Stuck in Europe

My daughter got as far as the queue to get on the plane home from Europe. She was not allowed on the plane as her PCR negative test form was not acceptable. Single woman left at an airport. Single British woman with both vaccinations and a negative PCR test left at the airport. I’m transferring money to her for hotel tonight but what else can we do NOW.

My Italian friend told me that this is a common problem.
She needs to pay an extra €4 or so to get the English translation (although the Italian version says negativo which is obviously negative)

She's just delayed for a bit. She's hardly likely to be at risk.

It is stated that the test certificate has to be written in the specified accepted languages and she just needs to book another test, check the certificate is in English and presumably rebook her flight. It's all tedious and inconvenient rather than dangerous.

I don’t understand what the issue with the PCR test being in Italian? It will say negativo instead of negative, hardly a challenge for even the most monoglot of border officials.

I’m interested as I might need to travel to the U.K. at the end of September and I would never have thought to request a translation of the PCR test.

Melassa · 21/08/2021 00:36

I see I cross posted and it has been clarified. Why is Italian not an accepted language? It’s hardly an obscure dialect.

backinthebox · 21/08/2021 00:45

It’s on the government website very clearly that the test must be in English, Spanish or french, no other language or translation is acceptable. She needs to get another test with results in English and rebook her flight. It’s a frustration, but no one else’s fault.

This lady has a right to be worried about her daughter and ask advice.

People are asking for advice over shagging husbands tonight with full sympathy.

Hope she is okay OP and next test is negative.

She’s home! Got an antigen test and English certificate!

Well done
A good challenge to deal with
She can learn from it
And know she is very capable

@Fireants

She’s home! Got an antigen test and English certificate!
good to hear! I didn't want to worry you at the time, but I couldn't help musing that it was perfectly possible for her next test to come back positive
AdoraBell · 22/08/2021 23:00

Glad to hear she is home OP

The rules are very clear on the government website. The negative test certificates must be in English French or Spanish. They will not accept any other language.

garlictwist · 23/08/2021 05:33

It's annoying but she's hardly in danger! She's in Italy and a fully grown woman. I am sure she will get it sorted.
