Stuck in Europe

My daughter got as far as the queue to get on the plane home from Europe. She was not allowed on the plane as her PCR negative test form was not acceptable. Single woman left at an airport. Single British woman with both vaccinations and a negative PCR test left at the airport. I’m transferring money to her for hotel tonight but what else can we do NOW.

What country is she in?

Fireants · 20/08/2021 23:58

Italy

I don't know that you need to do anything else now.
Your DD needs to find out what was unacceptable about her PCR paperwork and arrange for another test as soon as she can.

Pumpkintopf · 20/08/2021 23:59

Do you know what the issue was with her form? Does she need to arrange another test? Who refused her? Can you speak with the airline?

nimbuscloud · 21/08/2021 00:00

What age is she?

Fireants · 21/08/2021 00:01

It was in Italian when it should have been in English.

I don't mean to sound cruel but that unfortunately is a risk of traveling atm.

Embracelife · 21/08/2021 00:01

Not Kabul....

Italy is fine. Woman adult yes?
Hotel.
Lock room.sleep
Look at options in the morning
Such as getting the right form
If she got to Italy on her own
She can get back

Fireants · 21/08/2021 00:01

She’s 21

Dancingonmoonlight · 21/08/2021 00:02

She needs to get a PCR test from the airport and organise it in the morning so she can take the same flight tomorrow evening.
But don’t worry. It’s Italy not Afghanistan! And if she was there on her own, she will manage another night there on her own.

Embracelife · 21/08/2021 00:03

You cannot do anything now.
She needs to go to hotel.
Sort it out tomorrow
It s OK.
It s just a delay.
A costly one perhaps
But risk of any travelling

Fireants · 21/08/2021 00:04

She was staying with a family to look after children. Left them, got to the airport and stuck.

OP posts:
nimbuscloud · 21/08/2021 00:05

Did she leave in a hurry?

Velcropaws · 21/08/2021 00:06

Could you transfer money to her credit card?

Embracelife · 21/08/2021 00:06

She is 21.
Tell her and yourself gently to calm down sleep and get the right test tomorrow

Fireants · 21/08/2021 00:06

No, not in a hurry. Family took her for the PCR test.

OP posts:
Embracelife · 21/08/2021 00:07

Can she call the family tomorrow if it will take more than one day?
Otherwise just pay hotel til.she gets right test

54321nought · 21/08/2021 00:08

She must have known this could happen when she travelled.

She will be fine

Ridiculousradish · 21/08/2021 00:08

She's safe, not in danger. Am sure she'll be fine.. She needs to get some sleep, and then find out what she needs to do tomorrow.

Fireants · 21/08/2021 00:09

Thanks. Transferred money.

OP posts:
AdoraBell · 21/08/2021 00:12

Hope she gets home soon OP

Goofers · 21/08/2021 00:13

She’ll have a wonderful time tonight, a bonus night in Italy, how lovely!

Goofers · 21/08/2021 00:14

(Even more so if she’s single! Wink)

Scarby9 · 21/08/2021 00:25

I got stuck alone in Charles de Gaulle airport alone at 14 when a baggage handlers' strike stopped the flights after my penfriend's family had dropped me off and I had checked my luggage in.
No way to ring my parents who had already set off to collect me and I had no-one else's number with me (pre-mobiles).

I had a great night! I teamed up with a boy the same age and we got free food at the cafe, free magazines and made our own little area to sleep in. We also managed to meet our families in Heathrow, having somehow missed the baggage pick-up and customs and it caused a great fuss getting us back through again!
I have also, less excitingly, at the age of 22, like your daughter, been stopped from flying (in my case because our plane was running really late and the airport shut overnight). I asked for a recommended nearby hotel and went there for the night, returning as the airport reopened in the morning. It was fine.
Your DD is 21, presumably speaks at least functional Italian, and has been managing in the country recently. She will be fine.

Dancingonmoonlight · 21/08/2021 00:28

Your daughter has been responsible enough to look after going children.
She has money. She will be fine.
