I just watched the parachute death from Hollyoaks. I’ve never watched Hollyoaks, but oh my god, it was so haunting. I felt terrified.

I’m not sure I recommend anyone watching it! The only other times I’ve really been affected by tv was on This is England the tv series - the rape by the stepfather and then the crack orgy for the young girl with all the skanky men. Both made me feel really ill.

The only other tv that gets to me is Futurama at the end of Jurassic Bark - the dog WAITED 😭

Anything that you couldn’t watch again/haunted you?

@ZoyaTheDestroyer

Oh you are in for a treat *@SnoopyLights*. There are six seasons on iPlayer and although they are a rewarding re-watch I envy you seeing them all for the first time. Enjoy!
I'm really looking forward to seeing them all.

I agree, when you don't know what's coming next it does add an edge to watching.

@peachgreen

I can't watch sad things any more, not since a) having DD and b) losing DH. But the one that has stuck with me that hasn't been mentioned yet is the Channel crossing scene in Years and Years. I woke up in the night crying about it and have never forgotten it. So expertly written and just utterly, utterly heartbreaking.
that wa horrific wasnt it-great series
smallgoon · 24/08/2021 20:38

The ending of Mother Simpson always makes me quite sad.

Libraryghost · 24/08/2021 23:26

I have just watched Midsommar. Will I ever be happy again? .

Rhannion · 24/08/2021 23:40

@ZeldaPrincessOfHyrule

Yes OP! Jurassic Bark EVERY TIME. We have to skip it. It's somehow worse with the DVD commentary on. I can't bear it Sad

Also agree with PP - the Spooks deep-frying scene!

There was this one-off drama with Pauline Quirk (in the 90s, I think? I feel like I might've made this up now I type it...) about a really gruesome grisly murder, I'm pretty sure it was called The Sculptress? The very final scene when her conviction is finally overturned and she hugs the woman who's fought for her case to be re/examined, she does this look to camera as if to say "Yep, I did it! I murdered them all! Now I'm free!" and it just haunted me so much as a teen.

That was definitely The Sculptress , it’s a cracker that ending. The writer of the book also did wrote The Scold’s Bridle and The Ice House both were filmed by BBC , the latter starred Daniel Craig.

Cracker - episode where Christopher Eccleston's character is a policeman lying on a pavement bleeding to death having chased a man through back alleys and been stabbed by him. He's on the radio to his colleagues but doesn't know what street he is on. Then he remembers his wife, who he left in the supermarket to chase the man.....

LeftyLou · 25/08/2021 00:47

The scene in The Secret Garden where the woman runs away from her toddler daughter.

In Chernobyl when the young husband and soon to be father's life is cut short especially the lowering of his coffin being covered with cement. Even more so it been a true event.

When the young police officer is crushed to death when she pulls over the kidnappers.

A scene on eastenders I cannot remember the characters but one steals a bike and ends up being stabbed. His friend dies from his wounds.

LeftyLou · 25/08/2021 00:49

Sorry I meant to say the police officer was on Happy Valley

MumofSpud · 25/08/2021 01:25

@Thelikelylass

Hereditary - horrible, horrible film for all the wrong reasons. So distasteful. A recent film I stumbled upon - 'The Nightingale' - one particularly horrendous scene and I have a strong stomach. 'A.I.' - not a great film but my ex- broke his heart crying at one particular scene, he was inconsolable! A 70's kids show called 'Kizzy' about a gypsy girl and her gran's caravan being burnt down. I was so traumatised!!!!
I watched AI in floods of tears - ugly sobbing throughout - I thought to myself this isn't normal and did a POAS (was TTC at the time!) and yes I was pregnant!!

I used to love Cracker, and was on Bits when that happened - i have watched everything with Christopher Eccleston since. Robert Carlyle was amazing in it too

@Libraryghost

I have just watched Midsommar. Will I ever be happy again? .
It's one of my favourite films from this century, but I think I have been influenced by a lot of experiences with crappy men on OLD!
ihearttc · 25/08/2021 08:25

Carter’s death in ER

And this one is a bit random but I can’t watch The Impossible. I first saw it on a plane and I had nightmares for weeks afterwards. I can’t swim and I have 2 boys…

SnoopyLights · 25/08/2021 09:09

That scene on Happy Valley, and she's on the radio and I think she says "they've killed me" doesn't she? It's one that stuck with me as well.

So many scenes from Happy Valley stick with you like that though. I think it's just one woman who writes the series and she knows how to get you with a good scene.

SummerOfComedy · 25/08/2021 09:16

@VeganVeal

All episodes of 'Duty Free' it was awful
My dad absolutely loved this series!

I still don't understand why. 😁

iklboo · 25/08/2021 17:18

Carter didn't die in ER?

ihearttc · 25/08/2021 18:18

Nope he didn’t…I meant his accident! 🤣🤣

Claricestarling1 · 25/08/2021 19:02

The beginning of Ghost Ship when they are all dancing on the deck and piece of wire goes through them all 🤢

Kanaloa · 25/08/2021 19:07

I really didn’t get hereditary. Everyone said it was so scary and I was excited to watch it but me and DH both just found it boring. It seemed really long and the storyline wasn’t cohesive to me/didn’t seem well put together.

BraveBananaBadge · 25/08/2021 22:17

The end of poor old Goodsir in The Terror. Didn't help that he was played by Paul Ready and his lovely curls. I hadn't seen Motherland at all at that point, might have been too distracting to keep thinking it was Kevin Grin

Mrsfrumble · 25/08/2021 22:56

All of The Terror really. The tuunbaq gave me proper nightmares, and the carnival and fire.

janj2301 · 25/08/2021 23:35

I am 70, I don't think I have seen any of the films/shows mentioned, thankfully. I do however remember the shock of Bambi's mum being killed....

KilledByWitches · 25/08/2021 23:39

The Breaking Bad scene with Todd in the desert when they realise they have been seen by a Young boy. Todd waves, pulls out his gun and kills him.
Horrific scene.

whynotwhatknot · 25/08/2021 23:54

Daphne dying in Neighbours

I love you clarkey-hewas so devsated

Returnoftheowl · 26/08/2021 01:45

This is super vague, as I can't remember what it was called. But it was a BBC "documentary" basically detailing how quickly things could grind to a halt in the UK. It mixed footage with taking heads style after the event interviews.
It starts with a massive road accident on the M25, really closed to either Heathrow or Gatwick (can't remember which) and all the traffic stacking up. There was a family that were on the way to the airport to go on holiday but got stuck in the traffic. The dad says he'll stay with the car and get a later flight so the wife and kids walk to the airport.
There's a shot of the dad watching the plane with his family as it goes overhead and then as it's flying over the M25 it explodes.
That shot has just stayed with me for years, but it's a shame I've not idea what the site was actually called!

OMG me too, I remember vividly having to be taken out of the cinema in tears. I have vowed that my son will never see that film.
