Crow Road totally caught the somber, gothic atmosphere of the book for me.

@ladygindiva

The lion the witch and the wardrobe. I was bracing myself to be disappointed as I loved the book so much.
I agree. Pity about the others.
