I just watched the parachute death from Hollyoaks. I’ve never watched Hollyoaks, but oh my god, it was so haunting. I felt terrified.

I’m not sure I recommend anyone watching it! The only other times I’ve really been affected by tv was on This is England the tv series - the rape by the stepfather and then the crack orgy for the young girl with all the skanky men. Both made me feel really ill.

The only other tv that gets to me is Futurama at the end of Jurassic Bark - the dog WAITED 😭

Anything that you couldn’t watch again/haunted you?

CoffeeRunner I agree wholeheartedly! I have a phobia of ghosts and Horror Films .Also a list of anything too "gritty" .Really violent movies and even some of the news I find hard to watch! Like something light or a cosy murder mystery that kind of thing,

dottydodah · 22/08/2021 13:54

Like Tales Of the Unexpected .Does seem to have a slightly weird feel about it somehow .Maybe 1970s/80s or because I was only about 12 or 13 then? Also Silent Witness very dark sometimes .Nikki getting locked underground in Mexico .Almost any film with a warning is a no no for me .DH has to abide by the rules so he can watch all the footie he likes in return!

@PJsEveryday

I don't know but he seemed to do OK on the musicals circuit. He changed his surname I think but now sure what too. I'll need to Google
Darius Campbell. Didn't realise he has actually done pretty good for himself! Handsome chap too ;-)

Met darius and he is even more gorgeous in RL beautiful looking man

No child of mine was utterly horrific. I don't think I've ever cried so much.. The cry at the end was just so heart wrenching, you could really feel her sheer pain of being abused in that cry. So gut wrenching that it was based on a true story

Me too and I concur, he’s gorgeous.
louisejxxx · 22/08/2021 15:36

I’m guessing it’s already been said somewhere before. But pretty much every episode of The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s so awful in places I don’t know how I carried on watching.

When Bryce rapes Hannah in 13 reasons why.

Years ago I watched a two part miniseries called I Know my First Name is Steven. It was the true story of a seven year old boy abducted and held captive for 7 years. I was absolutely haunted by it, and over 30 years later still think about it. Fiction wise, the death scene at the beginning of Cliffhanger, Damon's death in Brookside, the end scene in The Champ, and The Body episode of Buffy
I watched that too, and have also frequently thought about it over the years.

More recently a scene that stuck with me is one from The Pursuit of Happyness where the main character, played by Will Smith, is homeless with his son. They didn't get to the hostel in time for a bed so they sleep in a public toilet. The dad makes an adventure of it so that his son isn't aware of the desperation of their situation, and cries as he cradles his sleeping son under the bright lights as someone bangs on the door. It was based on a true story, but whether that exact thing happened, I don't know. It's heartbreaking though.

And as a few others have mentioned, I watched V with my mum when I was young. I remember the aliens, who looked like ordinary people, being held in these containers. Some kind of smoke or gas was out through a letterbox which caused the skin to fall off revealing lizard-like skin underneath.

I also vividly remember someone being forced to put on a helmet or something which had a massive earwig type thing in it which then burrowed into the man's head through his ear. I don't know if that was also V or something else I probably shouldn't have been watching.

DumbestBlonde · 22/08/2021 17:18

ANIMALS ALERT.
Years ago I watched a (probably C4) documentary about animals considered food on the Far East: I still vividly remember, even though I wish I didn't, a cat being submerged held down obviously alive in either water or I hate to think, oil.... And it's hair being removed..... Also, a snake, a mouth opening and closing, again, still alive, as it's head was cut off with big scissors.
Also, the whole thing, documentary Earthlings. Cannot watch it again, and didn't really watch it the first time.... But it SHOULD be watched.

TourneeDuChatNoir · 22/08/2021 17:34

I agree with many of these (although I am a horror fan and I really liked Hereditary and Midsommar) but I don't think anyone's mentioned Apostle yet. The head drilling scene, not so much the actual drill, but the bit where you see the victim's point of view when the head restraint is tightened and his vision goes red, properly disturbed me.

Also, as many of my fellow 90s kids will agree - Ghostwatch!

whynotwhatknot · 22/08/2021 17:52

Definitely Hilsbrough shocking to see what happened i do remember it though-the acting was tremendous

Also more recently little boy blue and 3 girls-haunting

Kanaloa · 22/08/2021 17:56

Also more recently little boy blue and 3 girls-haunting

The bit in three girls where the lady (Maggie?) is speaking to the social worker of the teen girl’s baby and they are both talking about protecting the welfare of ‘the child’ then a Maggie realises the social worker doesn’t care about the teenage girl, just the baby. Found that so touching.

Ludo19 · 22/08/2021 18:01

Danny Dyer Vendetta......what they did to his characters parents was horrifying

WTF0ver · 22/08/2021 18:21

@Quick99

Just read the synopsis for that *@WTF0ver* and wow did not expect that?!
It's an interesting well acted film but quite grim.
trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/08/2021 18:23

An episode of ER where 2 people were impaled on a pole (can't remember how they came to be impaled). They were told that the operation to free both would ultimately result in the death of one of them. The single woman telling the guy who was married with young kids that it had to be her that died not him made me weep for days.

I think that was Greys Anatomy - I crumble every time I watch that too!
BeaucoupFish · 22/08/2021 18:30

Agreed the rape scene in this is England is horrendous viewing. It Made me feel physically sick and what he was saying to her was awful.
The execution scene in Dead Man Walking is unforgettable to me. So difficult to watch

iklboo · 22/08/2021 18:41

The episode of ER with Ray Liotta is heartbreaking.

Audit · 22/08/2021 18:50

I saw Mrs Brown's Boys once because relatives were staying and did not wish to miss that evening's episode.

I still have nightmares about it.

smallgoon · 22/08/2021 18:54

The episode of ER where Dr Green dies was heartbreaking too.

Fleetw00d · 22/08/2021 19:25

The jail scene with Jamie and Jack Randall in Outlander. I can't watch it, couldn't even read it

SnoopyLights · 22/08/2021 19:32

Whoever mentioned Inside Number 9 - thank you!

I've just searched for and watched four of the episodes from season 2, starting with 12 Days of Christine.

That was really creepy and unsettling, but the Cold Comfort episode was equally unsettling. I'll definitely be watching every series now, I don't know how I've missed this before.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 22/08/2021 19:35

Oh you are in for a treat @SnoopyLights. There are six seasons on iPlayer and although they are a rewarding re-watch I envy you seeing them all for the first time. Enjoy!
